Work Text:

Wei Wuxian hisses and flinches away as Wen Qing dabs the salve along the angry red line where she'd neatly stitched his side back together. There was a time his core could've healed it in a few days, but now, weeks later, it's hot and itchy and "... it hurts, Wen Qing! Be gentle!" She glares at him and continues her ministrations.

"Of course it hurts. You've been stabbed, and you keep treating your body like you still have a core to heal it. Your side hurts, your wrist hurts, your head hurts when you drink too much, I'm sure your back must hurt—is there even anywhere on you that doesn't hurt?"

A question he tries not to think about and hates that she's making him confront. "Here!" he shouts, pointing at a spot in the hollow of his cheek that doesn't ache like the rest of him. Mostly.

When she looks up her eyes go soft and full of something complicated at whatever she sees on his face. She leans forward and places a gentle kiss on his cheek, just above his fingertip. "You have to take better care of yourself, Wei Wuxian," she whispers, and that hurts too.
