I'll never love a boy, the way I love the ocean

Summary:

She knows she should get up. She has potion orders and land maintenance to take care of but she just can’t bring herself to.

After everything she just feels heavy. Like there is an emotional weight so heavy on her it almost feels physical. It feels like if she were to get up or move too much she would throw up. So the witch stayed in her bed where she felt safe and comfortable. Or as comfortable as she can be.

...or the after math of what happened last time

Chapter 1: Gay panic is a bitch

Chapter Text

Shelby hasn’t moved in the last few hours. The only thing she’s done is stare blankly up at the ceiling and occasionally pet her toad.

Truth be told her back aches from staying in the same position for too long. Her stomach and head hurts because she’s neglected to eat or drink anything in the past few hours. But the cherry on top is that she had spent an entire week sleeping and now her body doesn’t want to do that anymore but her limbs are also too weak to do anything physically laboring.

It has only been a day since everything has happened and the witch still remains in shock. Shelby can’t process any of this enough to do anything. The last time she tried to boil some water and her weak arms were struggling to lift the pot and then her mind drifted to what happened and half her body ended up getting burned.

Shelby has never been more grateful that healing potions exist.

The first thing that makes her feel like her head is spinning too fast to catch up with is what everyone looked liked. Every person that she interacted with looked exactly like the statue from Pix’s museum.

For example Katherine. She wore the same off the shoulder dress with the same beautiful hairstyle. Scott looked the same as well. There was a statue with antlers and heavy looking armor that was beyond what Shelby could process. Anything even slightly expensive looking bewilders Shelby. But it was the same thing that Scott was wearing in her vision thing (Shelby honestly doesn’t know what to call it).

So could that mean what Shelby is seeing is real? It would make sense. And if it were real that would mean she would be having something along the lines of visions. But why? How does everyone of those ancient rulers look like her friends? The witch couldn’t wrap her head around it.

She also couldn’t think clearly. Shelby tried to focus on the more pressing matters but everytime she thought about what she saw her mind went back to…

She tasted like strawberries.

Her lips were soft.

Shelby felt her face burn and she shoved a pillow in front of her face and screamed into it. It felt like her brain was actively working against her. It’s like her brain doesn’t want her to figure out what was going on.

The witch lowered her pillow when she felt a slight dip in her bed. Todie jumped onto it. She didn’t think it was possible but her toad was judging her. “I know, I know I’m hopeless.” Shelby sighed. “But can you blame me? We were a couple. A couple! We held hands and kissed and hugged! How crazy is that?!”

Todie didn’t respond. Instead he just stared blankly at her. Shelby huffed, “What a big help you are.” again he didn’t respond instantly making her feel bad. “Oh I'm sorry you know I didn’t mean it.”

She hugged the pillow a bit tighter as her thoughts drifted back to Katherine again. They had kissed. Plural, as in more than once. They said I love you. They had cuddled. They did all things a couple did and it made her feel giddy inside.

No matter how hard she tried she couldn’t stop picturing it (not that she's trying too hard) it was a dream come true.

Or- sort of.

The witch always thought being with Katherine was a far away fantasy. Nothing that she could ever achieve.

Shelby sighed as she leaned back into her bed. She felt kind of silly freaking out over Katherine like she was a thirteen old girl again. She wasn’t. She is a full grown woman, an amazing witch and an outstanding member of society. Not someone who should be freaking out over small insignificant things.

She hadn’t felt this way since Nova Greenich. She remembered being fifteen staying up late in the library sorting books because she got in trouble for turning a girl's hair into leaves. No one but Shelby was supposed to be in the library. Except there was this pretty girl she saw trying to sneak a book out and Shelby caught her.

Both of them were trouble makers so Shelby didn’t say anything to anyone. Because of that they struck up a friendship. Although it quickly turned into something more. The witch remembered the amount of times she would come home screaming and squealing to her grandma. She would constantly replay every little touch or word or look or whatever had happened in her head over and over again until her face was beat red and her heart was racing.

Of course it all fell down the drain when she failed her end of year exam and Nova decided she was too good for a lowly witch like Shelby. Which isn’t the point.

Her point is she hasn’t felt this way in a while. Like years. She had given up on love thinking she could never achieve it.

So how does she even approach any of this?

Normally it’s just her analyzing every interaction. Freaking out about the littlest thing. Pretending the littlest thing means more than it did.

Rinse and repeat until the excitement of her crush slowly faded away and Shelby could get back to normal.

But she can’t do that now. Shelby literally saw them as a couple. Did she know what exactly she saw? No. Did she know if it’s actually real? Also no. However she has to stay optimistic.

She has to believe what she saw is real. Because if she starts believing that it isn’t then she might actually go insane.

A knock at the door startled Shelby out of her thinking.

“Who could be at the door?” Shelby mused out loud as she turned towards her window. It was nearly dark out. No one and Shelby meant no one would come into the Evermore at this time. People didn't want to come during the day much less at night.

But then the soft knock turned into rapid knocking prompting Shelby to climb out of bed. She rubbed her tired eyes and slowly made her way down stairs.

Soon enough she stopped when the rapid knocking turned to pounding on the door. “Shelby open the door, I can see the lights on!” A voice screamed through the heavy wooden door.

A soft gasp left Shelby as she recognized the voice. Quickly she wrenched the door open, “Katherine?” Shelby asked, ducking to not get hit with Katherines swinging fist. “What are you doing here?”

“Oh god, you’re okay.” Katherine huffed out nearly tripping from being off balanced.

“Uh yeah of course I am?” Shelby framed it as a question as she moved to the side to let the princess in. “Are… you okay?”

As soon as Katherine walked through the threshold Shelby could get a good look at her. And it wasn’t pretty to say the least.

Her normally perfect hair was disheveled and messy. It had knots in it and part of it was tied up but had loose pieces falling out like all of it had been tied up but slowly got more and more messy. Her clothes looked slightly torn and dirty which was a stark difference to how she usually looked. She always looked like she had everything in order and like she never touched dirt.

Of course Shelby knew that wasn’t true but she couldn’t help but think that everytime Katherine is in her presence. But another striking difference is how tired she looked. She had heavy bags under her eyes and her body saged like she hadn't relaxed in a long time.

“Katherine are you-” Shelby was quickly cut off by the princesses body colliding with hers. Strong arms wrapped tightly around Shelby, constricting her arms and body from moving. Katherine easily lifted her off the ground prompting Shelby to wrap her legs around Katherine.

Her face heated up and she gulped loudly. “Uh- Katherine?” The witch could only hope Katherine wouldn’t notice her rapid heart beat.

Katherine froze seemingly realizing what she was doing and promptly dropped the shorter woman. She cleared her throat and gave a sheepish smile. “Sorry. I was just so worried.”

“About what?” Her heart beat loudly that now she could only hope Katherien couldn’t hear it.

Katherine’s lips pulled into a frown and she studied the shorter woman for a moment. “You’ve been gone for a week.” The princess sighed, pulling her hand out to stop Shelby from saying anything. “Don’t try and weasel your way out of this. I have been all over every empire looking for you. You weren’t anywhere. Do you have any idea how worried we’ve all been? I went to talk to Joey, Joey, to see if he knew your whereabouts.”

“People have been worried?” Shelby questioned. She remembered back in school she would go missing for weeks and no one would notice. Not even her teachers.

Katherine narrowed her and grabbed Shelbys shoulders to shake them. “Of course people have been worried! You went missing for a whole week!”

Despite her loving the contact from Katherine she gently lowered the other girl's hands so her brain would remain intact. “Uh- well you don’t need to worry I’m back home. Safe and sound. So you should probably just go now.” Shelby said, attempting to sway her into leaving. She hoped Katherine wouldn’t notice her deflecting.

Katherine is a lot stronger than the witch though so she easily stood her ground. “Where were you?”

Anxiety swirled through her stomach. Making her shrug and not make eye contact with the other girl. Shelby can’t let Katherine in on what has been going on. Especially about-

“I love you.”

“I love you.”

Snapping brought her out of momentary distraction. When she refocused Katherine was again staring at her intensely except this time worry overshadowed most of it.

“Your face is red.” Katherine pointed out, already walking over to where her chairs in the kitchen resided. “Sit down, you don’t look so well.”

“Katherine I’m fine really.” Shelby said in an attempt to derail the other woman's plans.

“Please.” Katherine pleaded, giving her a look that Shelby absolutely could not ignore.

It was pathetic really. It was just one word and the witch was folding. So with a long drawn out sigh she dragged her feet over and sat down.

“Where have you been?” Katherine asked yet again. Except this time her voice was quiet and exhausted. All the fight in her had seemingly been lost. The witch couldn’t help but wonder how long it’s been since she last slept. “I need to know. I didn’t search the continent looking for you for no reason.”

Shelby looked down at her hands. “I was in Pix’s museum.”

Katherines previously lowered head snapped up and she looked absolutely scandalized. “Shelby this isn’t a joke-”

“I’m not joking.” Shelby rubbed her eyes. How late is it? Shelby wondered. She didn’t have anything better to do but she would prefer it if she wasn’t having this conversation right now.

“So you mean to tell me that while I’ve been traveling long and far, nearly losing my sanity, you've been in a museum. For a whole week?” Katherine was pulling at her hair slightly. That was something she always does whenever she’s stressed. Shelby felt compelled to move Katherines hand but she knew it wasn’t her place to do so.

“Not exactly- well I mean I was there but I wasn’t really there y’know? Like mentally-” She promptly cut herself off upon seeing Katherine’s severely confused face. “I can explain. But you won’t believe me.”

“Try me.” Katherine challenged. She looked like she really meant that which Shelby thought was stupid. How does she even begin to explain what she experienced? And how can she get Katherine to believe her? That’s the problem. She can’t. The witch doesn’t even know if she believes herself. It all sounds so outlandish.

“Alright.” Shelby swallowed thickly. “I don’t know where to begin.”

“The beginning is a good place.” Katherine joked prompting a smile out of Shelby.

Shelby sighed and began. She started with her visions. About how confused she’s been about all of it. Then about how she went to Pix’s museum (Although she left out the part about the signs) and discovered the statues. Finally she talked about what she saw for an entire week. Of course she didn’t go into heavy detail. Katherine can’t know about them being a couple. That would just make her feel uncomfortable and then she would never want to talk to Shelby again.

Throughout the whole thing Katherine remained silent. Her face stayed blank making it super hard to read. Shelby had no clue what she was thinking. That made her worry more than what she wanted to admit. She knew that what she was saying didn’t sound like stuff from the mind of a sane, healthy person. But Kathrine had to believe her. The witch didn’t know what she would do if Katherine didn’t believe her.

“Katherine?” Shelby asked cautiously. She’s never done well with silence and this is really testing her right now.

“I need to sleep on it.” Katherine decided. “Do you mind if I use your couch?”

Shelby couldn’t help the disappointment that formed in her stomach. “Yeah sure. Let me go grab some blankets.” She felt a bit dead on her feet as she walked towards a cupboard containing blankets. One thing that she learned from the academy is that if anyone ever says they need to think on it that means they are just thinking about how to let you down easily.

When Shelby entered the living room Katherine was sitting down, seeming to be in compilation. She inhaled and forced a smile on her face. “Here you go, let me know if you need anything else.”

She turned around and tried to climb back upstairs and Katherines voice stopped her. “Shelby, wait.” she didn’t continue till the witch turned around. “You promise you’re not lying to me?”

“Do you think I would have a reason to do so?” Shelby asked, leaning against her ladder.

Katherine shook her head and gave a small smile that made Shelbys heart beat faster. “Thank you for trusting me.”

“Of course.” Shelby yawned, it was definitely time for bed. “You’re one of my best friends.”

With that she dragged herself upstairs and to the sweet lullaby of sleep.

The next morning Shelby got up early and started working on breakfast. She was way too nervous about whatever Katherine was going to say to her. So to compensate she starts cooking. As long as her hands and brain are occupied then she can’t focus on anything else.

She started by baking some bread and then going outside to collect eggs. She grabbed some bacon and started frying. She wasn’t sure what the princess would like but eggs and bacon are generic and you really can’t go wrong with them. Hopefully Katherine will like them.

But of course her mind did eventually start drifting.

What if Katherine thinks she’s crazy and doesn’t want to be friends with Shelby anymore? The witch can live with Katherine not wanting to be romantically involved with her. However if the princess cuts her out of her life completely Shelby will fall apart.

Although another thought crossed her mind. What if Katherine tells the other empires and they decide to kick her out? Where would she go? She can’t go back to the academy. They would take away her magic and send her to witch prison. She can’t go back to her grandma. It would be incredibly selfish to put her granny in danger.

She would have nowhere to go. The witch would be alone. Like more alone than she ever thought was possible. Shelby supposes that fits. That she was always destined to be alone, an outcast-

“Shelby?” Katherine asked, making the witch jump and nearly drop her pan. Katherine giggled and covered her mouth trying to seem like she wasn't laughing at Shelby's misfortune, “Are you okay?”

“Yes, I’m good.” Shelby squeaked, clearing her throat and moving away from the hot pan. She could not deal with another physical injury. “Do you need something?”

Katherine smiled and ran a hand through her rough hair. “Do you mind if I take a shower? I really need it.”

“Go head, it’s right over there.” Shelby smiled before something else dawned on her. “Oh wait, do you need any clothes?”

Katherine’s face went slightly pink before she nodded. “Can I borrow some? I promise I’ll return them as soon as I can. It’s just that my clothes are uh kind of dirty.”

Shelby swallowed and refocused on the food. “Don’t worry about it, I'm happy to help.”

“Thank you.”

Shelby didn’t say anything, simply giving her a thumbs up. It was a few more minutes before the witch was confident the eggs were ready so she could leave. She quickly headed upstairs and grabbed her biggest clothes and left them by the door for Katherine to pick up.

It wasn’t too long before Katherine walked out in Shelbys clothes. They were too small on her. The sweater only went down to her forearm and the sweats went above her ankle. Shelby snorted, trying to contain her laughter.

Luckily Katherine didn’t seem to notice as she walked over and sat at the table. “I didn’t know you could cook.”

Shelby shrugged and sat down. “Not really eggs are the only thing I can’t burn and make a mess of.”

The princesses' lips quirked up into a smile, “Well you’re better than I am.”

“You can’t cook?” Shelby questioned, taking a small bite of her bacon.

Katherine huffed as she started to cut her eggs. “The last time I tried I set the kitchen on fire and my parents banned me from the kitchen as well as cooking.”

Shelby giggled as she watched Katherines nose scrunch up in disdain. “That’s probably a good thing.”

Katherine simply sighed, resting her head on her hand. “I would argue with you but I’m too tired.”

“Did you sleep well?” Shelby asked, starting to squeeze her hands together.

“A little.” Katherine smiled, taking Shelbys breath away. “But I spent most of the night thinking.”

Shelby swallowed thickly, gripping her hands harder than necessary. “Ah… what were you thinking about?”

“How I can help you.” Katherine responded simply.

“What?” Shelby asked stiffening in her seat.

“I mean it’s all so weird right?” Katherine asked, not taking note of Shelbys shell-shocked face. “What exactly is happening to you? Everything that's happened is along the line of visions but why? Why do we look like the twelve ancient rulers? Why did you spend a week dreaming about what I presume to be the past? It just doesn’t make sense.”

Shelby didn’t respond instead she stared wide mouth agape at the other woman.

“What?” Katherine asked, leaning back on the chair.

“But you think I’m crazy.” Shelby mumbled.

The princess raised an eyebrow. “I never said that.”

“But- but- what I’m saying is insane, implausible, stupid. Why would you think about any of that?” The witch demanded, not trusting Katherine to actually believe her.

“Why would you lie to me?” Katherine asked before giving a gentle smile. “You’re my friend Shelby, I’ll always believe you. I also want to help, you shouldn't need to go through this alone.”

“Really?” Shelby swallowed, her leg bouncing up and down.

Katherien nodded and Shelby jumped up and ran over to hug the other girl. “Oh, thank you!”

Katherine laughed and gently pulled the other girl away. “Of course. Now where should we start?”

Shelby is starting to think this festival is a scam.

“Why would I pay fifteen diamonds for some stupid show?!” Shelby asked, outraged, glaring at the bard. She already had to pay a ridiculous fee to get into the festival. Why should she pay even more?!

“Because it’s a brilliant story full of hope and love and despair and-”

“No show is worth fifteen diamonds!” The witch cut Ollie off. “I would give it five at most.”

“Five?!” The bard looked absolutely scandalized. “The only thing that’s worth five diamonds around here is your pathetic excuse for drinks!”

Distantly Shelby could hear someone approaching but she couldn’t care less. This argument was ten times more important. “For your information I give my drinks out for free because I’m not a greedy scammer!”

“Greedy?!” Ollie seethed, bringing his fist up like he was about to swing. “Oh I’ll show you greedy!”

The witch raised her wand. “Bring it on.”

But right as she was about to say a spell a hand caught her wrist. “Let's calm down shall we?” A sweet but deadly calm voice said. When Shelby turned around she could see Katherine looking very exasperated.

“But she-”

“But he-”

“I don’t want to hear it.” Katherine said, glaring at both of them. “C’mon Shelby we have things to discuss.”

Shelby sighed but complied anyway. But right as she turned she gave Ollie her fearsist glare, “This isn’t over.”

“Damn right it isn’t witch.” The bard agreed, looking all too pleased that the woman was being dragged away. It almost made her want to march right over there and continue their argument but one sharp tug from the taller woman made all her plans go out the window.

“Katherine?” Shelby cautiously asked. She couldn’t tell whether the other woman was angry with her or not.

“Tell me you were not going to start a brawl in the middle of the festival.” Katherine inquired although by the looks of it she already knew the answer.

Shelby just gave her a sheepish look. Maybe she would have given her a full answer if it weren’t for the fact that she got very distracted by Katherines hand still on her wrist.

A quiet sigh was the only response making the witch instantly feel bad. “Sorry?”

Another sigh escaped the princesses lips but this time Shelby could see that a small smile was forming which in Shelbys mind is a win.

“For the love of god don’t start a fight in the middle of a festival.” Katherine let go of her wrist and instead planted her hands on her hips. “This is supposed to be a peaceful festival with no fighting.”

Shelby snorted. “You remember that there’s an arena right?”

“Then go fight in there, not out in the middle of the street.” Katherine used her more stern voice. It made Shelby feel like she was being scolded like a toddler.

“Technically it was inside a tent-”

“Shelby.” The tone of voice made the witch stop. “I don’t want to see you get hurt.”

The shorter woman inhaled slightly as her cheeks grew warm. Katherine cared enough that she didn’t want her to get hurt.

Realistically she knew that Katherine cared because she was her friend but the part of her wanted to believe that she cared for other reasons.

So with a long drawn out sigh she said: “Well I guess I can try.”

It was hard work keeping her face dead serious when Katherine gave her a disbelieving disappointed face.

“Shelby-”

“Alright- alright I promise I won’t start a fight!” Shelby forced her words through a loud laugh. “Now back to business. You said we had stuff to discuss?”

For a moment Katherine looked confused before something seemed to dawn on her. “Oh right. I know what our next move should be.”

“What?” The shorter woman blinked slowly.

The taller woman didn’t answer though. Instead she barreled on with her previous statement. “When you were talking something struck me as odd. To me it looked like there was a whole lot of emphasis on that flower crown. You said that the flower crown was making you- uh the other you see things right? Things from the past. So maybe if we find this flower crown we’ll be one step closer to figuring out what is going on.”

“But how will we find it?” Shelby asked. If she’s being honest she’s completely blown away by how smart Katherine is. Maybe she should be happy she told the princess what was happening. Shelby isn’t sure she would have figured out that she needed to look into the flower crown. At least for a while. Thank god someone around here has brain cells. “It’s one flower crown that if I’m being honest is probably destroyed. Flowers can’t live forever.”

“Regular flowers can’t.” Katherine corrected and looked all too pleased with herself.

“Huh?” Okay maybe Shelby isn’t as grateful to have someone so smart.

“You told me about the event that had happened. You said that the flower dust gave magic to the flower crown. It’s possible that the flowers haven’t died.” Katherien said as she leaned against a table.

Shelby ran a hand through her hair. “That’s an awfully big assumption.”

“Not really.”

“No?” The witch crossed her arms as she gave the taller woman a questioning look. “Why not?”

The princess opened her mouth to speak but instead something else caught her eye. She groaned loudly prompting Shelby to turn around. What she instantly made her scoff in annoyance.

Pirate Joe.

He was running right at them with a delusional smile on his face and he looked like he was carrying slime. “What in the world?”

“Can we please go?” Katherine asked although it sounded more like a demand.

“Yes, of course.” Shelby said, whipping out her broom and getting on it. “C’mon he can’t reach us if we’re in the air.”

Katherine grinned, wasting no time as she hopped on behind Shelby. The witch’s face heated up as long arms reached around her waist.

“Katherine?” Shelby squeaked out gasping when the hands squeezed her sides.

“Can we please go?” She asked urgently. “He’s getting closer.”

“O-oh of- of course, sorry.” The witch stuttered out. She took a deep breath in and flew the broom into the air.

“Wait!” The pirate called after them.

The short woman glared down at the man. “Do you wanna hear him out or do you wanna leave?”

Katherine shook her head. “Let’s go. If I indulge him I’ll just end up fueling his fantasys.”

“Your wish is my command.” Shelby grinned, flying the duo away. It probably shouldn’t make her so happy to hear Joey's displeased shouts but it did.

“Thank you so much.” The princess gave a long exhale and leaned her head onto Shelby’s shoulder.

For a brief second the witch got distracted by Katherines face but then the broom jerked and Shelby ripped her eyes back to the road.

A small chuckle from behind made her face burst into flames. “Don’t tell me the great witch Shelby is getting distracted.”

The shorter woman huffed out a shaky laugh. “Never. I’m obviously too great for that.”

“Obviously.” Katherine snorted.

“So uh- do you want me to land anywhere or just stay up in the air?” Shelby asked, gripping her broom way tighter than necessary.

Katherine sighed and from what little Shelby could see the princess was definitely annoyed. “Let’s stay up here. Joey can’t reach me cause he can’t fly.”

Shelby rolled her eyes playfully. “Don’t let him hear that. He’ll figure out a way to get up here.”

“...You’re right.” Katherine groaned. “He’s the absolute worst.”

“Agreed.” Shelby huffed, glaring down at the festival.

“I thought you too were friends though?” The princess questioned. Distantly she could hear the princess shift like she was trying to get a better view of her.

“Yea… we were.” Shelby answered quietly. She hadn’t thought about it much but it honestly hurt her heart that they weren’t friends anymore.

When she had first moved to the Evermore Joey was the first person she met. He didn’t shun her or seem disgusted, it genuinely felt like they were friends. It felt like this was the first time she actually succeeded at someone liking her, the first time she had made a friend just by being herself.

It felt great.

But of course it didn’t last that long. There was no reason to think it would. Shelby’s a jink, a mistake, someone who will only drag you down the longer you’re friends with her. Maybe she was lucky that Joey stopped wanting to be friends with her (even though the reason was bullshit).

She was lucky because Joey would never find out what a pathetic waste of time she is.

“Shelby?” Katherines gentle voice asked.

The witch blinked and quickly scrubbed her eyes to keep tears from falling down. “I’m okay.”

“Are you sure?” The princess asked hesitantly.

“Yep. I’ve never been better.” She wasn’t okay. Far from it. But Katherine didn’t need to know. “Now uh- explain to me what you were talking about earlier.”

Katherine looked like she wanted to argue. She had that look on her face that said, ‘I know you’re lying. Tell me the truth or else’ however she didn’t push for an answer. For a couple seconds the taller woman just stared at her. Like if she continued to look at her then Shelby would tell her the truth.

But that’s not what happened.

Instead Shelby looked away. Shame burning in her gut.

Katherine sighed, instantly making Shelby feel bad. “The same thing happened to me.”

“What did?” Shelby asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

“The thing with the exploding flowers.” Katherine elaborated, her hands tightened around Shelbys stomach as she adjusted on the broom. “I saw it happen.”

“What when?” Shelby demanded, whirling around with confusion etched on her face.

The princess ran a hand through her hair. “A few days into you being missing.” She stopped talking for a brief second and looked almost pained at the reminder of Shelby going missing. “I had stopped in a flower field to rest for a bit when flowers had bloomed out of nowhere. It was just like how you described. At the time I didn’t think much of it but when you told me the story I decided to go back and get one of the flowers.”

“What happened?”

“It didn’t die.” The princess shrugged. “Normally if you don’t take care of flowers they die in a few days. I haven’t taken care of the flower in two weeks and it still is completely healthy.”

That when it dawned on the witch. “So because your flower is still healthy you think the flower crown will still be okay.”

“Yep.” Katherine grinned.

“But how will we even know where to look?” Shelby questioned. “This world is so big!”

“Well we could be looking everywhere but I have somewhere we could start.” Katherine offered.

“Where?” At this point Shelby is open to any and all ideas.

“An ancient library.”

“Where in the hell are we going to find an ancient library?”

“Up in the mountains.”

“And how do you know this?”

“I asked Pix.” Katherine shrugged.

“Oh… that makes sense.” Shelby blinked before grinning. “Well I guess we have a trip to get to.”
