Work Text:
It was late at night, Liu Er was one of the only people still awake, doing night training while he heard pratically everything from outside Wukong's waterfall.
His glamours were off, there was no point in keeping them on in the obscurity of Wukong's home.
Pitter-pattering rain, the slight squeals from monkies going into the cold rain, and even the flowing of the majestic waterfall, along with the faraway thunder back at the city.
He hated sleeping at night. It was when pratically anything that could go wrong, does.
Rain, thunderstorms, any loud weather ALWAYS seemed at happen at night for him, it was overwhelming as hell. One time Wukong had to aid him because he'd tried ripping off his own six ears.
after a few more test hits with his shadow clones, combat rather than for illusion, he takes a break and leans back onto the cold stone wall, listening to the rain and everything it'd hit.
The sounds of nature were interrupted by a faint heartbeat. One of many, but one familiar.
It was Wukong. What was he doing up at this hour?
His six ears flick around, as if they were searching for the flow of the beat, trying to locate the other simian.
He's led to the outsides of Wukong's newly installed breakfast nook, as he goes outside every sound he'd heard before enhanced in quality. Luckily it wasn't such a bother consider it was the dead of night.
He easily weaves around it using his shadowy wisped form.
Wukong's outside, simply looking out to the land.
Something's different. He's acting different.
Macaque stuffs the small memo to the backs of his head, the main thing he should be doing is finding out what the latter's doing.
He approaches Wukong slowly, tail flicking around in curiosity and eyes locked with even more of it.
"Wukong? What are you even doing out here?"
The look he'd got was unexpected to say the least.
Wukong slowly looked back at him, his right eye glowing icy blue and his face blank. He looked like he didn't even know what he was doing.
There was a blueish tint to his face marking. Was this a side affect of his possession? Scars LBD's right hand man had left on him?
"Liu Er." Wukong said it blunt and stern, his voice sounding more layered over than his usual confusion.
"You're not Wukong."
Whoever this was, turns back to the ledge, smoothly whipping the tail of it's body, looking down at the hands that weren't theirs.
"I'm just as much as him as he is me. It's obvious you could tell." this thing shot Macaque a cold look over his shoulder.
"Are you..her?" Macaque says with slight worry in his voice.
Not for the impostor, but his Wukong.
"You catch on quite quickly. But no, I'm merely what's left of her."
Macaque looks them over with confusion.
"And considering how much of her is left, I'm clearly powerless." It turns around, looking at him to answer this particular question.
"Then—then what are you doing in his body." The worry faded away quickly, only to be washed over with a tone of interrogation.
"Suprisingly, I don't have an answer to that myself. All I DO know is I'm stuck."
"So, you could've controlled him anytime you wanted?"
"In a way, but I was unaware of that on my own." It's stopped looking at his hands, crisscrossing facing the one who interrupted it's peaceful night.
He seemed familar. Six ears. Lightly colored and a scarred, forever fogged eye.
It seems my piece remembers this simian.
Macaque's spaced out at this point, only just now noticing something about Wukong's eyes.
They were flashing, in a way. From a faint gold glow back to the glowing iced blue.
Was he fighting for control? Or was it fighting back.
"It's not gonna work, Wukong's a persistent guy."
It looks up at Macaque. Giving him a slow blink, the icy blue has gotten fainter.
"I assume so." It closes his eyes, with a now calmer expression on his face.
After a few minutes of silence, and quick blinks, Wukong's right eye goes back to being a dull yet noticable blue, and the other back to it's natural gold.
Only the left one is slightly glowing now, Wukong's came back.
"Macaque, mind explaining why I'm outside?"
This was gonna be a long story.
