"Sonic! Sonic, we need backup, where are you?!" He heard Sonic's pink friend scream into her communicator, for what had to be the 3rd time, before she smashed another bot into scraps and bolts. Shadow heard what could be described as a grumble of reluctant affirmation and a small click that signaled the end of the transmission.
Within a couple of minutes, the familiar blue trail was seen approaching the battlefield. He almost seemed slower than usual, his feet dragging, head slightly lowered. When he stopped, he noticeably wobbled, almost toppling over in the process, his face was not his usual cocky grin, but an annoyed frown. He didn't give any of his usual greetings to his friends or snarky quips to the doctor. He was eerily quiet.
Upon further inspection, he had obviously just been woken up if his puffy eyes and lips were anything to go by, not that he was staring at his lips or anything. He watched him sleepily trip out of the way of one of the bots, his quills that were usually neatly kept were pushed down more noticeably on his right side, a few pieces of grass and leaves sticking out of his blue quills and fur, flying off in his stumble. His face contorted from dazed to an agitated frown accompanied by a low growl and a puff of his unkempt quills. Shadow had most definitely not found it endearing. Not at all.

After the battle was predictably won, Sonic was seen continuing his nap in field of wild flowers.
