“How do I walk.”
Red Son squinted at the darkened screen of his phone as he held it on its side with both hands. Hunched over the device in his red and white night-wear, he lightly bounced his leg and huffed in annoyance, sitting snuggly on MK’s bed. His miniature sized pixelated character that was supposedly him, stood idly as Red Son continued to give his phone screen a puzzled stare.
MK laughed from his position of being pressed into his side, the vibration and warmth of the noise making Red’s cheeks flush. The delivery boy held his own phone in his hands, swiping his thumb over the cracked screen, making his own character move around freely. Red Son shot him a look of bewilderment that he’d managed to solve the dilemma, attempting to mirror MK by swiping his own fingers across his phone screen, to no avail. This only made MK laugh and wheeze even harder which only prompted the demon’s hair to blast into a pillar of flames, charring the ceiling.
For context, Red Son was spending the night at MK’s apartment, and they’d finally gotten settled into bed. They would be asleep at the moment if it weren’t for MK’s sudden idea that they should engage in yet another video game after having played video games on his TV console all afternoon. But it wasn’t a game he was familiar with, like Monkey Mech. No, it was something the Noodle Boy had called… Road box? Robo socks?
Oh, wait. Roblox.
He could already tell the game would be mind-numbingly stupid.
And of course the first game that his loving boyfriend suggested was in the horror genre. Red Son was okay with horror movies, they never really scathed him. But he had no idea how he would perform being in the actual situation.
The horror game in question was based on some Japanese urban legend. That was one of MK’s interests that he’d often spend prolonged hours ranting excitedly to him about, which honestly made the demon a little nervous that he was so enthusiastic about such.. Morbid stories, no matter how fake. They had just launched the game after Red Son spent almost an hour trying to customise his virtual character to look like himself.
And in the wild battle with Roblox’s avatar customisation, he’d forgotten to ask MK how to actually play the damn game.
MK rubbed the corner of his eye as his laughter died down, immediately yelping as Red Son flicked his forehead.
“TELL ME!” Red Son shrieked, steam emitting from the tips of his hair and even his nose.
The Noodle Boy bit across his lip, shoving another round of giggles back down his throat as he showed him how to move his character.
The two made slow progression throughout the game, constantly having to stop when MK would startle and squeak at any sudden noise, hiding his face in his boyfriend’s shoulder to avoid the possibility of getting jumpscared.
“You’re rather jumpy for someone obsessed with horror.” Red Son sighed, moving his character onwards and leaving MK behind in the dark. MK quickly stumbled with his phone, desperately trying to catch up with him so he wouldn’t be left alone with the creepy ambience. So far it was alright, and somewhat boring, as Red Son had growled impatiently and urged that they switch games before it bored him to death.
MK protested that they continue, pushing his buttons further by saying he just wanted to quit because he was scared.
But then the first jumpscare arrived. That, accompanied by a loud scream, made MK jump out of his skin and elbow Red Son right in the face, making him spew out an endless chain of curses and yells while the delivery boy instantly stopped shitting himself over some pixels and went to nurse his partner back to health. The demon’s nose ended up bleeding, and MK helped him clean up along with many hushed apologies and sympathetic kisses.
For some reason, they agreed to finish the game.
“MK, what’s that noise?” Red Son glared down at his screen, turning his view behind him.
MK’s eyes widened, “Oh, fuck. She’s coming, hurry up, sprint!” He frantically clicked the sprint button and made a beeline for the opposite end of the hallway.
They both yelled as the tall woman in a white dress chased after them.
“WHY IS SHE STILL AFTER US?” Red Son shouted, gripping his phone for dear life as the chase music continued.
“I don’t kn– Shit I’m out of sprint. Do you have the key?” Noodle Boy watched nervously, sweat rolling down his temple as his stamina reached the red zone.
“No I– For crying out loud I am never playing these silly peasant games with you ever again.” Red Son gritted out as he caught up to MK’s character.
MK turned his view around, spotting an open door, “Safe room!” He yelled, Red Son inhaling sharply in response.
He quickly dashed into the small room, smiling slightly when he turned around and pressed the tiny button to shut the door right as Red Son was about to enter after him. The demon prince’s eyes widened as his character collided into the closed door, confused and terrified as his heart rate picked up rapidly.
“MK–!?” Red Son suddenly screamed at the top of his lungs when the sudden loud sound effects sounded through his phone’s speakers paired with the huge face of the woman who’d been chasing him jumpscaring him and causing his in-game character to perish.
Red Son had gotten scared so hard that he flamed up completely, scorching everything around him and coating it in black, while turning the phone in his hands into ash.
The two were silent for a moment, processing what had just happened, before MK slowly put down his own, luckily unharmed, phone and got up from his bed. He placed a hand on his boyfriend’s shoulder, breaking him out of his silence. But MK immediately recoiled when Red Son let the ash fall from his palms and fixed his enraged glare to him, growling slightly.
“You little..” Red Son launched at him, trying to tackle him to the ground but failing as MK’s reflexes acted quicker than his thoughts, dodging the sudden attack. The delivery boy laughed as Red chased him around his bedroom. “COME HERE!” Red Son shouted.
Eventually they tired themselves out, laying side by side on MK’s bed panting. They hadn’t bothered to clean the mess they made.
“Roblox sucks.” Red Son grumbled.
“You suck,” MK bit back with a smug grin.
Red Son flicked a flame at his cheek, making him giggle uncontrollably, “Okay, okay, we both suck. Oh my God.” He shot him a half-hearted glare, sticking his tongue out.
Weeks later, when Red Son received a new phone, for some odd reason he agreed to play again. This time, something a little less stressful. MK knew the perfect game.
Except he clearly didn’t.
He picked an obby.
Let’s just say Red Son yet again had to place an order for a new phone soon after.
