Work Text:

“Eddie, can we go on that one?!”

Eddie looked up at the roller coaster Buck was begging to go on.

“I don’t know....” It was really tall and it looked super fast! He could lie to himself and say he was worried about Buck getting scared on it, but even when he was regressed, he was a little adrenaline junkie.

Please ?” Buck gave his best puppy face.

Sighing, Eddie agreed.

They were next in line for the roller coaster. Buck was excited, bouncing up and down. Eddie felt nauseous just thinking about it. Yeah, he was a firefighter and probably shouldn’t be afraid of a roller coaster, and he usually wasn’t, but something about this one was just getting to him. He really wished he hadn’t eaten those hot dogs before the ride.

“It’s our turn, Eddie! Let’s go!” Buck grabbed his hand and pulled him into the roller coaster car. They buckled their seatbelts and a bar was locked in place across their laps.

“This is really all we have for safety?” Eddie asked.

Buck rolled his eyes. “It’ll be fine. Don’t be boring talking about safety .”

The roller coaster started to move. It slowly climbed up the hill. Eddie wasn’t afraid of heights—hell, he’s dangled from higher heights in just a safety harness—but, god was this high.

At the top, Eddie started to feel nauseous again. He was really hoping those hot dogs wouldn’t make a reappearance.

The roller coaster tipped forward and they started flying down the hill! They made several quick turns, going up and down, and even upside down!

Buck put his arms up and laughed. This is so fun! He thought.

Eddie threw one arm across Buck’s chest as if that could keep him in his seat and covered his mouth with his other hand. This is the worst! Eddie thought.

Finally, the roller coaster slowed to a stop and they were freed.

Eddie grabbed Buck’s hand and dragged him far away from the evil roller coaster.

“That was so awesome, Eddie!” Buck exclaimed. “Thanks for riding it with me.”

Eddie’s heart rate finally went back to normal. At least one of them enjoyed the ride. “You’re welcome, buddy. Why don’t we go play some games for a bit? Maybe you can win some new teddy bears to take home with us.”

Buck perked up. “Okay!”
