Normally if Lorcan Scamander was given the choice he wouldn't choose to spend a seven hour train ride with his twin, Lysander. But, this year was different. Lorcan didn't have any friends to sit with for various reasons, and Lysander didn't have any friends period since the start of the year.

Lysander used to be pretty popular. Handsome, smart, funny, charming, etc. But, when xe showed up on the first day of sixth year wearing a dress and saying xe was genderqueer, people became less kind.

Lorcan definitely didn't want Lysander to be alone, so he had offered up a seat in his compartment, which Lysander had gratefully accepted.

Lorcan looked over at his younger twin. Lysander had a sketchbook out and was drawing with colored pencils. Lorcan himself had mostly just been sitting there, doing nothing, for the past hour or so.

Six hours and forty-nine minutes.

They had six hours and forty-nine minutes until they would arrive at Kings Cross station, and would be able to go home.

Lorcan sighed.

He had always hated the train rides. If Lorcan got to choose what he was doing it would be playing quidditch, being in charms class, or dueling. Not stuck in a what amounted to a box for several hours....Four times a year....For seven years.

That was 196 hours total!

Lorcan looked out the window to see it had started snowing again, a little rain mixed in. Lorcan didn't like snow much because it was so cold, but Lysander loved it. Normally, Lorcan would point the snow out to the other, but he knew that if he interrupted Lysander's drawing right now, xe would never be able to get back into.

So, instead, Lorcan pulled out a book on ancient jinx. He had read it about two dozen times already, after having gotten it a year prior. Lorcan typically didn't read much, by charms and jinx's were some of his favorite things, so any books about them was an exception to the rule.

Lysander loved reading, but not about charms or jinx. Xe was more into graphic novels, magazines, and comics. Definitely nothing education based.

Lorcan looked at Lysander for the fourth or so time during the train ride. The ride had actually just ended, and the shorter teen was packing up loose things into xir trunk. Lorcan had already put all of his things away, so was just standing semi-awkwardly, waiting for his sibling.

As the two left the train they found that they were being picked up exclusively by their mom this year. She asked how they were doing and Lysander told her "Spectacularly."

Lorcan knew that was a lie. He had heard the words some kids had called Lysander. He had been there to comfort his twin that xe wasn't broken or disgusting for being trans. He had been called many names himself, and had been asked inappropriate questions because of him and Lysander being twins. He had rumors spread about him, that he was also trans, or queer in some way. He had had to question all of his friends, and make sure they weren't against his sibling.

Lorcan knew the true hell that Lysander had been through the past three-and-a-half months. But, he didn't tell Luna. Because Lysander didn't want her to know, he didn't want to upset xem.

Everything would be fine, anyway. Right?

Right.

It had to be, for Lysander.
