“Don’t lose that spirit you have, my boy,” the doctor encouraged. “Ambition is a gift unlike any other, stronger than even a Quirk. And who knows? One day we may have the technology to create Quirks, or even gift them to others. Perhaps you will one day achieve your dream. Perhaps one day you could be even more powerful than Katsuki Bakugou.”
He said it so confidently, and those words were like lightning in Izuku’s veins. All he could do was stare at the doctor. “You… you think that’s possible?” he whispered, hardly daring to get his hopes up again. “Is that… something you’re developing?”
It doesn’t take much to be set on a different path. For Izuku, it was the day he met All Might and was told he could never be a hero without a Quirk. Later, when he runs into his old pediatric doctor—Dr. Tsubasa—while being treated for a burn, Izuku encounters an opportunity. There is another man in the burn unit, and between the burned man and Tsubasa, they might know a way for Izuku to acquire a Quirk… for a price.
Sometimes, the encouragement you need can come from the wrong source. Not all men are created equal, but Izuku Midoriya is about to even the playing field.
