Summary: In which the Weasley triplets were Sorted.
Three for Gryffindor
When Professor McGonagall left, whispers broke out. Elizabeth Weasley found herself biting her lip as she nervously glanced around. This was it. They were inside Hogwarts, and they would be Sorted in a matter of minutes.
“Do you know how the Sorting works?” asked Angelina Johnson, one of Elizabeth’s new friends from the train.
Alicia Spinnet shrugged. “Elizabeth?” she asked.
Elizabeth sighed, shaking her head. “My brothers were no help,” she muttered. “Bill said it was a challenge and Percy said it was a test.”
Both Alicia and Angelina frowned.
“I know they’re both wrong,” Elizabeth added, rolling her brown eyes. “Charlie kept laughing.” What was the use of three older brothers when they didn’t answer the important questions?
Angelina sighed, her shoulders sinking, and Alicia crossed her arms.
“What are you girls talking about?” Fred Weasley asked, appearing on his sister’s right side. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
“Whatever it is, it doesn’t look very interesting,” George Weasley commented from his sister’s left side. He wrapped an arm around waist.
Between her brothers, Elizabeth fought the urge to sigh as she leaned against her brothers. Fred and George did this whenever any of them got nervous. This was an occasion when all of them were nervous.
“Do you all think you’ll be in Gryffindor?” Lee Jordan, her brothers’ new friend asked.
“Yes,” Fred and George answered together.
“Our entire family’s been in Gryffindor for generations,” she added. Elizabeth wasn’t too certain. There was a chance one of them could be Sorted into a different House. What if it was her?
A moment later, Professor McGonagall returned. “We’re ready for you,” she announced.
Silence fell over the group of first years.
“Form two lines,” the professor ordered. “Quickly now.”
Elizabeth and Lee quickly took their places. Angelina and Alicia were ahead of them and Fred and George behind.
Once all the first years were two lines, Professor McGonagall nodded before she turned and led them into the Great Hall, walking to between the Hufflepuff table and the Ravenclaw table.
Glancing up at the ceiling, Elizabeth found it was as beautiful as her brothers told her. She turned her, looking over at the Gryffindor table. Her older brothers sat among them.
In front of the Staff Table, the group of first years crowded together. A hush fell over the hall as Professor McGonagall carried a three-legged stool and an old hat forward. When she placed the stool down and stepped back, the hat started moving and singing. Elizabeth was too stunned to notice the song. When the hat finished singing, everyone started to clap. She glanced around before clapping herself.
“When I call your name, come forward and the Sorting Hat will place you in your House,” the professor explained as she held up a roll of parchment. With a flick of her wrist, it unrolled. Looking at the list, she called out, “Addams, Maeve.”
A short girl with strawberry blonde hair stepped forward. She sat down on the stool and Professor McGonagall placed the Sorting Hat over her head. The Hat was too big and it fell over her face.
“Hufflepuff!” the Sorting Hat yelled a few seconds later.
The Hufflepuff table burst into applause.
Elizabeth stood in the crowd of first years as they were called up one by one.
Angelina was Sorted into Gryffindor with Lee following her. A little later they were joined by Alicia.
As Cassius Warrington was Sorted into Slytherin, Elizabeth stole a glance at the Gryffindor table. That was where she wanted to be.
“Weasley, Elizabeth,” called the professor.
Taking a deep breath, Elizabeth stepped forward and she made the short walk to the stool. She was grateful that the sleeves of her robes were long enough to cover her trembling hands. After she was seated, the Sorting Hat was placed on her head. Like most of the first years, it was too big and fell over her face. Despite the smell, she found there wasn’t much to complain about.
“Like you would smell very good after a few hundred years,” a voice whispered, making her jump.
Was that the Hat?
“Look at you,” the voice said. “You’re rather smart. Now, where to put you?”
Elizabeth smiled. She liked when others called her smart.
“You’re smart and you’re creative,” the Sorting Hat said, “but I don’t think you would make much of a Ravenclaw.”
That was no loss to her. She wanted Gryffindor, like the rest of her family.
“Another Weasley in Gryffindor, how predictable,” the Sorting Hat said, sounding tired. “Personally, I think you make an excellent Hufflepuff. You’re loyal and hardworking.”
Those were wonderful traits, but Elizabeth wanted Gryffindor. It was a family tradition, and she didn’t want to break that tradition.
“You’re only proving my point,” the Sorting Hat said. “You’re loyal to family traditions, like a Hufflepuff.”
“Gryffindor,” she whispered. “I want Gryffindor like my brothers.”
“What a bore,” the Sorting Hat said. “Just like the rest of your family in ,” he paused for a second before yelling, “Gryffindor!”
Elizabeth sighed as she removed the Sorting Hat and stood up before handing the Hat to Professor McGonagall.
The Gryffindor table was clapping.
She smiled at Fred and George as she walked over to the Gryffindor table. She was happy to be among them, and she smiled when her tie turned scarlet and gold.
Within a few minutes, she was joined by Fred and George.
