Work Text:

The wedding had, of course, been beautiful. Two of the most beautiful people Lucius knew had gotten married at a gorgeous ski resort in Vermont, and the most gorgeous man Lucius knew had been standing across from him in an impeccable suit tailored to make him look absolutely stunning. Lucius could barely keep his eyes off Izzy long enough to hand Stede the ring when it came time; he wonders how much their friends in the audience picked up.

A lot, it turns out. Jim had given him the biggest shit-eating grin as they came through the receiving line, and Lucius knew it was only Oluwande’s “leave it” that kept them from saying what they really thought. Lucius had a feeling the silence wouldn’t last long,

And now he’s at the reception, which is stunningly gorgeous as well. And he still can’t keep his eyes off Izzy.

Lucius and Izzy had agreed after their parking lot romp in the sheets that they would keep it quiet, at least for the weekend. The absolute last thing they needed was Stede being upset that they’d upstaged him at his own wedding. But Lucius is concerned that he’s giving the game away even still.

“Spriggs.”

Lucius sighs. “Jim.”

“So. You and Izzy, huh?”

“Drop it, Jim.”

Jim raises their eyebrows in surprise. “Wait, is this a thing, Lucius?”

Lucius shrugs. “I don’t know,” he admits softly, and Jim makes a sympathetic noise in response.

“Aw, Lucius.”

“I know,” Lucius whines. “But you know how I’ve always felt about him. And…he said he’s felt the same? For just as long? And Jim, I want this,” he admits softly. “I just…I don’t know how to not blow it?”

Jim watches him carefully for a long moment. “Damn, hermano,” Jim says. “You’ve got it bad.”

“How do I not blow it, Jim?” Lucius whines.

Jim shrugs. “You know Izzy better than I do, dude. What do you think?”

“He’s like a wounded animal,” Lucius says softly. “I’m just…trying to be gentle and not overwhelm him, you know? Like…I know I can be a lot,” he admits.

“Lucius, we’ve talked about this.”

“But it’s not not true!” Lucius cries. “Especially for someone like Izzy, who’s so reserved and private, I’m just…I’m worried we’re too different.”

“Do you want to know what I think?”

“Not really, but you’re going to tell me anyway.”

“I think you should be talking to him about this and not me.”

“Yes, but I can’t, because we agreed to keep it lowkey this weekend. And anyway I wouldn’t even know where to start.”

“How about, “Izzy, I’ve been in love with you for ten years and I’d like to fuck your brains out”?”

“Yes, that won’t send him screaming into the countryside.” Lucius rolls his eyes.

Jim laughs, and Lucius glares at them. “Sorry, hermano,” Jim says, sounding truly sorry for once.

“Lucius!”

“Gotta go, duty calls.”

Lucius hurries over to where Stede and Ed are standing with Izzy.

“What’s up, boss?” Lucius asks Stede, determinedly not looking at Izzy.

“We’re going to do the first dance very soon,” Stede says. “So we’re finishing up at midnight.”

“Okay.”

Ed, Izzy and Lucius stand together while Stede runs around and tries to get everything sorted.

“Shouldn’t you be helping?” Ed asks Lucius.

“I don’t know what the fuck he’s doing,” Lucius says. “I think I’m safer here.”

He’s not, obviously, safer standing there, so close to Izzy he can feel the heat coming off his body. But at least he won’t run into Stede.

Finally Stede comes back to drag Ed onto the dance floor as the DJ announces that they’re going to start their first dance. Lucius unconsciously moves closer to Izzy.

“Izzy,” Lucius says softly.

“Lu.”

Lucius looks around. No one is looking at them, not even Jim.

“Come on.”

Lucius grabs Izzy’s hand and hurries out of the ballroom onto a balcony, dragging Izzy behind him.

“Lucius–”

Lucius doesn’t give Izzy any time to scold him, pulling Izzy to his chest and locking their lips together. Izzy sighs against Lucius’ mouth and sinks into his hold, wrapping his own arms around Lucius’ neck.

“God, I’ve been wanting to do that all day,” Lucius pants as he breaks the kiss and leans his forehead against Izzy’s. “The sight of you in that suit…Iz, you’re stunning.”

“You’re one to talk,” Izzy pants.

“Oh yeah?” Lucius asks cheekily.

“Don’t fish for compliments,” Izzy scolds lightly. “It doesn’t become you.”

“Oh, babe, it does though,” Lucius says, dropping his hands to Izzy’s hips and tugging them to his own. “You’re going to learn very quickly that I fish for compliments all the time.”

“Hm,” Izzy says, smirking. “You’re welcome to try.”

“Is that a challenge?” Lucius asks, his voice low as he leans in again to rub his nose against Izzy’s. “Because you know I can’t turn down a challenge.”

“Well it wasn’t, but I can see it’s turning into one,” Izzy teases.

“Iz…”

“Lu, don’t.”

“Izzy…”

Lucius is cut off by a loud voice from the ballroom shouting, “10! 9! 8!”

Lucius holds Izzy’s gaze, both of their eyes dark with lust, until they hear, “1! Happy New Year!”

“Happy New Year, darling,” Lucius whispers, and leans in to kiss Izzy deeply, making his own New Year’s resolution as midnight strikes: this year, he’s going to woo Izzy Hands.

Thanks as always to my Discord GCs for the encouragement and accountability sprints, and also to The Roommate for suggesting the storyline that spawned this AU, and to the demon possessing me and forcing me to continue to write more content in this universe. There's at least one more in this little mini-series about Ed and Stede's wedding weekend, and then...maybe a full fic? We'll see how long the mania lasts.
