Gravity.

Summary:

Falling.

He couldn't catch you.

Work Text:

Falling.

The ground was so close. He was right there. He would catch you.

He didn’t.

He was so close. You slipped past his servos, and landed directly on a broken pipe sticking out of the ground and yelled with pain.

The pain was great in Ratchet's spark for a split second, then it subsided to a dull throb. He reached for you, and fell to his knees with a cry. “No- no.” He called, and you turned your helm to look at him. You smiled weakly.

The pipe had gone directly through your spark.

And you can’t save someone so close to death in the middle of a battlefield.

“My darling… you cannot leave me!..” He cried out. “I’ll save you! I can do it- I swear I can!” He lifted you off the pipe and reached for his medical tools, but your servo gently grabbed his and stopped him.

“You… know you can’t..” You said weakly, and energon tears began to fall from his optics. “Yes I can. I’ll prove it-” He tried to reach for his tools again, but you held onto his servo as tight as you could at the moment.

You used your other servo and pulled your helm close to his, pressing them together.

“I’ll be the brightest star in the sky.” You whispered.

He began crying.

Your optics offlined and your servos and helm went limp, falling away from Ratchet.

And in the middle of a battlefield, a war-hardened medic cried.

He cried out with the pain of someone who had just seen their beloved die. Because he had.

He had lost many comrades and partners in battles.

But none hurt him like this.

No death hurt him as much as yours.

It's painful to lose one's sparkmate. To feel like a piece of you was ripped away to never return.

He kneeled there on the ground, holding your limp frame. Crying. The other Autobots had surrounded him, fending off the Decepticons to give him time to mourn.

They knew how painful it was for him.

They knew.

The war-hardened medic sat at his monitor, blankly doing work.

There was nobody there to tell him to go recharge now. Nobody to tell him he needed rest.

Optimus Prime looked into the room, seeing Ratchet blankly staring at the monitor. He frowned, and then looked away, continuing on to wherever he was going.

Ratchet didn’t even notice.

On the roof of the Autobots base, a young scout sat, staring at the sky, optics frantically searching for something. Bumblebee found it, and let out a soft whirring noise.

“Hi {Name}. We all miss you.”
