He knocked twice, the sharp sound filling his ears. Shadow adjusted the cuffs of his jacket as the door opened, revealing Sonic's bright grin. He smiled back, and opened his mouth to greet him, when loud footsteps that shook the ground made him pause.
A large, brown owl stepped behind Sonic, absolutely towering over them. Her beak pressed downwards into a frown as her teal eyes sliced through his soul.
Shadow gulped.
Holy shit, that woman has definitely killed someone before.
Or: Shadow meets Longclaw and gets a shovel talk.

Everyone knows when it comes to Soulmates, humans have each other’s names tattooed on them, foxes can’t lie to each other, dogs can scent each other and hedgehogs' quills can’t hurt one another
Except for Shadow. All he knows about soulmates comes from the rom-coms Maria used to make him watch.
“What the hell?” he raised a brow as he regarded Sonic from atop a pile of his fallen enemies (ever the dramatic,) “what type of weak hedgehog are you! Your quills are softer than my fur.”
Sonic froze.
What did Shadow just say–
Sonic’s quills were…soft to him?
