Chapter 1: Meeting with the fam

Chapter Text

It was Thanksgiving again. Relatives all over the world took this time to congregate and bond, before returning to the humdrum of life once more. Daniel's family was no different, gathering at an old, dilapidated house in the outskirts of their hometown.

"One whole year and you guys are still lards. Wah, it must really be our family's genes huh?" David's father took another swig of beer before placing it back on the dusty wooden floorboards.

The house was no different from last year either, with stray leaves scattered around and cobwebs straddling the corners of walls. Muffled noises of gunshots strayed out from Dylan's phone as he furiously tapped on the screen, playing BUBG. Sarah was leaning on one of the walls, texting her friends about the mind numbingly boring gathering she was in. David was smiling dopily at his phone, pudgy fingers flying over its keyboard.

"Youngsters these days, always on their phones, no wonder they can't lose weight." David's father complained, one leg cocked up with his foot on the floor.

"Well, my David is texting his girlfriend, she's such a nice girl, you know?" David's mother boasted to Dylan's and Sarah's parents. She proudly pat David's meaty shoulder as he continued to text.

Dylan and Sarah's mother looked at the clock. "Aiyo, where is Daniel and his mother anyway? They are both so late alread-"

A loud thud interrupted her. Everyone turned to stare at the source of the loud noise, who rubbed his head apologetically.

"Hehe, sorry we're late, the train got held up for a while." Everyone's jaw drops as they looked at a tall, handsome and well-dressed stranger clad in branded streetwear. His long fringe brushed against his eyebrows, framing his vaguely familiar features and his angular jaw. Too stunned to speak, they looked at the stranger, then Daniel's mother, then the stranger again. A loud clatter interjected once more, as Sarah's phone drops on the floor, cutting through the silence.

"Sorry, the ceiling is a bit low", the stranger explains, an embarrassed look on his face.

"No way! Daniel? No freaking way! Dude!" Dylan shouted excitedly, taking off his goggles to look at his cousin more clearly.

"You're even taller than me." David noted, somewhat begrudgingly. Sarah hastily picked up her phone, discreetly snapping a picture and sending it to her friends.

YOO my cuz just got the biggest glow up ever?? He doesn't even look like the same person?

The reply came immediately.

BESTIE ❤️❤️: omg he's so cute look at his little face ahhh intro me to him

Suddenly, Grandma shuffles into the room.

"Ah, hello my son, you look too skinny, want some almonds?" Everyone gapes again at how quickly the old matron recognised her grandson, especially with her forgetfulness.

---------------------------------------------------

Everyone started to settle down. As drinks were poured, conversations began to flow.

"Nice fit. But why did you bring such expensive clothes? Actually, how did you even get them?" David asked, dragging his fingers along the soft, thick and sturdy material of Daniel's tan B@lmian coat with a touch of envy.

"Oh, they're my roommate's clothes. After I lost so much weight, none of my clothes would fit me anymore so he lends me his." Daniel explained.

"Woah, your roommate must be loaded, who is he?" The whole room started filling with chatter, pestering Daniel to tell them who he was. He quickly said that they share the same name, and that the clothes were gifts. He pulled out his phone, pointing at the back of it to the picture of his second body with his friends in Notte World.

"That's Daniel Park the Pacebook star! He's your roommate?" Sarah uncharacteristically spoke up, disbelieving. She couldn't believe that her lame cousin was roommates with the Daniel Park.

"My goodness, what modelling agency is this?" Dylan and Sarah's mother stared at the picture, astonished at the sheer amount of attractiveness radiating from the high schoolers.

"Oh, haha, that's just our classmates." Daniel responds. He understood why she would say that though, his classmates really were quite attractive, especially-

"Why aren't you in the picture?" David's father narrowed his eyes at Daniel,
suspicious that a group of people like that would be friends with his nephew. Daniel started sweating so he took off his coat, revealing well-built arms and shoulders clad in a form-fitting black turtleneck in an attempt to cool down. This unintentionally intimidated David's father, who suddenly felt an urge to lower his eyes from Daniel's.

"Oh, um, I was sick, so I couldn't go."
David's father cleared his throat, "Anyway, what's your roommate doing on the back of your phone and lending you his expensive clothes? Y'all dating or something?" He sneered, trying to reestablish dominance with a jab to his nephew's sexuality. Daniel was internally screaming, how could he date himself? He never thought this would be possible, this was such a novel situation that he didn't know how to respond. Seeing the nervous look on Daniel's face, Dylan mistook it for admitting that he was indeed dating his second body.

"Don't worry dude, it's fine if you are, we support you!" Dylan embraced him quickly. He flushed, embarrassed at the situation he got himself into. He hastily explained that they were just really good friends. However, everyone's face displayed their skepticism. He hoped that they wouldn't bring this up again but knowing them, this was in vain.

After a period of eating, chatting and catching up, the adults decided to send the cousins off into the town to "bond", this time with Sarah in tow.
