Work Text:
“Where are the apples?”
“Inside the pie, silly.”
Julie has no one but Poppy to thank for this. She couldn’t even butter a bun properly before she had started to ask Poppy for baking tips, which quickly escalated into Poppy practically ordering her around in the kitchen until she was able to bake a cookie without burning it.. admittedly, her work is still a little crispy around the edges, but Julie couldn’t be happier.
Wally rested his head on her shoulder, looming over her to get a closer look of the pie she pulled out of her pink little oven, decked out in heart silhouettes and floral patterns all over.
It definitely smelled like apples - if an apple was baked for just a few minutes too long.
“In.. side?” He muttered as Julie placed it on top of her table.
“But it needs to cool off first! Do you want tea in the meantime?” Julie didn’t wait for him to respond before rummaging in her cabinets, clanking of porcelain echoing through the room.
It had only been perhaps a minute, maybe, the time it took for her to grab her hibiscus tea bags, turning back around to start a kettle only to be met with Wally staring down the pie like it was the most fascinating thing in the world.
“Aren’t you impatient?” Julie giggled.
She stepped closer, then quickly realized the pie looked flat now, like a deflated balloon.
“Huh? Did..” Julie slowly peered over to Wally, who looked as merry as usual. “Did.. you..?”
“Ah, I get it now.” Wally lifted his head to her, grinning. “Thank you, honey. Aren’t you just the sweetest?” He leaned over and pinched her cheek lightly, chuckling to himself. “Don’t tell Poppy, but I think I like your baking much more.”
