"Oh my god," he whispers. Slowly, he turns around to face the room again. Shoulders hiked up to his ears, biting his lip, eyes shining. It takes about three seconds before he spots Etho. "Oh fuck this."
Etho bites his tongue to keep himself from laughing.
"You've got to be fucking kidding me. Ohhh, I hate this. I hate this! Last time I ever let Scar convince me to do anything, that fucking scum." He points a finger aggressively at Etho. "I don't like you at all. I know you're a human in there, just freaking move already, huh?"
Etho considers the request and cocks his head in a quick little jerk.
"OH MY GOD. I take it back don't move don't fucking move."

In which Etho and Cleo work at the Haunted Mansion as scare actors, and have to accompany a lost and terrified Bdubs through the house after he gets tricked into going in alone.

"You're really into this guy, huh?" Cleo says as Bdubs settles into his seat at the table. Etho's getting the hang of knitting enough that Bdubs finally feels safe to knit too, while he sits beside him ready to help if needed. He only brings idiot-proof stuff to work, anyway, since he's always getting interrupted.
"Excuse me?" Bdubs asks. He aims for teasing, but it comes out a little too raw for that. She must be joking, but god, shouldn't Cleo know better as his best friend?
"Not like that—" they say quickly. "I know you're aromantic and stuff, I mean. Just, like, that you like him a lot, right? You've got a friend-crush.".

Summary
No one ever promised Technoblade safety before.
Plenty of people have offered him plenty of things, but they were always presented as deals. Techno gives himself to them in exchange for something: renown, his life, an escape route off a dying planet. It all seems the same after enough time, and this latest server is no different. The revolution that was supposed to come of it never did.
Techno is tired and done with it all. Frankly, he doesn't even care if there's an age minimum for retiring. If he wants safety, he obviously has to make it for himself.
