I was just thinking, the SBPD must have missed a ton of things before Shawn started working with them. So many murders dismissed as accidents, cold cases waiting to be solved, ect.
So, during a bout of ADHD insomnia, Shawn heads to the police station in the middle of the night to take a solo look at the records room. He wasn't expecting, however, for Lassie to find him. Maybe he won't be flying solo after all.

Summary
I saw a meme the other day about the water gun from the Rudolph movie, and it kind of sent me into a spiral overthinking it and making it my friend's problem.
I decided to do what every good fanfiction writer does, and take my suffering and turn it into a fic.
This is just Dave having the same spiral I did via Pesterchum to John at 4 am, just made to sound more Dave-ish.

In an AU in which the Sburb shenanigans never happened, and the beta kids all live in the same neighborhood, Dave finds himself spending more time at friends's houses than his own. In particular, at John's house.
Naturally, he ends up talking to John's dad quite a bit, and he starts exclusively referring to him as John's Dad, even to his face.
Basically this is a fluffy fic where Dave borderline lives with John, and also accidentally gains a father figure along the way.
