Chapter Text
He had spent the entire day walking, looking for someone who could need his blessing on the dark abandoned alleyways in this city but, besides a baby left to die inside a trash bin, he didn't found anything.
After he got the baby out, he realized that they were looking at him in wonder, eyes dark and glistening like the night sky.
He was sure that, once he left them on the nearest orphanage, the baby would forget about him.
After all, he was just another mob character in everyone else's lives, it's not like he was special besides his Fortune.
After getting something to eat from a grocery store with money that the Divine Fortune flew towards him, he walked towards the outskirts of the city, to where the crops laid. That way, he won't have to worry about annoying human interactions.
With the setting sun, the crops were silent, so he ate the sandwich he bought for himself, throwing the envelope somewhere around he had sat down, laying down to look at the sky.
He would eventually need to get up and find a place to sleep, thanks to the wintery cold wind, and the jacket over his shoulders being the only thing that was protecting him from it, but for now, it was ok to stay here.
With the sunlight slowly receding, the weak shine of the stars started to show, with more and more of them slowly appearing the darker the sky became.
Eventually, the sky became a shining, spotted painting, every spot being a star, a nebula, or a galaxy. The cloudy form of the Milky Way cut the sky in two parts, with him in the middle of its line.
He didn't find it interesting, though, the Divine Fortune giving him everything he could know about the image right before his eyes. He could easily recognize any constellation that was showing right now, even those that didn't exist anymore, find whatever galaxy and stellar cluster with pinpoint precision and know what planets could be seen right now.
But, at the same time, it was a constant that gave him some sense of calm. A starry sky was a sign that there wasn't any humans, so he could stay without being accosted by people only wanting his Fortune to themselves.
A shooting star passed right by the corner of his eye. When he was younger, he had an habit of using the Divine Fortune to create them, because it was the only thing on the night sky that still catched his attention, even if he already knew everything about them and his Fortune made it impossible to not see one.
One day, even the shine of those sky arrows will become another meaningless thing in this stagnant world, however.
After maybe half an hour, he got up. He had to return to the city to find a place to hide and sleep, he couldn't stay all night looking at the sky and its stars, even if it was better than handle the noise of other people that would never notice him.
He didn't needed to walk much before he found an old apartment building, that it looked like it was going to collapse any time soon. The inside didn't looked better, with him eventually being able to get into a room that had its front door broken.
The room was marginally better than the rest of the building, with signs that dangerous people had used and were using this room thanks to the broken door.
Well, that meant that he had to get out as soon as he woke up.
After grabbing a blanket from the pile in the middle of the bedroom, he looked through the stained window of the room, looking at how the lights of the city left the sky devoid of all the stars he had seen when he was laying on the outskirts of this place.
After he left the window, he hid inside the closet, which was completely empty besides some cloth hangers. After covering himself with the blanket, trying to ignore the smell of iron in it, he huddled right on the darkest corner of it and went to sleep, waiting for the sun to come back and another day of wandering to start.
