Ghosts and Vigilantes

Summary:

Scar would say he was pretty good at this whole vigilante thing, he had only been at it for, like, three months, and he hadn’t died yet! Though that was mostly thanks to Grian, Scar’s partner in, well, not crime, since they were fighting crime, but you get the idea.

Currently Scar was running around with his ghostly friend, Grian floating behind him, looking for crime to stop.

“Scar,” Grian said.

“So I was thinking about possibly getting a new sidekick, not that’d I want to replace you, just think I need someone who can actually watch my ba-“

“SCAR!” Grian yelled, and Scar turned to look at Grian, who was pointing in the direction of a villain, a very notable villain, that Grian probably wanted Scar to run from

Chapter Text

Moon, one of the two holders of the number one villain spot, meaning that the other one, Stars, was likely not far behind.

“…Are you talking to yourself?” The villain asked.

“Nope! I’m talking to my invisible friend that no one else can see… or hear for that matter,” Scar replied.

“Scar…” Grian groaned, his head in his hands.

“Uh-huh,” Moon hummed, one hundred percent not believing Scar.

“Moon! The heroes are here, we gotta go!” Stars yelled, running by, shooting a blast of light in the direction of the aforementioned heroes, temporarily blinding the duo of heroes, who Scar recognized as Void and Zombie.

Moon nodded, running off, but not before shooting a concerned glance at Scar.

Scar looked at the heroes who were running after the villainous duo, then at Void and Zombie, before joining the chase, and pulling out his bow.

“Scar, this is a horrible idea,” Grian groaned, “those are the number one villains, you’re going to get yourself killed.”

“I haven’t gotten myself killed yet!” Scar declared, shooting an arrow at Star’s leg, sending her tumbling to the ground, suddenly, a portal opened up, and Void stepped through, but it was too late, as Moon shrouded the area in darkness, and a few minutes after it had cleared Moon and Stars had vanished.

“Nice shot, Vigilante,” Void said, “we got fairly close to capturing them this time.”

“Hold on,” Zombie said, “there’s something off here.”

“We gotta go!” Grian yelled, “I knew this was a horrible idea,” Grian said, as Zombie was looking right at him.

“Zombie, what’s…?” Void trailed off, likely realizing he was the only one out of the loop.

Cleo was, concerned, to say the least, ancient ghosts didn’t just hang around random vigilantes. And how did Cleo know the ghost was ancient? Well, other than the overbearing presence of magic, the ghost had wings. Avians had been extinct for centuries.

So why was one following around a vigilante?

“SC-“ the ghost looked at Cleo, cutting himself off, likely to protect the vigilante’s identity, “HOTGUY WE GOTTA GO!” The ghost yelled, as if the Vigilante, Hotguy, apparently (What kind of name is Hotguy?) could hear the ghost.

“Well! I better go, you know, gotta stuff to do, y’know?” Hotguy said, running off into the distance.

“Zombie, what just happened?” Xisuma asked, taking a step forward.

“That Vigilante, he had a ghost following him, a ghost of an avian,” Cleo replied, turning to Xisuma.

“What!? Why?”

“Not sure, but I think part of the reason was that he could talk to the ghost, unless its a coincidence that he left seconds after the ghost said they needed to leave, though, the ghost did say that a few times before the vigilante listened,” Cleo said.

“Do we have a name for this vigilante?”

Cleo nodded, “Hotguy.”

“You’re joking.”

“I wish I was.”

And the two made their way back to the hero tower, deciding to look into the vigilante known as Hotguy.

Grian was an old ghost, old enough that he didn’t remember much about what his life was like before death, other than the fact it was short and terrible. He knew that he had been a part of one of the last avian tribes that was killed and hunted down for their wings. He knew that after he died he had been unceremoniously dumped into a mass grave.

Grian still blamed humanity for his death, if he hadn’t been murdered he wouldn’t be a ghost now, forever cursed to look for his kind, a kind long dead. Grian would never admit it, but he was jealous of other hybrids. He was jealous that they got a shot at life that Grian never got. He didn't blame them, of course he wouldn’t! They had nothing to do with the avian genocide, it was the human’s fault.

Though Grian knew he couldn’t be mad at the modern human’s, they had nothing to do with the loss of his people, and they had made a change for the better, no longer hunting down those who were different, but Grian would be lying if he said he didn’t feel hurt at their past actions.

But at least now, after centuries of drifting around, alone, just searching for fellow avians he had met Scar, a cat hybrid with the ability to talk to ghosts.

Grian and Scar had made it back to their apartment without much issue, thankfully the heroes, Void and Zombie hadn’t followed them.

“Why don’t you ever listen to me?” Grian asked, though he knew the answer, they had this conversation every night.

“Because where’s the fun in playing it safe?” Scar replied easily, as he always do.

“You’re gonna get yourself killed,” Grian groaned.

“That’d be horrible! I’d be stuck with you forever!” Scar said, though there was no bite to his words, Grian knew Scar wouldn’t mind spending eternity with him, but Grian knew Scar would hate being a ghost, so Grian tries his best to keep the cat hybrid safe.

“Jellie!” Scar smiled as the cat appeared from behind him, rubbing against his leg and purring, “Sorry I was gone for so long!” Grian smiled at the scene of Scar playing with his cat. Grian sat down in his chair, well more like he floated in a way that made it look like he was sitting in it, as Grian could phase right through it.

“Goodnight Grian!” Scar said, walking to his room, Jellie followed close behind, leaving Grian to his own devices, which meant staring at a wall for the next eight hours until Scar woke up the next morning.
