Chapter Text
“Luz, wait!”
”It’s not my fault you’re so slow!”
Amity chased after her best friend Luz, holding onto her skirt to run better. Amity grabbed Luz, and the two tumbled down the cliff together giggling.
“Hey! That’s not fair!” Luz spluttered pushing Amity.
”Who’s slow now?” Amity smirked. Luz pouted, then laughed. The two girls laughed together laying down on the soft grass.
Luz had always been pressured by the expectations of a “princess.” However, since Luz was still only eight, her mother still allowed Luz to have a childhood. And so, Luz would play with Amity, running through the forest, splashing in the river, dancing in the rain.
Luz and Amity had met accidentally. One day, Luz had been climbing in a tree, then a green-haired girl sat under the tree reading a book. Luz watched Amity read her book for a way, smitten by her pretty appearance, until Luz lost her balance and fell down, scaring Amity. Amity looked at Luz for a while, before having a massive fit of laughter. Luz laughed along with the pretty girl. The two introduced themself and soon met up at that tree every day, becoming best friends.
”Luz!”
“Ugh, I have to go now.” Luz pouted. “It’s dinner time.”
”That’s okay. It’s dinner time for me too.” Amity assured.
”See you tomorrow?”
”See you tomorrow.”
The two girls parted ways, Luz was brought home by her governess Lilith, and Amity was brought home by her older sister Emira.
What Luz and Amity didn’t know was that they wouldn’t see each other again for nearly ten years.
The next day, Amity’s father Alador was killed in a tragic carriage crash. Amity didn’t have time to meet up with Luz anymore, and wanted to tell her why so bad. But she couldn’t.
After Aladors funeral, Amity and her family moved to a mansion in the town. Amity tried to protest against this as hard as she could, since she would be pulled away from Luz. But Odalia wouldn’t listen.
“I’m doing this for your own good Mittens. You’ll thank me one day.”
When Amity was sixteen, Odalia had fired the household staff to save money, and gave all of the chores to Amity.
Amity hoped that her older siblings Edric and Emira who were twins would stand up for her. But they didn’t. They watched as Amity suffered and mocked her.
As for Luz, Luz wondered why Amity had left so suddenly. She continued to follow her mother and brother around, and often took care of her little sister.
As the years went on, Luz began to forget some things about Amity. In fact, she had forgotten her name. Sometimes however, Luz would have dreams about a green-haired girl, dancing with her in the rain and running through the fields with her.
By the time they were both eighteen, they were still separated. Of course Amity still remembered Luz, and had heard much about her. Amity still dreamed about Luz, dancing and running with her again.
She wondered if Luz felt the same way.
And Luz did.
