Work Text:
Four days he left his white and sterile hospital room. Four days he was the protected one of the Forgers. Last mission of agent Twilight was a success. Well, almost a full one. In the middle of action, his informant had been in trouble in Berlint darker streets, letting his body with many and sparse burning scratches.
Loid knew Franky would not be able to change his bandages everyday by himself, especially all the patches he had in his back. It was also his hidden manner to admit he was worry for him. Loid and Yor set up a place for him in their living-room, and, alternatively went on disinfecting his wounds, applying cotton straps and taking care of him in general. Even Anya was having fun playing the little nurse, giving Franky food with a little spoon, as cornflakes, yogurt and all the veggies she did not want to eat.
Indeed, she was the perfect junior doctor. Her parents offered her a doctor playset, with colourful scale model accessories and play items. To Loid, it was the best way to teach her how to downplay such events like hospital trips.
Franky was feeling dizzy. Painkillers were efficient but from breakfast to dinner, he had the sensation of being on a boat, swaying even when he was laid on the couch, staring with difficulty at the ceiling. Until he felt a small weight jumping on the mattress.
“This is a very bad injury Doctor Bond.” said in a very serious way the little girl.
Franky felt Anya wanted to play with him like before, when he ran after her in the whole apartment and throw her on the couch. But he did not had the energy anymore for now.
“Anya, please, don’t bother him, he needs to rest.” claimed a paternal voice from the kitchen.
“ I am ok. At least I wont think about pain.” Smiled Franky toward Anya.
She spilled the entire pouch of toys next to him and took several minutes to choose which one would be the more appropriate to begin her diagnosis. She grabbed a small bracelet to put it around her uncle wrist. It was too small for him, and the elastic band was constraining his skin.
“Here is your patient wristband. You should keep it as long as you are at the Forgers Hospital.” she explained.
“I don’t like being in hospital. It’s cold and food is tasteless. “responded her fake patient.
Anya seemed to be already exhausted of such a behaviour. She caught the blanket to cover Franky legs and stared at him as a thread to not complaining again. She picked up a small plastic stethoscope and with care, tried to listen to the man’s heart. She was not very sure of where the organ was located and was closer to the stomach than the heart.
“Doctor, are you sur-“ asked Franky
“Quiet! I am trying to listening.” she answered.
She stepped back, with a severe expression on her face and put back the stethoscope into the tiny suitcase. She scattered the toys to finally find what she was looking for : a round syringe with a mobile piston. When Franky discovered what she was holding in her hands, he decided he had enough energy to be a bit theatrical.
“What? A prick? I don’t want that!” he yelled.
Anya was always looking serious and added with an earnest tone of voice :
“I have no choice Mr Scruffy, this is a survival issue!”
“No I don’t want any shot! If you prick me, I am gonna cry! I want my mama!” he complained, faking warm tears.
Her play mate sighed. She went to her room and in no time came back with her Chimera plushie.
“Mam’, please calm down your son. I have to heal him” she explained to the stuffed toy.
She put the plushie with kindness on Franky torso. From the other side of the apartment, Loid was glancing at them while doing some chores. He was smiling, thinking how hospital would be if all doctors and nurses had time to be as concerned as his daughter was. Unfortunately, it was not always the case, and time resources were limited for each patient
“ Your mama is here. Now let me work.” she stated.
She took the syringe toy again and checked the body with one eye closed. Gingerly, she grabbed Franky arm, avoiding his fresh numerous scars and, paused.
“It won’t hurt, I promise.”
Anya grabbed his arm again and simply hovered his skin with the play item.
“You see? It’s over.”
In her doctor case, Yor added other accessories as animal-shaped plasters, absorbent cottons and sticking straps. She opened the box of plasters and applied with precaution a bunny one upon Franky skin.
“You have been very brave Mr Scruffy. You deserve a small reward.” She added.
Among the stuff in her pockets, there were some candies and she gave to her small patient a kind of fizzy cherry lollipop. She told him to wait for her, as she run to her father with a blank paper page.
“Papa, you are my secretary, can you write the prescription for Mr Scruffy please?” she asked.
Once she explained the whole treatment and added some drawings on the paper sheet, Loid brought it back to Franky and played the role given by her daughter.
“Doctor Anya told me to give you this. She prescribed you to eat peanuts at each meal and carrots she wont eat too.” the blonde man said.
Franky looked at the young doctor’s prescriptions and smiled.
“Don’t you think she would be a great doctor as a grown up?” he asked his friend.
“I don’t know. If she had more stellas for excellent knowledge in sciences, why not.” declared Loid.
Franky stared at the band that he still had around his wrist :
“Like father, like daughter Dr Forger.”
