Work Text:

“I am just, I am at my wits end with General Kenobi.”

Cody suddenly dropping himself down beside Kix, Jesse and himself should not have surprised Rex. Nor should his bemoaning about his Jedi. Yet, for some reason, he hadn’t expected it, Maybe because the Five oh First has only been with the Two Twelfth on this planet for a matter of hours and he had no idea what Kenobi could have done in that time to incur his brother’s ire.

“He lost his lightsaber again?” Jesse asked without looking up from his data pad or even moving his head off of Kix’s knee.

“No. Not within the last few cycles at least.”

“He flirting with Seps again?” Rex teased, which earned him a glare.

“No. At least not where I have been able to notice.”

“Is he befriending more wild animals that can eat him?” Kix wondered and received a shake of his head.

“Not since that acid spitting lizard thing, no.”

“Then what is he doing, Cody?” Rex questioned with a sigh. “We could keep listing all the idiot things your jetii does, but we would be here forever.”

Cody glared at him again before sighing heavily. “He just won't take care of himself! I have no idea when the last time he slept was. You know what he told me when I asked him? ‘The Force will sustain me my dear Commander’!”

“That was a pretty good impression.” Jesse remarked and Cody shot him an unimpressed look.

“Not the point! He needs to sleep. It's far past negligent now. He is going to keel over and turn into dust.”

“Can Jedi do that?”

“Jesse.” Kix admonished softly before looking over to Cody. “I know how to get him to go to bed.”

All three of them turned wide, shocked eyes on him. Rex would have thought he was lying had he been any other trooper. No one knew how to make Kenobi sleep, not even Hypo. Well, no. According to Cody, Hypo’s idea was to, well, use a hypo. But he was pretty sure that didn’t count.

“No, you don't.” Cody said firmly.

“No, really. I do. Where is Kenobi now?”

“Insisting on helping build camp. Which is a freaking shinies assignment.”

Kix nodded and brought his comm up. After a few clicks, a tiny form of Ahsoka appeared, a grin on her face.

“Hey, Kixster! What's up?”

“Remember how you helped me with General Skywalker a few weeks ago?”

“Sure do!”

“Can you do the same with General Kenobi?”

Her grin grew and she was suddenly eagerly nodding. “Sure can! Gonna rope Skyguy into it too!”

“Into what?” Anakin’s voice suddenly sounded before his head was poking into view. “Oh, hey Kix. What do you need us for?”

“Gonna trick Master Obi-Wan into sleeping.” Ahsoka answered before Kix could.

“He not sleeping again ?” he asked.

“No, Skywalker, he isn't. Cody replied tightly.

“Don’t worry Codes, we’ve got this!”

Ahsoka hung up and Cody shot Kix a look dripping in disbelief. “It doesn’t matter how strong they are in the Force, or how tired Obi-Wan is, a Force trick won't work.”

“Oh, don’t worry.” Kix assured him. “No Force trick.”

He nudged Jesse off of his knee, earning a dramatic whine which he ignored, and then gestured towards Cody and Rex. “Come on. I’ll show you what my secret is.”

Rex exchanged curious but dubious looks with Cody and then followed Kix. The three of them reached the tent Kenobi was helping put up just in time to see Ahsoka and Anakin approach him.

Kenobi’s eyes lit up and he gave them both a soft smile. “Anakin, Ahsoka. It's good to see you both. I know how hard your last battle was. I’m sorry you didn’t get the break you deserve.”

Ahsoka stopped at his side and then leaned forward to rest her forehead against his shoulder. “It was bad, Master Obi-Wan.”

Ahsoka wasn’t wrong there, it wasn’t a good battle with far too many loses and far too little rest. As far as Rex knew, though, both his General and Commander had gotten a decent amount of rest on the trip to their current assignment. Was their act for Kenobi entirely just played up, or had they lied to him about feeling better?

He was going to have to go with lied, because the exhaustion coming from both of them was too real to fake. He would have been annoyed, had whatever was happening before his eyes not been happening.

“I know, dear one.” Kenobi said as he wrapped his arm around Ahsoka’s shoulders and kissed her montral. “And I am sorry.”

“Will you come lay down with us, master?” Anakin asked softly. “‘Soka and I are exhausted and we just, we’d like the reminder that you’re okay too.”

Kenobi’s entire posture turned soft and he reached out his hand to rest against Anakin’s shoulder. “Of course, Ani. I can think of nothing better than taking a nap with my padawan and grandpadawan.”

"It'll be the best nap ever." Anakin informed him with a grin. "Ahsoka can purr."

"Master!" she exclaimed, ducking her head further against Kenobi's chest, who chuckled before glancing over to the three shinies he was helping.

“Would you gentlemen mind too terribly?”

“No, sir!” One replied eagerly. “Go comfort your family!’

“Get some comfort too, sir.” Another replied. “We’ve had a few hard battles ourselves.”

“You as well, my friends.” Kenobi told them with a kind smile before gently leading Anakin and Ahsoka away.

“No way.” Cody whispered. “There is no way that worked.”

“Jedi are like us with the cadets and shinies.” Kix explained. “General Skywalker would ignore his needs for hours, but the second the Commander suggests she needs him, needs his help, he is right there. I figured even General Kenobi couldn’t be immune to that. Especially not when he has two urging him to rest.”

“They just had to be there!” he exclaimed. “All they had to do was look like sad, tired tookas and he is letting them pull him to bed?”

“Well, I don’t think it was an act.” Rex assured his brother. “I’m pretty sure this nap will actually benefit all three of them.”

“Holy shit.” Cody breathed out before asking in all seriousness, “How do I go about getting Obi-Wan a Padawan?”
