Work Text:

“Reiner,” Annie shook the man slightly, “C’mon wake up”

She looked down onto the couch, the older man was laying down covered by blankets. She sighed as he finally opened his eyes to look her, “Did you sleep down here again?” He muffled his response as he planted his face deeper in the pile of blankets.

She sighed, “You need to start sleeping in your bed” she said as she pulled back his blanket eliciting a disgruntled groan from the older man.

“Yes, you can grumble all you want but it’s morning now” Annie pulls up Reiner, the man’s hair in all different directions as he squinted from the bright lights, “Which means it’s time for breakfast”

“Hm” He looked up at her and Annie could see those eyes flicker with acknowledgment. He got up slowly, almost falling over before stabling himself.

“Easy now” She remarked with a soft smile on her face.

Annie grabbed Reiner’s hand as she led him to the kitchen. Armin had just finished up their food. It was a sort of oatmeal(?) some type of food that they had put together as a type of emergency meals with everything that has happened. As Annie sat Reiner down, she went over to Armin,

“I see you got him up” Armin chuckled at the man who was falling asleep upright

“Mhm. Took me awhile but I got it” She leaned her head against Armin’s shoulder, indulging ever so lightly in the man’s soft aura,

He tutted at her, slowly pushing her off, “Can’t have you falling asleep too. Go along and serve yourself and Reiner”

“Fine” She softly glared at him before getting out some bowls and filling them up. As she made it back to the table, Armin behind her with his own food, they both sat down. Reiner sitting next to Annie, while Armin was across from them.

Annie eyed the food, she could see Reiner start to wake up but she knew he wasn’t all that excited to eat. When she had woken up again and was finally reunited with her old friend she was shocked. Just awhile ago (from her point of view) she wasn’t able to even wrap her arms around him but now she could do it with ease. He lost so much weight, to her, in a blink of an eye.

As Armin began to eat, Annie started to notice Reiner getting a bit more uncomfortable. He sometimes got like this, whether it was morning or night, sometimes eating was just hard for Reiner. She would help cut up his food for him and watch him closely during these times.

She took a couple bites of her own food before getting Reiner’s spoon. Dipping the spoon into the porridge being careful of any dripping, she gently lifted the spoon towards Reiner. Annie could seem him hesitate but soon opening his mouth to take the spoonful.

She smiled softly, “Good?”

He nodded at her with a hesitant look. This wasn’t anything unusual, sometimes when everything got too big for Reiner, Annie would help him. He ate spoonfuls at time, some getting around his mouth but Annie quick to wipe it up with the spoon or napkin nearby.

The three of them eating breakfast in a peaceful silence. Reiner now less eager to take the food Annie noticed he wasn’t opening his mouth all the way, “Are you full?” She asked the man

He looked away as he nodded, he only had a bit left but the man was starting to feel full. Annie schooled her face, his meal proportions were always smaller so the fact he was a l ready full for someone his size, concerned her a bit,

“You only have a bit left,” she scooped up the last bit, “just one more bite, okay?”

Reiner looked nervous but nodded, opening his mouth for the spoonful. Eating the last bit Annie praised him for finishing his food, “Good job”

As Annie and Armin finished up their own meal, Reiner watched the two of them talk. His eyelids felt heavy as he tried to keep them open and listen to what they were saying.

Until Annie noticed, “Are you tired, Reiner?”

He nodded blearily. Armin smiled, “You ate so much, I would be sleepy too”

Annie let out a small chuckle, “You did. Let’s go have a nap, huh?”

He should’ve refused. Told them that he wanted to stay up but their soft voices, his fuzzy head, were all too much for him to process much. The thought of blankets and pillows seemed much more appealing by the minute.

Annie got him up and led him pass the couch and into his own room. He never really liked sleeping in his own room favoring the living room much more, but if Annie was going to be sleeping with him, he could feel himself calm down. As she slid back the covers she helped him get underneath the blankets before joining him.

Reiner immediately cuddling up to her chest as Annie’s hands found their way to his hair as he allowed her to rake through it gently. That fuzzy feeling invading his brain more. She chuckled softly as she watches the Older man’s eyelids start to droop,

“You did such a good job eating” She mumbled softly into hair, Reiner humming in acknowledgement before succumbing to sleep.

Annie soon fell back asleep as well, Reiner safely in her arms.

A knock on the door woke her from her nap. She groggily sat up, Armin standing in the doorframe with that soft smile she loved,

“Had a good nap?” He asked

She nodded slowly, wiping the sleep from her eyes, “Mhm. Reiner’s bed is really soft, yet he always ends up on the couch.”

Armin chuckled, “Glad to know someone likes the mattress”

She smiled at her lover before looking down at Reiner, the older man still asleep, thumb in his mouth. She sighed softly as she ruffled his hair before getting up.
