Work Text:

Mumbo approached the coordinates of his mega base, he flew by and as the gigantic buildings started appearing on the horizon he knew he was getting closer. He finally saw his base and even though he gave Grian permission to do anything there nothing seemed to have changed. He landed on the bridge connecting both his and his friend's bases losing balance a bit, he still wasn't as good in using elytra as other people.

"Mumbo? You're back!" Grian exclaimed just as he turned towards the sound of the footsteps.

Before the redstoner could say anything his friend flew to him and pulled him into a hug whistling knocking him into the floor.

"Good to see you too." He laughed at such a surprising reaction to his return.

"I missed you!"

"I missed you too."

Grian sat in front of Mumbo and said "I have so many things to show you!" He reached out his hand and offered it to his friend to help him get up.

Mumbo finally had taken a good look at the base in front of him. A lot has changed, more rocks and buildings have been added.

Grian said when he noticed what Mumbo was looking at. "I've been a bit busy here."

"Yeah, I can see that, it looks great!"

"That's still work in progress, I have something way cooler that you might like." Grian spread his wings and flew off the bridge.

"Wait where?" Mumbo asked while he tried to catch up with him by using elytra.

"It's just under your base. Riiight here." Grian showed him the entrance to the cave to just in a few seconds fly down there.

"Grumbot?" Mumbo asked as he landed and turned around to see what the robot was facing. "Wait, what is that?" Mumbo asked, confused at the cave underneath his base.

"Well for a start Grumbot came through the Rift, or what was left of it after people from different world visited our's. Anyway he's called Grumbot Prime because of the fact that he came from the universe where you became a major." Grian explained quite briefly considering the amount of time he spent in this cave studying it.

"Can I?" Mumbo looked upon the stash of paper and an anvil.

"Sure, go ahead." Grian nodded, after all it was their robot. "Maybe just think it through whatever you want to say, and don't mess with him." He added to warn his friend.

"Alright…" He wasn't sure if he wanted to know the answer to what happened but knowing Grian it was because of some sort of a war.

"Hello Grumbot, I'm back!" Mumbo read out loud what he had written on a piece of paper before putting it in a chest next to the dispenser.

Few clicking sounds came from the robot, just like in 7th season.

"Mumbo for King." He read the piece of paper dispensed by Grumbot. "What's that about?"

"Oh yeah, quite a lot has happened while you were gone." Looking back it really was only a few months since hermits overthrew Ren, but Grian could've sworn this had a place much earlier in the season. "Ren became the king of the server, restarted the economy, claimed everything and we just won a fight with him and the royal guard."

"So I'm still the richest hermit right?" Mumbo asked a rhetorical question.

"I don't know you never showed or told me how many diamonds you had." Grian answered plainly.

But Mumbo wasn't really focused on an answer; he preferred admiring what was built in the cave. "Wow, I love how industrial it is here."

As he was walking around the cave he noticed a ring of candles surrounding engraved in stone with his iconic mustache and eyes.

"Grian?"

"Yeah?" He answered from different part of the cave.

"What is this?" Mumbo asked when Grian was flying in his direction, landing besides him.

"Oh… that's a summoning circle." Grian answered the question with a quite obvious answer, not wanting to speak much about it.

"For me?"

"I did say I missed you."

"Well, I wasn't expecting that, and it's weirdly quite nice seeing that. So thanks I guess?"

"Okay…" He answered slightly embarrassed by this situation. Before he could think of adding anything else a familiar sound of a new messages in chat could be heard. Grian pulled out his communicator and started typing.

"What are you doing?" Mumbo asked when he noticed a mischievous smile on his friend's face.

"Nothing! Just wait on the surface for a few minutes."

"Of course." He commented sarcastically as Grian flew away, he checked his communicator to see if any new messages in global chat appeared, as he expected, nothing new was there. Mumbo flew upwards, using his last few rockets and landed next to the bridge.

Few minutes passed by and soon the Mumbo got bored by waiting and sat down on the grass near the base of the bridge simply enjoying being back with his friends.

Some more time had passed until Mumbo could hear the sound of fireworks nearby. He turned around and saw Grian flying towards him, pointing a bow at him. Before Mumbo could do anything to protect himself from an arrow he only mentally prepared himself for an impact with his armor and how heavy its weight is a few minutes after materialization. But it never came.

When he opened his eyes he was at spawn without all his gear. Mumbo checked his communicator and it definitely said Mumbo Jumbo was shot by Grian using [cuTeGuY]. He was sure he had his armor on for the whole time, although maybe Grian's bow was too overpowered but Mumbo quickly neglected that idea when he checked in chat what enchantments were on the weapon.

"Welcome back!" Grian suddenly said laughing from behind. Mumbo jumped because of not noticing anyone sneaking up on him. "Oh my god, you should've seen your face." He commented on his friend's reaction, through the laughter.

"Gosh, you scared me. But lucky for me you still owe me 10 diamond blocks!" He said with a winning smile.

The colour from Grian's face had slightly faded as he got reminded of losing a bet. "Oh no! I totally forgot about it!"
