Rope loops around his neck, yanking Arthur backwards. Arthur’s legs thrash, hands clawing at his neck, head pounding and heart racing.
Just when Arthur worries he’s about to die, Charles appears, seeing the man strangle Arthur. He talks to the bounty hunter, ignoring the man’s offer of money to abandon Arthur. He calls Arthur his friend, and even whilst choking, Arthur’s stomach flutters.
And then a throwing knife strikes the man in the face.
And when he collapses, dead, Arthur splutters, pulling the rope away from his neck.
Charles saved his life.
And Arthur has never pined for him harder.
