Chapter Text
As far back as I can remember Kyle and I had always been friends, not just friends but super best friends. That is why it shocked everyone when we started to lose that closeness as we got older. I guess it all started when we entered the seventh grade and a kid named of Chad began to bully him almost every day. Kyle tried his best to ignore such an ignorant asshole but I could tell it was getting to him. I also knew he was upset about his parents and how they had started to arguing all the time.
“What if they get a divorce?” he asked one night when he was over at my house for a sleepover.
“I don’t know what to tell you dude,” I sighed looking up at my ceiling “but I don’t think they will.”
“Yeah,” he replied, “you’re probably right and I’m just over thinking it.”
For a while after that his parents seemed to be getting along better and one day Kyle never showed up at school.
“Where’s your little lady friend?” Chad smirked as I walked past him on my way to class. I ignored his comment taking my seat next to Kenny and waited for it start. I tried to texting Kyle at lunch but he never texted back.
“I hope everything is alright,” I said placing my phone down on the table right next to my tray of food so I could take a bite.
“He’s probably just on his period,” Cartman laughed joining Kenny and me at the table.
I just rolled my eyes and decided that I would stop by after school and see what was up before I went home. After school I went straight to his house only to find him sitting on his front steps with his head in his hands just staring down at the ground deep in thought.
“Hey dude,” I greeted walking over and taking a seat next to him on the step.
“He left,” he replied coldly without even looking up at me.
“I’m so sorry,” I said placing my right hand on his shoulder.
“He left us for another woman,” he said bitterly.
I was silent as he continued to talk, it turned out that his dad had met a younger woman and decided to leave his family to be with her instead.
“That’s really fucked up,” I said not knowing what else to say to him.
He said nothing as he got to his feet and let out a heavy sigh before turning around and going inside his house. I opened my mouth to say goodbye but he closed the door in my face, I let out my own sigh as I made my way back to my house.

When Kyle returned to school, he started acting differently with all of us and became really snappy with me.
“Fuck off Stan!” he snapped pulling his shoulder away from my touch when I tried to give him a supporting pat letting him know that I was here for him. I backed away wondering what I had done wrong. I had only asked how he was holding up and how worried I was about him. “Just leave me alone!” he spat shoving past me and walking away as fast as he could.
“Dude, what has his panties in a twist?” Cartman asked smugly.
“Not now Cartman,” I replied turning away from him and walking off in the opposite direction as Kyle. He ended skipping the rest of his classes that day and I did not see him until after school that day. I saw him just as the bus started to pull away on the side of the school talking with Chad.
“Stop the bus!” I shouted but the driver just ignored me and kept driving. At the first stop I quickly got off and rushed back towards the spot where I saw Kyle and Chad but by the time I got there they were both gone. I looked around for any signs of a struggle but found nothing. “Maybe I was just seeing things,” I tried telling myself.
Later that night I was in my room staring down at my phone wondering if I should call him or not? I scrolled through my contacts until his name appeared and I dialed it, two or three rings in and he sent it to voice to mail.
“Hey Kyle,” I said into my phone “it’s Stan, I was just calling to say hi and make sure you were okay. If you could please give me a call back when you can.” I pushed the red button to hang it and sat down at my computer desk waiting to see if he was going to respond, my phone beeped from a text. I picked it up and opened it which read :can’t talk right now:

Over the course of the next few weeks Kyle started skipping more and acting strange, he even started hanging out with Chad more. On the days he chose to stay in school he would sit with his new friends and not even say anything to us. I tried to talk to him once, but Chad was standing there with his gang, and they were known to beat the crap out of anyone who even looked at them weird. With all the skipping Kyle was doing his grades dropped rapidly and he started getting detention.
“KYLE GET BACK HERE!” I heard Mrs. Broflovski shout after him as he stormed out of his house one evening as I was helping my mom carry in groceries.
“Just leave me alone!” he snapped back “You fat bitch!”
“What…what..what”! she shouted back “You get back here right now mister!”
I watched him storm my way glaring at me as he passed on by and down the sidewalk. Mrs. Broflovski was left standing in her front yard with her hand over mouth clearly upset over what had just happened. “Oh Sheila,” my mom said softly walking over to her.
“I don’t know what I did wrong Sharon,” she replied with crack in her voice as she fought back her tears “he’s just changed so much since Gerald left us.”
“I know Sheila,” my mom said giving Mrs. Broflovski a supportive hug.
Mrs. Broflovski nodded before turning to me “Do you think you could talk to him?” she asked, “To find out what’s wrong.”
“I guess I can try,” I replied slowly “but I’m not sure if he even wants to talk to me anymore.”
“He’ll listen to you,” she said giving me a tiny smile “you are his best friend.”
I opened my mouth to say something, but my mom gave a stern look letting me know that I had no choice but to go after him. I had no clue where he was as I walked in the direction had he stormed off in. Shoving my hands in my pockets thinking about what they expected me to say to him when he had not spoken to me in weeks. “Great,” I sighed “Kyle’s not even talking to you, what makes you think he’s even going to want to see you?”
My feet led me to Stark’s Pond….. “Well, what do we have here?” a deep voice asked coming from behind me. I quickly turned to see Chad leaning up against the sign smoking a cigarette. I swallowed hard wishing I had not come this way “This was a bad idea.”
Chad tossed his cigarette on the ground and stomped it out giving a quick nod towards his friends who were standing in the shadows. “Let go of me!” I hissed struggling to free myself from one of his friends that had grabbed a hold of my jacket collar.
“What gave you the right to come waltzing in on my turf?” Chad asked walking over slowly with such a smug look on his face.
I was just passing by looking for my friend," I replied never noticing how much he towered over me until he stood in front of me.
“Stan, what the fuck are you doing here?” Kyle asked finally stepping out from behind Chad glaring at me.
“Kyle?” I asked feeling Chad’s friend tighten his grip on my jacket.
Chad looked back at Kyle then said, “Let him go.”
Now that I was free I turned to face Kyle “Dude, can we to talk?”
“And what makes you think that I want to talk to you?” Kyle asked bitterly crossing his arms across my chest
“Please,” I replied
“If you have something to say to Ky then you can say it to all of us,” Chad said as he stepped in between Kyle and me folding.
“I know what you want to Stan,” Kyle replied rolling his eyes “you want to tell me to stop acting like this and to go back to the way that I was before. But let me tell you something I like the way that I am now and if you don’t like the way I am than you can just FUCK YOURSELF!”
“Well, you heard the man,” Chad smirked shoving me causing me to stumble backwards a bit “I’m going to give you to the count of ten to get your sorry ass out of here before we kick it.”
I took one last look at Kyle before I hurried out of there as fast as I could, I was completely out of breath by the time I reached end of my street. I was just about to start walking down it when someone grabbed me from behind. “Oh Jesus,” I said quickly covering my face the best I could.
“Sorry about that back there,” Kyle laughed
“Huh?” I asked all confused as to why he was acting like way he was.
“Chad was just being a douche,” he replied laughing again.
I blinked still confused by his actions “You should have seen the look on your face,” he said making a funny panicked face.
“Dude, why are you even hanging out with those guys?” I asked not seeing the humor in this.
“Chad understands me,” he replied straightening up and changing his happy face to a more serious one.
“But we have been friends since preschool,” I explained “doesn’t that mean anything to you anymore?”
“Oh my God!” he exclaimed rolling his eyes “Are you fucking jealous?”
“No,” I quickly replied, “I’m just worried about you.”
“Worried about what?” he defended
“You just have been acting really weird since your dad left and I am worried about you,” I explained.
I watched his face change to an even darker tone “You don’t know anything!” he spat
“You’re right,” I sighed “but that’s not my fault.”
“Not your fault!” he hissed quickly grabbing the front of my jacket and pulling me towards him “You never listen to anyone’s problems but expect everyone to listened to all of yours!”
“That’s not true!” I snapped back shoving him away “When you dad first left I tried to talk to you but you shut me out!”
“Whatever,” he shrugged turning away from me.
“You want to talk now?” I asked, “Fine, I think Chad and his friends are bad news.”
Kyle shook his head and turned back towards me “You don’t even know them.”
“Well, neither do you!” I shot back “Not even two months ago those assholes were bulling you nonstop in case you don't remember.”
“I’m not that loser anymore,” he replied bitterly shoving past me to walk back to his new friends.
“Kyle don’t do this,” I replied, “you’re going to end up getting hurt.”
“JUST SHUT UP!” he snapped stomping back and getting in my face “Chad’s not going to hurt me, he’s a real friend that actually has my back unlike someone else!”
“Have they brainwashed you or something?” I asked, “Because the last time I checked real friends are not shoving other friends into lockers and shit like that.”
I must have struck a nerve because in flash he caught me off guard by shoving me hard to the ground and causing me to hit the back of my head on the sidewalk and was now standing above me with his hands balled into tight fists shaking with anger. I knew right then and there that he had changed and was no longer my best friend, he was someone completely different and I am not going to lie it scared me.
“You stay away from me!” he hissed
My eyes stung as I held back tears know how much he wanted to hit me…. “Aw, are you going to cry?” he mocked.
“No,” I lied.
“You’re such a baby,” he laughed “I don’t even know how I could stand being you friend in the first place?”
I tried to keep my tears from falling out but this only seemed to amuse him even more, he then knelt down leaning all his weight on to me and raised his left fist high in the air ready to strike. I swallowed hard as he brought fists down to my face but stopping inches from it.
“You’re not even worth it,” he laughed finally standing up straight and fixing his jacket and walked away. I sat up to watch him leave and I knew it was never going to be the same between us ever again. It hurt knowing he was just tossing our friendship out like it was a piece of garbage.
