Work Text:

Voices, beloved ones deeply treasured by the warmth he held within himself, caught Wangji’s attention as he looked up from reading poetry to listen as Sizhui and Wei Ying spoke on the other side of the door.

He hears the quiet thanks in his son’s voice. “Thank you for the help with the hunt tonight, Senior Wei. We really appreciate it.”

Wei Ying laughs softly in response. The slightly muffled shifting robes on the other side of the doors tell an unseen story of Wei Ying pulling their son close to himself. “I told you already, Sizhui, no need for that. I’m glad to have been nearby.”

Warmth blooms within the confines of Lan Wangji’s heart and soul as his lively husband slips through the door after returning from one of his latest trips and having been nearby to help with Sizhui’s current group of Lan juniors on a Night Hunt. One that had sounded very routine from the reports that Wangji himself had heard three weeks before Wei Ying departed on a trip a day earlier than their hunt. An opinion Wei Ying had shared with him upon their silent shared glance spoke volumes about the small amount of information given at the beginning.

Warm hands gently settling on his cheeks distract Wangji from wandering thoughts seeking to fall into spirals as he meets Wei Ying’s soft gaze before Wei Ying takes one of his hands, lightly tugs him up, and leads him out into the early rain of the nightly storms. He allows Wei Ying to pull him into dancing with the storm around them. The soaked feeling of cold wetness soothed away as Wangji felt warmed by Wei Ying’s closeness.

Then tenderly, Wei Ying takes his face back into the warm cradle of his hands and kisses Wangji’s wet eyelids.
