Work Text:
Once upon a time, there was a girl who traveled the world. Even though she was lonely, she had a big imagination! She was always imagining crazy things like big fields of flowers, or a giant aquarium! Her big thoughts would keep her distracted from her loneliness, and then one day, she came across a magical field! It spoke to her and told her that her biggest dream would come true! Anything that crossed her mind at that moment would come true!
The girl thought for a moment, and then said to the field.
“Ever since I was young I had a dream that I would be living in a castle made of chocolate and cake!”
And just like that, the ground began to shake! Out of nowhere, giant pillars of chocolate popped up, and around the girl, a castle formed! She gasped and clapped happily, watching as her childhood dream began to become a reality.
The walls were marble chocolate bars, the roof was milk chocolate cigars, the pool outside was caramel chocolate blizzard - and everything was topped with powdered sugar!
“This is amazing!” The girl exclaimed. “Thank you, field!”
However, she quickly realized that being in the castle was really lonely - even more lonely than how she used to be. Before, nature would accompany her, the birds would chirp and the leaves would rustle, and the wind would kiss her hair! But no… the castle was all empty space that not even the tastiest chocolate could fill!
“Field… I wish for some friends!” The girl exclaimed one night. When nothing happened, she sighed and sat on her bed, feeling sad and lonely. But the next day! Three people appeared at her door. They were a wandering group of people looking for shelter, and the girl gladly brought them in! They were all the same age, so it was easy for them to become quick friends. The girl showed them around her castle, her rooms, the garden-
“What is the garden made of?” The songstress asked.
“Chocolate gelatin!”
“And the trees?” Asked the cunning poet.
“Chocolate apples on sticks!”
“What about the flowers?” The wanderer asked.
“Piña colada syrup!”
“You must really love chocolate.” The wanderer mused.
“It’s been a childhood dream of mine!” The girl threw her hands in the air and twirled with glee. “And now it’s even better with friends!”
They promised each other that night that they would always stay friends, and that if they were to ever go their separate ways, then this castle would be their secret base!
The girl loved their company and grew accustomed to them over the next week, forgetting her own sorrows as time went on. A place where she could live her dreams without repercussions, and good friends to accompany her? It was like the ultimate, sparkly dream!
But then…
The girl woke up one day, and couldn’t find her friends. All of their stuff was gone. The castle was devoid of all sound, of all life - and for the first time in a while, the girl cried. As if the field of dreams could sense her feelings, the castle began to crumble all around her.
“What’s the purpose of dreams if you can’t share them with other people?”
The girl sat in the rubble of her chocolate castle for a while, sniffling. Her friends didn’t even say goodbye. What happened to their promise?
When the sun set and the moon rose, the girl stood up and wiped her eyes, resigning herself to her fate. She had given up. Was she destined to be alone forever?
Then, in the distance someone called to her. No… multiple people called to her!
Her friends were running over the hill, flowers and goodies in hand!
“What happened? Are you hurt?” The songstress asked, grabbing the girl’s cheeks and checking for any injuries.
“...no! I’m not!” The girl quickly bounced back from her surprise. “Where did you go?”
“We went into the town nearby to get some presents for you. We wanted it to be a surprise, but we didn’t expect it to take all night.” The poet said.
“Never mind that! What about our secret base?!” The wanderer yelled, throwing his hands in the air. “That was… that was like your home!”
The girl - no, the Dreamer - began to laugh, running forward to bring the three into a hug.
“Don’t be silly! You’re my home!”
“...aaaaaaaaaaaaaand that was my dream last night!” Emu finished, grinning at Nene from her place nestled at Tsukasa’s side. “What do you think?”
Nene opened her mouth, then closed it - then opened it again, then closed it. She decided to let out a bone-deep sigh and brought a hand to her head.
“A chocolate castle? That’s… beyond comprehension.” She grumbled. “But… the ending was nice, I guess. They all found each other in the end, which was... sweet”
Tsukasa nodded in agreement, tightening his hold on Emu. “They don’t have to be alone anymore.”
Rui turned to Emu, his signature cat-like grin forming on his face. “You know…” The glint in his eyes caused the other two to groan, Emu looking up at him with sparkles in her eyes. “That would make for a pretty good show.”
“Can we do it? Please? Please? Please?”
Nene rolled her eyes, but she was smiling, a faint blush on her cheeks. “...yeah. We can make it a show.”
“Yay! New show idea! We have to cast… and then we can bring real chocolate on stage!” Emu cheered. “It’s gonna be so cool!”
Rui sat down next to Tsukasa and Emu, placing a hand on her head. “And we have our little Dreamer right here.”
Tsukasa nodded, putting a hand to his chin as if he was deep in thought. “It only makes sense, after all.”
Nene crawled over and rested her head on Tsukasa’s shoulder, reaching over and taking Emu’s hand in hers. “That is if you’re up to the role.”
Emu grinned, warmth and fuzziness filling her, practically suffocating her and building in her chest-
“Of course!”
