Chapter Text
It all started with a normal Monday. Yaoyorozu Momo was making her way to UA for her first day of school. She was especially excited, because she had managed to get in on recommendations.
UA was a school for talented people, in fact, it was one of the best high schools in Tokyo. However, it was before she even made it to the school's front gate when she made a decision that would alter the course of her life, a far bigger change than going to one of Tokyo's best high schools, that is.
She was waiting on the footpath at a zebra crossing, waiting for the light to turn green so she could cross, when she noticed a skeleton of a man crossing, paying no regard to the fact that he was jaywalking. The man also didn't seem to notice the cars that were speeding in his direction.
"Sir!" Yaoyorozu called out, trying to warn him of the oncoming traffic, but he just smiled and waved at her, as if he did not notice the concern in her voice.
She quickly looked up and down the road. The cars were coming closer, and Yaoyorozu knew she had to do something, or the man'd get hit. So our protagonist sprinted in his direction, and made a jump to push him out of the way.
The car narrowly missed the pair as they tumbled to the floor. "Ow," Momo complained, sitting up. She stood up and straightened her skirt, before helping the man off of his feet.
He had blond hair, that had two bits drooping at the front. He also had blue eyes, though Yaoyorozu wasn't able to see any whites to them. She also noted him wearing a white t-shirt and jeans, casual attire that wasn't unusual for someone to wear early April.
"Well that was sudden, huh?" He said with a smirk. This made Momo remember she practically rugby-tackled a total stranger to the ground. She quickly bowed.
"I'm so, so sorry Sir, it's just cars were coming and it was the first thing that came to mind and I couldn't just stand by and watch you get hit by a car I-" she began apologizing profusely, but the blond quickly cut her off.
"Do not fear, heroes often move before they even realize what they're doing. You saved me, there is no need to apologize! In fact, I should be thanking you!"
"O-ok Sir." Yaoyorozu responded, standing up straight again. The man smiled, and seemed to notice her uniform. "Well, you better get to school, it wouldn't be good if you were late because of me!"
He then turned and walked away, and Yaoyorozu watched him go for a second, before going back to walking to school.
It wasn't long before she made it to UA. As she approached, she noticed her friend, Tokoyami Fumikage, standing outside waiting for her.
When the bird noticed her, she noticed him shaking his head. "Took you long enough, I was afraid you had died." Tokoyami said sarcastically.
"Sorry Tokoyami, there was a guy on the road who nearly got hit by a car." Yaoyorozu replied, giving her friend an apologetic smile.
"Anyway, we better leave for our homeroom class, I checked the timetable and we are in class 1-A." Tokoyami said, as if being told someone nearly got run over was the norm for him.
They began walking to their class, laughing and joking with each other has they went.
Meanwhile, Todoroki Shouto was running late for his first day of class. He was running down the road, cursing himself for not checking his alarm clock's batteries the night before and sleeping in so late, though he was surprised his father hadn't gone to make sure he woke up at seven on the dot. Maybe it was his way of giving him a little more freedom.
Similarly to Yaoyorozu, Todoroki had made it into UA's main course through recommendations. He was excited, because his father had had the boy homeschooled before now. It would be interesting to experience a normal school experience like any other kid. But his day wasn't off to the best start, because not only was he late, but it had also started lashing rain after he left the house.
Though, when he made his way towards school, something not-so-normal occurred, aside from the sudden rain, that is. A skeleton-like man on the other side of the road was walking in the same direction as Todoroki.
Todoroki was about to make a right hand turn, when the bottom of the blond's shopping bag gave out, spraying groceries all over the footpath. Todoroki turned to him as the man slowly began picking his things up.
Todoroki decided to help, looked both ways and crossed the road. He began picking up a handful of different fruits when the man looked up at him. "Thanks, young man." He said.
Shouto stared at him for a moment before responding. "Sure, just make sure to be more careful next time."
The red-and-white-haired boy then began running again, even later to school than he was before.

When Todoroki finally made it to school, everyone had already gone inside. So far, not a great start to school. He wandered through the halls a bit before finally making it to class 1-A.
When he walked into the classroom, everyone else had already taken their seats, and the slightly intimidating teacher was already giving him the evil eyes. He wasn't sure whether it was for the fact that he was late to class or that he was dripping rainwater all over the halls.
"You must be Todoroki Shouto. You're five minutes late." The teacher said as he came in. Todoroki was prepared to get chewed out for being late, but the teacher's response surprised him. He sighed, "I'll let you off this time as it's your first day, but know I won't be this forgiving next time you, or anyone else for that matter," the teacher added, shooting a glance to the rest of his students, "is late. So don't be late again." "Yes Sir." Todoroki replied.
The boy then turned to the rest of his class, and noticed his spot next to a brunette at the back. Well, technically there was another empty seat between them, probably owned by someone who was somehow even later than him, or was absent. He put down his bag and sat in his seat.
"Hi!" She said cheerily. "Todoroki, right? I'm Uraraka, nice to meet ya! Don't mind Mr. Aizawa, I heard from one of the upperclassmen that he's always grumpy in the mornings." She explained.
Todoroki simply nodded, sort of relieved that someone was being nice to him already.
Throughout the day, everyone got to know their classmates and teachers, some teachers doing fun games to learn about each other while others dove right into school work.
Finally, the end of the day came and it was time to go home. Even though everyone had been happy to meet their new classmates and teachers, they were excited to go home.
It was still raining, so some people stood under cover while waiting for parents or the bus to pick them up, while others decided to make a run for home.
"Hey, Todoroki!" Uraraka called just as he was about to make a dash through the rain. The boy turned around, a questioning look on his face as to what his new friend wanted.
"Before you go," she said, standing next to him. She then pulled out a flip-phone and took a picture of the two of them before Todoroki could react.
"Wha-" "I wanted to take a selfie with my new friend! What's your phone number? I want to send it to you!" She said cheerily.
"Well, it's-" Todoroki began, giving Uraraka his phone number. He was halfway finished when he heard a yell from outside the gates.
"Shouto!" Todoroki turned his head in the direction of the voice, and to his dismay it was who he thought it was. His father was at the gates to pick him up, even though they had agreed he'd walk home.
Shouto turned back to Uraraka, and continued to tell her his phone number, when his father shouted again. "Shouto!"
He quickly finished giving Uraraka his number, before turning away with a sigh. "See you tomorrow at school." He said, and Uraraka grinned. "Yeah! I better head off as well, or my parents will be wondering where I am!" She responded in her upbeat-tone, before running through the rain.
Todoroki walked across the tarmac towards his father, who was standing impatiently at the gate. "I thought we had agreed that I would walk myself home." Todoroki said, annoyed with his dad.
"Well it was raining, and I couldn't just leave you to get wet." Endeavor explained, getting into his car. Todoroki reluctantly got into the back seat. It would've been so easy to just run away right now, away from all his problems.
In fact, Todoroki had contemplated running away before. Many times. But he'd always come to the same conclusion: that it'd be illogical, because not only did he have no resources of his own, but if he tried and failed, he'd get in even more trouble when he got home. So he decided he'd bide his time until he could leave.
"You taking the bus?" Yaoyorozu asked Tokoyami as they left the building. At this point a lot of the people had left, except for a few stragglers like Midoriya, Iida and a couple of third years.
Tokoyami nodded. "Though, the bus hasn't arrived yet, so I have a few minutes to talk." The bus stop was just opposite UA, so it was easy to tell when the bus got there without having to step out in the rain. It was also handy for if a teacher wanted to keep you after class, so you wouldn't be late.
"It's crazy thinking we made it to UA." Momo thought out loud. "Like, it's one of the most prestigious schools in Tokyo, and we're attending!"
Her bird friend smiled. "You really can't wrap your head around that, can you?" "No, not really."
The rain started to clear, so Yaoyorozu decided that she should leave before it gets heavy again. "See you tomorrow!" She yelled, waving to Tokoyami as she ran away.
Once she was gone, another student of class 1-A left the school. Once he left, Midoriya immediately ran up to him. "Kacchan! I hope Mr. Aizawa didn't yell at you too much, but I thought since you missed the last class you could borrow my notes!" He said happily.
Bakugou Katsuki immediately scowled at the green-haired boy. "I don't need your help, Deku!" He spat. "But Kacchan-" Midoriya started, but Bakugou was clearly not interested in his help. "Why do you always annoy me? I can get the notes myself!" Bakugou said, before storming towards home, and Izuku watched him go.

Meanwhile, in an attic somewhere in Tokyo, someone was scheming. It was dark.
The attic window opened, letting light stream in, revealing a man in purple theme suit surrounded by butterflies.
"Ah, yes, a boy who's childhood best friend thinks of him as nothing more than a useless Deku! Fly, my little akuma, and evilize him!"
The man said, as he put a white butterfly between his hands, turning it a purple colour.
The purple butterfly flew across Tokyo, (almost getting hit by three cars on the way) making its way towards UA high school, before finally flying over the gate. It made it's way over to Midoriya, but for some reason it couldn't go into anything Midoriya had on him.
"What, how is this possible?! His friend told him he was useless, how can he not feel despair?!" Hawkmoth exclaimed.
However, before our supervillain got the chance to be too upset, the akuma had started making it's way in the direction of another negative emotion: anger.
Not wanting to go back to the musty old attic just yet, the akuma flew down the road, and dodged through people before finding itself a home in Bakugou's school bag.
"This... isn't what I was planning, but I can work with this. Number One, I am Hawkmoth, your neighbor since you were a child thinks he's better than you. I'll give you the ability to show everyone that you're the best, all I ask for in return is the miraculous of the ladybug and the black cat."
"Whatever you say, Hawkmoth." Bakugou said with a determined smile, before being engulfed in purple sludge.
Once Todoroki went home, he went up to his room to start working on his homework. He turned on the news in the background, when he noticed a strange box on his desk.
He assumed that it must've been from his dad, but he still found it strange, how it was out there so casually and that his father hadn't mentioned it on the way home.
So, Shouto opened the box and immediately the ring inside started to have a black glow, before some sort of creature came out. Todoroki bounced back and grabbed a pair of scissors from his desk and pointed them at the creature.
"Ahh, it's been a while since I've been in the outside world- Oh, looks like somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed today." It said, looking at the scissors that were being pointed in its direction.
"You have sixty seconds to explain what you are and what you are doing in my house or this will end painfully for you." Todoroki threatened.
The cat-like creature sighed, before speaking. "I guess we're doing this the violent way- I'm Plagg and I'm a magical creature called a kwami. You have been chosen to wield the black cat miraculous, which has the power of destruction, so that you can work with the person who has the ladybug miraculous to retrieve the butterfly miraculous back from the bad guys. That do?"
Todoroki stared at him, trying to process what the heck he had just been told. Miraculous? Kwami? Bad guys?
"O-kay you're giving me one of those looks that says that you don't understand a word of what I've just said. Basically by using this ring you can become a superhero to fight akumatized villains. And all you have to do for me in return is feed me cheese. Now do you understand?" Plagg simplified, getting impatient.
"What's an akumatized villain?" Todoroki asked, skeptical about the being's story. "That would be that," Plagg said, casually pointing to the news that was now showing Bakugou blowing up Tokyo.
The blond was no longer in his UA uniform, but instead in an orange and black coloured outfit, a ragged black piece of fabric tied around his head to mask his face around his eyes. His school bag was now a dark green with black stripes covering it, which seemed to be filled with grenades.
Todoroki stared wide-eyed at the screen. "But, why me? I'm not even allowed to leave my house half the time!" "You're not allowed leave your house most of the time? Déjà vu!" Plagg said under his breath before turning back to the confused human.
"Just sneak out! The last black cat holder did!" "Umm, ok...." Shouto said, cautiously putting on the ring.
"So, what's your superhero name gonna be?" Plagg asked. "I could just go with Shouto..." "No! You can't, you gotta keep your identity a secret!" Plagg said.
"Then what do you suggest?" Todoroki asked. "Well, the last person who used the miraculous called himself Chat Noir..." Plagg suggested.
"Ok, I'll use that." Todoroki agreed, deciding he should go do something about Bakugou sooner rather than later. "Ok, just say claws out and you'll transform!"
"Ok, Plagg, claws out!" Shouto said confidently, and Plagg was sucked into the ring.
He then watched in amazement as a black superhero costume formed around him, complete with cat ears and a weapon.
He then exited through the window by extending the stick he was given, going to save Tokyo from a raging Bakugou.

When Yaoyorozu reached her house, she noticed the news playing in the living room. Her jaw dropped at the damage her classmate was causing, especially since he had seemed like a normal kid to her before.
She ran up to her room, deciding that she'd be safe up there, and that the authorities would stop Bakugou soon enough.
When she reached her room, she noticed something odd on her bedside table. A small box was sitting there. Yaoyorozu guessed it was probably a gift from her parents, so she opened it without much thought, curious to the contents.
But as soon as she opened it, a red glow surrounded the earrings inside, and a kwami flew out of it, though unlike Plagg, this one was red with black spots.
Momo screamed as she jumped back from the creature, having no idea what it was.
"What are you?!" She demanded, picking up a pillow and throwing it at the kwami. "Don't worry, I'm not here to hurt you!" The creature said, dodging Yaoyorozu's attack. "I'm Tikki! Please stop throwing pillows at me!"
Yaoyorozu was surprised because she didn't actually expect the creature to be able to talk. But something about Tikki's calm voice made her calm down, and she decided she'd hear her out. But she'd still keep her distance. Just in case.
"What are you doing here?"
Tikki then went on to explain how she was a kwami, and about how the earrings worked, as well as about lucky charm and cataclysm (because she knew Plagg would probably forget).
"So by wearing these earrings... I can turn into a superhero?" Yaoyorozu asked, trying to be sure she heard the kwami correctly. "Yep!"
"But, why? Sure, there are bad guys in Tokyo, but never any that'd need a superhero. And, why me? I'm just a normal high school girl!"
"Well, I'm not sure why you were chosen, but the master of the miracle box has never been wrong! Well except for that one time- anyway! And for the supervillain thing," Tikki turned on the news, which still showed Bakugou rampaging.
"I have to fight Bakugou?" "Yes, and you better hurry, or someone could get hurt!" Tikki urged. "But I know him! I can't fight him!" The girl said. "But Yaoyorozu, he's under the influence of an akuma! If you don't stop him, no one will!"
Yaoyorozu sighed. This must've been the craziest day of her life. She then sighed and quickly put on the earrings. "Ok, defeat the villain, destroy the object, capture the akuma. Got it. Tikki, spots on!"
After saying the trigger words, a red and black outfit formed on Momo's body. Around her waist hung a yo-yo, and a mask on her face hid her identity. She then slung out of the window, ready to fight her first superhero battle.
