“..What?” Mista blurted out, dumbfounded.
The blonde across from him closed his eyes and sighed in annoyance.
“Mista, I think I’ve expressed how much I hate repeating myself.”
“..Right.”
“But, I am...a guy. I’m sorry if you were expecting something else-”
“No, no, it’s fine! It’s all good.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, yeah! ‘S all good. Oof, I knew that tea would hit soon...I’ll be right back.”
“Of course.”
With that, Mista got up and headed down the hall, disappearing behind the door of the men’s restroom. Sighing, Giorno looked back down at his own tea and began fishing around for his wallet.
“Nice job, Giovanna. You scared another one off...”
Inside the small bathroom, Mista leaned over the sink, trying to process what he heard. After weeks and weeks of crushing on this supposed ‘girl’ and then finally getting the courage to ask ‘her’ out, now he learns that this whole time he was crushing on this beautiful man?! Wait, beautiful? Mista shook his head; either his brain was still playing catch up, or he was still in denial. Well, it was no lie that Giorno was pretty, anyone with a good set of eyes could see that. With his golden blonde hair that always looked immaculate, those sparkling green-blue eyes that spoke more than himself, his little rants about animals and plants, that rare smile that made his face glow...
Whoa, okayyyyy. So, maybe he is just in denial. Wait, if he still likes Giorno as a guy, would that make him gay? Nah, he knew he still liked girls. He made jokes with the others about being bi, messed around with Narancia a bit, shared some ‘homie kisses’, and did agree that certain guys definitely looked...bangable. Okay, this was getting to be a little more than Mista’s brain could handle, overthinking and overcomplicating things was only going to make things more awkward. He still liked Giorno, loved him even, no matter what he identifies as and he still wanted to go out with him, simple as that. Plus, Giorno has been one of the few that’s stuck around for this long...
“Alright.” He said aloud.
Taking a look at himself in the mirror and smoothing out the stray locks under his beanie, the brunette walked out and braced himself to face his boyfriend head on. Or at least that was the plan. Once he got back to the table he and Giorno were sitting, Mista found the blonde was gone, leaving behind a few bills to pay for his drink and snack. Damn it.
Panicking and after dropping off a few more bills to pay off the tab, Mista ran out of the cafe, frantically looking around for a snatch of that golden blonde hair, only to get even more turned around. Nothing.
“Dammit all...” He whined.
Going to his second option, the brunette pulled out his phone and frantically dialed Giorno’s number, hoping he would pick up.
"C'mon, c'mon, c'mon..."
“Hello?”
“Giorno! Oh, thank God. Listen, I’m..I’m so sorry for freaking out back there.”
“You have the right to react the way you did. I should have told you right away. It’s not the first time...”
Oh, that made Mista’s heart heavier.
“Listen ma-babe,” he sighed. “look, I really, really like you. You’re a total knockout, and you’re smart, and...god, I’m sorry..”
“..Did you really think I was a girl?”
Mista paused and swallowed before Giorno added,
“Be honest. I promise I won’t be mad.”
“...Yeah. Yeah, I did.”
Silence.
“But, I-I still think you're really, really cute as a guy.”
“Oh, really?”
“Oh yeah. Like, you’re like if someone looked at Aurora, thought, ‘Hm, cool. But what if..man?’ and poof, made a prince.”
Over the phone, he heard Giorno giggle, one of those rare laughs that made him glow.
“Well, can I be honest about something as well?”
“Sure!”
“I...thought you were like me.”
Mista paused as his brain stopped and buffered for probably the third time today.
“...What?”
“Okay, let me start over. I wondered and thought that you were trans like me, just more on the masc end. But after that night at Bruno’s place, I found out...you were a man, by default.”
Slowly, Mista’s brain started putting things together, but then he blurted out;
“So you thought we were both...femboys?”
Giorno sputtered over the receiver and snorted, something that sounded oddly close. Looking up and around, Mista searched again and found him this time; by the door to the cafe, hunched over and shaking with laughter. Smiling, the brunette ended the call and walked over to the blonde, waiting for him to finish. Finally, Giorno got himself under control and stood back up, smiling.
“So,” the blonde started. “would you still want to go out with this ‘femboy’?”
Mista responded with a smile, bringing Giorno close and giving him a quick but deep kiss.
“Yeah~”
