When Life Gives You Pick-Up Lines...

Summary:

They don't know when did this started, but one day it did.
And it stuck with them ever since.
It became their private little game.

Or: A fic where Matt and Jen's love language are pick-up lines. Part 10 of my Courtship series, but it can be read as a stand-alone.

Notes:

I saw a cute tiktok and decided that pick-up lines would be up Matt and Jen's alley. Enjoy :)

Work Text:

They don't know when did this started, but one day it did.

And it stuck with them ever since.

It became their private little game.

Matt stood behind the kitchen counter, knife in hand, precisely cutting vegetables on the cutting board in front of him as soft hum of Jen's voice traveled to him from the table, at which she was sitting at, picking different ingredients to put on their sandwiches.

"You know what I think?" he cut the silence between them.

"What?" she asked curious, always eager to know with what his brilliant mind came up.

"I think" he dropped the knife and picked the cutting board to take it to the table "that if you were a vegetable," he sat next to her and picked one thing from the board "you would be a cute-cumber." he smiled to her as he placed a slice of cucumber on her lips.

This stunned Jen for a second, not sure what to do with that information, chewing on the vegetable. As she swallowed, she came up with the response.

"If you wanted more cheese with your sandwich, you only needed to ask. There was no need to embarrass yourself like that." she giggled as he tickled her in revenge.

"Hey, Matt!" she yelled to him from the other side of the apartment.

"What?"

"Can you hear it?" she asked, her voice filled with dread.

"What?" he repeated, making his way to her. His long legs took him to her and he rested his hand on her elbow, worried.

"You don't hear it?" she tried so hard to not laugh, to take her acting job seriously, but his expressive face was not helping her in her task.

They stood in silence for a moment, Jen intentionally not breathing. When she saw frustration on his face at not understanding what's going on, she told him.

"I hope you know CPR, because you just took my breath away!"

She burst out laughing as Matt realized this whole situation was only a set up for a pick up line. But she had to follow it up.

"So, aside from taking my breath away, what do you do tonight?" she wiggled her brows in mirth as he rolled his eyes at her.

"Do you happen to have a Band-Aid? ‘Cause I scraped my knees falling for you." Matt tried to defuse the tension that arose in the air the moment Jen saw blood spilling from his mouth, his steps slow and careful, one hand hovering protectively over his ribs.

She only sighed and went for the first aid kit.

Matt threw the towel he used to dry his hair up after his shower on his armchair, his steps taking him to his bedroom. He stopped in the threshold, taking all the smells in. Dust, detergent and warm skin with a note of apples.

"You know what you would look really beautiful in?" he heard her voice coming from the bed. He hoped she wouldn't say flannel shirt, because as much as he appropriated the gift, it was kind of itchy on his skin. He preferred softer materials, like the t-shirt he just put on.

"What?" he made his way to her side, getting under the covers.

"My arms" she answered softly and made space for him, so he could comfortably lay down, her arms around him, her hands playing with his wet hair.

"You're right" he agreed with her, drifting into the dreamland.

"I'm always right" she murmured, kissing him on the top of his head.

Soft touches on Jen's body woke her up, warm feeling spreading through her. She opened her eyes in hope to see Matt's gorgeous face as a first thing in the morning, but her gaze landed on grey sheets that covered big lump somewhere around her stomach. When she felt trail of kisses there, going further south, she lifted the covers.

Matt's face came up in all their morning glory. Disheveled hair, 5 o'clock stubble and half-lidded eyes. Picture of sexiness.

"You’re like a fine wine. The more of you I drink in, the better I feel." he said in his gruff voice and dove right between her thighs.

Jen didn't mind mornings like that. Not. At. All.

Jen made herself comfortable at the edge of the ring, her eyes following Matt's every move. With fascination she followed the path of sweat droplets going down his naked chest as he worked on his cardio with skipping rope. In her opinion he didn't need that much cardio, she made sure they both got enough exercise in that department, but she wouldn't stop him know, no, the show in front of her was too good to skip on.

Unfortunately for her, he stopped, dropping the rope on the bench next to him and got closer to her.

The way he looked was so distracting to her that a pick up line slipped her tongue "If being sexy was a crime, you’d be guilty as charged."

He chuckled at that "Stop trying to distract me, we are sparing." he got to the center of the ring, waiting for her.

"I wasn't try..." she stammered her explanation. He smiled cockily at her and she had no other choice but to kick his ass for that.

"Stop tickling me!" Jen screeched, trashing in Matt's arms, his bed creaking under them.

"Why? It's so much fun finding new places in which you're ticklish" he countered with new assault on her sides.

"No, it's not" she giggled "Maybe we should switch places and tickle you instead?"

"Okay, okay! I'll stop" Matt resigned from tickling to appease her, but his hands didn't leave her body, caressing her body, touching soft skin. They made their way up, to her face, feeling the difference in it as she smiled at him.

"You’ve got a lot of beautiful curves," one of his hands briefly left her face to touch her hip, to accentuate his point "but your smile is absolutely my favorite." he whispered to her, both hands back on her face, enjoying her smile under his palms.

"Hey" she whispered to him, their faces close to each others, her hands on his wrists, not letting him leave her face. "I need to thank you for this gift" her palm slid to his, her thumb directing his to her lips "I’ve been wearing this smile ever since you gave it to me." her voice was tender and sincere. He kissed her at that, his chest filling in with warmth.

They might be corny and cheesy with all that pick-up lines, but they both loved it and didn't mean to stop any time soon.
