Chapter Text
2014 - XX - XX
"say, Kaworu have you ever thought about how things will be in the future?"
Shinji just sat still on his swing, looking to the ground and thinking as usual. He glanced over to his friend desperately waiting for an answer to his question curiously
The albino continued to swing slightly on his swing seemingly enjoying the light wind that came just perfect on a long warm day, slowly opening his eyes once he stopped swinging completely.
"why do you ask? Are you afraid you might lose me?"
They both stopped swinging and just stared holes into the sand underneath their feet, a park which they decided to go to before someone comes to pick them up and seperating them once again.
Kaworu loved being with shinji ever since the day they met, the first time shinji had talked to him, the first time someone ever accepted him. It felt so unreal to him, as if it was all a dream he'd cruelly be woken up from the second one of his siblings barges into his room yelling at him to stand up.
The sun was high over the hills shining as usual,
"you can't answer a question with a question Kaworu!"
Shinji looked at the other, piercing him with his curious eyes. What was it that he wanted to hear from Kaworu? Ofc he was afraid of losing him, he was the first one to ever treat him that kindly afterall.
Kaworu was such a strange person, shinji never really fully understood him but then again he liked it that way. It was something that drew his friends character, something that made him Kaworu. Shinji never wanted Kaworu to leave his side no matter what comes.
"well then, in the future i see.."
The gray haired boy stopped talking for a moment,
What does he see in the future? What is it that he wants? The question was quite sudden and he never really thought about it so he took the silence as an opportunity
"i never really thought about that but I want you to be happy in the future"
It was quite once again, a silence that was neither uncomfortable or comfortable at the same time.
Shinji didn't know what to say, he didn't know what he wanted either none of them did but deep down he knew he wanted to continue being with Kaworu.
A strange feeling came up to shinji when the question 'what would I do if he was gone?' came up to his head. what would he do? Would he be able to move on from his beloved friend and live without him? What would happen, would Kaworu miss him?
A car was to be heard from afar before the other's brother started parking and calling him
"Kaworu, come on its time to go home now"
It was sachiel, one of Kaworus older brothers who came to pick him up. He shared one last look with his friend before he eventually had to go home seperating them both once again.
He knew Kaworu didn't like his home, he had many siblings and his parents weren't the best either they never really cared for him unlike his siblings that got cherished by his parents. The brunette pitted him, even if his father was no different at least his mother loved him dearly he doesn't know what would have happened if both were the same as his father.
It's been 20 minutes of silence already with nothing but the sound of the wind flowing through the trees, the sound of locusts chirping in the field near by and the sound of the now empty swing beside him were to be heard. His fathers car was still nowhere to be seen. Did he forget about him? He was thinking again staring into the sand as a small tear started rolling down his cheek, he stood up from the swing to violently kick around in the sand. He was mad at his father for always forgetting to pick him up, shinji was frustrated, he was just a child he shouldn't feel this way right? This was all wrong because of him. If only the sand was his father at the moment.
Another minute passed with no change except for people staring when passing by, the boy decided to pick his bag up and just walk home at the end there was no use in waiting if he knew he won't show up. If only Kaworu was here to talk about things and make the way home less boring they could talk and laugh all the way home Kaworu would always make sure that shinji was fine and he loved that on his friend.
The walk felt empty all the way until he suddenly saw another boy in front of him sitting on a bench, he looked about the same age maybe a little older? He was reading a book that shinji just happened to know very well it was his favorite even. The boy on the bench seemed to have noticed shinji stopping in his track to look at him because he was now looking back at him with a charming smile that reminded shinji of Kaworu a little bit too much.
"can I help?"
His voice sounded rough but soft at the same time shinji needed to process what was going on until he noticed that the boy had stood up and outstretched his hand for him to shake
"my name is aru, are you okay?"
Another minute passed without a word before shinji choked out a few words he didn't think he'd approach him just like that??
"uh no Uhm I mean yeah I am okay thanks I just uh really like that book that you're reading I have it too yk oh yeah! I'm shinji by the way "
The brunette was a bit shy to talk to others that weren't Kaworu he never liked talking to others in general he liked listening to music more than communicating with people.
"shinji hm.. Nice name were you by chance heading home?"
Aru looked at him patiently, like a flower waiting for the night to pass so it can continue to grow. Did he go to the same school as him? How did he not notice someone so outstanding like aru? Maybe he was like Kaworu? Did he stand in the shadows of the more popular people and not like to communicate in school too? He forgot he asked him something twice or thrice already he snapped awake again
"uh YEAH I was just.. going home"
He remembered how his father had forgotten about him numerous times in a row and started to get that gross feeling again. Aru had probably noticed that something was off because he put a hand on shinjis shoulders asking if he's okay or if he needs a glass of water. He's not wrong shinji looked unusually pale in that moment, he turned all the offers down and told aru that he needed to go home now
"I could come with you if you like, my house isn't too far from this road so if you like a companion I don't mind coming along"
He was right aru is indeed a lot like Kaworu they both have the kind attitude he wondered if there is anything behind a facade or if it's a genuine act? They agreed to walk home together and talked a lot about the book aru was reading earlier such as a few other interests aswell, turned out that his newafe friend liked to play e-guitar and Bass, shinji was fascinated by him he seemed like a cool person. Oh how he wished to be like aru.
"oh man that's my stop.. Well it was nice talking with you shinji I'm glad I was able to meet you I hope we can talk again soon, see you"
He hugged shinji as a goodbye and left him standing outside of his house with a face as red as a tomato he wasn't used to hugs at all. After what felt like an hour shinji continued to go home until he reached the doorstep to his house, not wanting to enter and tell his mother how his father had forgotten about him again. It pained him to just mention it already.
Shinji remember that he was given a key last night so he started searching all around in his pants and bag for the key his beloved mother had given him, when he found it he slowly unlocked the door and sneaked in to not wake anyones attention rushing to his room in a quick pace, he didn't want to talk to anyone in that moment not even his mother so he just changed into his Pyjamas and went straight to bed.
