Summary
Jeongguk Jeon cannot entrust the season of Christmas with the same level of merriment as the rest of the world is wont to do. It isn't that he is a cynic. In fact, his thoughts are so often entrenched in a false idealism unbefitting his lowly status that one may declare it his most devastating character flaw.
Nonetheless, the season of short days and cold temperatures, and of tree decorating and family gatherings, is also the season by which a number of events befell Jeongguk. Those events being such that no person should question his reasoning for visiting Kim Manor with more than a healthy amount of trepidation. Why would he, a mere blacksmith’s apprentice, be invited to the estate of the wealthy recluse on Christmas Eve?
Or orphan Jeongguk abandons his humble origins to become a gentleman when his life is transformed by a mysterious and eccentric benefactor.
