Work Text:
Hikaku looks up, enjoying the sight of the sakura laden branches which wave overhead. There's still a slight chill in the air, but the bitter cold of winter has passed and it feels like the whole world is in bloom.
"Hey, dumplings over flowers!" Izuna-sama waves a gyoza at him, and Hikaku eats it right off the chopsticks.
Izuna-sama blushes charmingly, somehow shy even after all they've done together, and Tobirama-sama smirks to see it.
"We are in public!" Izuna-sama hisses venomously at his rival. "Can you at least show some decorum?"
"We are shinobi," Tobirama-sama seems, as always, utterly indifferent to the public perception of him, but Hikaku knows it's a lie. The heir to the Senju Clan simply doesn't care for manners, preferring to weaponise his reputation instead. "Decorum is a waste of an opportunity, when instead we could be making a declaration."
True to his words, Tobirama-sama picks up an inari-zushi, holding it out between two fingers. His eyebrow is raised challengingly, and Izuna-sama huffs with annoyance before eating it right out of his hand.
"Fine then, if you are both quite finished marking me as your personal territory..." Izuna-sama pulls the plate of wagashi over to himself, clearly intent on claiming all of it. "I'm going to go back to feeding myself, thank you very much!"
"Yes, I'm quite done, thank you." Tobirama-sama's eyes are alight with mirth, something that Hikaku could never have conceived of during the war. Indeed it's something he could never have imagined even a year ago, before they became friends.
Just like today's meal, really.
Oh they've eaten together before, that's nothing new, but never with an audience like this one.
"Why is your brother stalking us?" Hikaku keeps his voice low, but the scuffle that breaks out behind the bushes on the edge of the river makes him suspect he's been overheard anyway.
"Ignore nii-san, he's crazy." Izuna-sama rolls his eyes, and Hikaku is sure that he can hear a bitten off exclamation of outrage.
"I am used to Madara-sama, I meant your other brother." Hikaku steals a wagashi right out from under Izuna-sama's questing fingers, and pops it into his mouth. "Those bushes were not there this morning."
"Ignore Anija too, he's also crazy." Against all custom, Tobirama-sama pours sake into his own dish, as if to fortify himself against annoyance. "Together, they are exponentially worse."
Ah, it seems this is just one more new thing that Hikaku is going to have to accept then.
He huffs a soft laugh, accepting the cup that Tobirama-sama places in his hand and raising it in a silent toast.
To family.
Because these men are most certainly worth it.
