There was a crack, like the snap of a whip, electricity buzzing through the air, as the curse rushed past him. Harry twirled, eyes settling on Sirius. To late.
Harry reached for him, hands brushing against the fabric of his shirt mere inched parting them and he followed suit. Tilting forwards, about to cross through the fabrics of the veil before he was harshly pulled back.
Sirius was gone, the voices grew louder, his hand fell. Sirius was gone. Someone was screaming. He struggled against the hold on him. Sirius was gone and Harry was all alone. Again.
"Good one James---" His ears were ringing, eyes stinging, throat constricting, he gave up on his struggle as he collapsed on his knees.
He would wake, screaming and struggling, gasping for air, realizing it was another vision, another lie fed to him. He would awake at any moment. Realizing that Sirius was still in Grimmauerplace.
This was a nightmare. Snape had warned him, told him Voldemort would use his own mind against him, then why wasn't he waking up why---There was a cackle ringing through the air, it made his insides curl, hatred like he had never felt before rushed through his veins. For once it was all his own.
His grip around his wand tightened as he rose to his feet, he was too still, it was unnerving, his eyes, settled on Bellatrix just as her form slipped out of the hall.
He followed, slipping out of Remus grasp. Harry was gone and Sirius dead. Her laughter echoed through the hallways, taunting him with every step.
"I killed Sirius Black---"
"I killed Sirius Black------"
Harry raised his wand, feeling power as he had never before at the tip of his fingers.
"I---"
"Crucio" Barty Crouch jr had said one had to mean it, Harry understood what he meant now. Bellatrix collapsed on the ground. It wasn't enough. She faced him once more, this time on her knees, having gathered herself up. Harry slowly rounded up on her, a smirk grew on her lips.
He would wipe it away, his wand lighting up once more, the curse at the tip of his tongue.
"I did it---" She gloated, eyes wide a mad glint in them.
The ringing in his ears grew, her words blurred together, lost their meaning.
"Crucio" Harry did not take his eyes off her, took in every twitch, every sound that left her lips, her grin grew wider,it was all teeth.
"Never knew you had it in you---" She spat out her chest heaving for air. He would have her tongue soon enough.
"All he needed was a little push -" He could feel him in waves, he seemed to be everywhere, the darkness oozing off of him, drenching everything he came in contact with. Harry suppressed a shudder, never taking his eyes of off Bellatrix.
She sat up straighter, lips splitting wider, thrumming with a new found energy just at the sight of him.
" Are you a killer Harry" Voldemort's hot breath caressed his cheek, a fleeting moment before he was once more gone.
"you right now, this boy standing in front of me, is this who you really are ?"
"I am who I've always been, scales have just fallen from my eyes." a long syllable of hisses left his lips.
This rage was unlike anything he knew, it made him want to dig his fingers into the wetness of her lungs, claw and tear until this overwhelming feeling stopped. He had never been this sure of anything
He adjusted his grip on his wands, he knew the words. Bellatrix cowered, more amused than scared. " Avada---" Her eyes widened. "Kedavra" A sudden grip on his wand forced him to lower his wand. The light was bright and blinding and yet so familiar.
He left a dark charred mark just a few inches infront of Bellatrix.
He was gasping for air, heart hammering, eyes bulging. Voldemort in all his glory stepped into his view but he had only eyes for the mark he created. The life he could have easily taken.
He had never felt this powerful.
His wand easily slipped out of his grip, Voldemort cradled it as if it were his own wand, precious to him even. He could feel his burning gaze on him.
He could feel an array of emotions wash through him, joy and amusement, fascination, glee, it overrode his own rage, the lines between them blurred once more. Harry didn't know where he started and Voldemort ended.
"With all my knowledge and intrusion, I could never entirely predict you." He could feel his voice echo through his head, the warmth of his breath ghost alongside his skin. It was to much.
"I can feed the caterpillar, I can whisper through the chrysalis, but---" He had stepped closer, one cool hand cupping his cheek. Nails dug against his skin.
"What hatches follows its own nature that is besides me"
The fireplace roared nearby but Harry was unable to pull away from Voldemort, to turn and see who had arrived.
A smile that wasn't entirely his own grew on his lips, "I know the prophecy---" Finally he met Voldemorts gaze, eyes wide, still on the high of the killing curse Harry swayed closer, his voice dropping a few octaves.
"Do you?" Voldemort realized the taunt for what it was, Harry could watch his eyes narrow, and jaw tightened as he still cradled his wand.
Bellatrix shifted away from them. His head snapped towards her, a glint of red in his eyes that made her momentarily freeze.
" Run" He hissed, his body thrumming with excitement. Killing her was not enough. He wanted to tear through her, bottle up her screams and terror, he wanted.
"Harry---"
Voldemort shifted behind him, like a shadow he wrapped around him, blinded him momentarily. Dumbledore flickered in and out of his view, the ringing returned.
Harry turned with Voldemort, one hand reaching up, wrapping around his neck before he processed the thought. He flexed his fingers around his neck and Voldemort smiled, it was a terrible sight to behold. It wasn't enough.
Someone was laughing, it could have been him, he didn't recognize the voice.
" The Aurors are on their way Tom"
"By which time I shall be gone and you left to pick the pieces up"
Voldemort met his gaze, eyes gleaming mischievously, his wand was returned to him, Harry's knees buckled. Voldemort was the only thing keeping him upright.
"Will they be able to live with what has become of you?" He pulled away from him and Harry finally collapsed, like water he slipped through his grip, the darkness remained, deeply lodged between his chest.
His scar burned but there was no accompanying pain, nothing to distract him from this rage thrumming through his veins, his fingers itched to lift his wand again, the familiar curse once more willing to leave his lips.
It wasn't enough.
Sirius was dead.
A hand settled on his shoulder. Dumbledore crouched next to him, urged him to lift his head, the slightest nudge against his chin. Harry met his gaze, Dumbledore momentarily froze at the sight of him.
"And neither can live while the other survives" Dumbledores eyes hardened, the lines in his face became more defined. Harry leaned closer towards him, the words exchanged between them were meant to be taken into their graves.
" I can see you now" The scales had been lifted and Harry was left with nothing but the truth. Everything slotted into place, all the unexplainable things, the unknown, it made sense now.
"Who else knows?"
"Just us"
"Liar" he uttered just as the Aurors entered the spacious hall. Dumbledore pulled him upwards, throwing one arm around his shoulder as he began to guide them through the masses. Harry's eyes lingered on the charred mark on the ground.
He could feel the weight of his wand in his hand and a promise at his lips.
