Flowers for You

Summary:

Dad gets Mom flowers to prove how much he loves her, and in a return she gives him a kiss. Derek decides he needs to do the same, when he meets a boy on the playground.

Notes:

For the Sterek Weekly prompt: Prove. Just a bunch of child Sterek fluffiness.

Work Text:

Derek was sitting on the floor of their den, making his toy truck run over Cora’s dolls. Every time he did, he made engine noises with his mouth, sometimes letting his growl out to emphasize the engine.

Every time, Cora yelled at him to stop hurting her dolls.

It was great.

Derek was just revving his engines again when the front door opened - their dad coming home from work. Derek smiled at his dad, happy he was home. Dad held a bunch of flowers in his hand, which he used to wave a greeting to Derek.

Dad didn’t come into the den to say hi, though, heading in the direction of the kitchen. Derek rose to follow him, wanting Dad to give him a bear hug and swing him around, like he normally did.

Derek really liked it when Dad did that.

When Derek stopped in the kitchen doorway, it was to see Dad giving Mom the bunch of flowers. Her face lit up, pure joy soaking through the room.

“You shouldn’t have,” Mom said, accepting the flowers before placing them on the counter and reaching out to Dad.

“Proves how much I love you,” Dad answered with a grin. He gathered her up in his arms and kissed her, both of them smiling as they embraced.

Derek couldn’t help but smile himself, happy pheromones radiating through the air. He ran over, flinging his arms around their hips to join in on their embrace.

A few days later, Derek ran around the park, wishing that Mom would let him practice being a wolf in public. He wasn’t allowed to do that here, though, so he contented himself with running around really really fast instead.

On his third lap around the park, Derek smelled something really nice. He slowed down, following his nose until he found the sandbox.

There was a boy playing there, a few years younger than he was. He smelled happy and sunny and nice, and Derek decided right then that he liked him a lot.

He thought back to Mom and Dad, and the flowers, and turned around abruptly, searching through the park.

Over by the fence line was a whole patch of yellow dandelions, so Derek ran over there as fast as he could (which was super speedy fast). He plucked a handful of the flowers out of the ground, doing his best to shake the dirt off the end as he bunched them up in his hand.

Determined and successful, Derek marched back over to the sandbox. He sat down in it, right next to the sweet smelling boy.

The boy looked up at him, shovel of sand still in hand. He had moles on his cheek and smelled like sunshine.

“Hi!” the boy said happily. “My name is Stiles, want to play with me?”

Derek felt his inner wolf howl with joy and he nodded. “I’m Derek. I picked you these.” Derek held out the dandelions, letting Stiles take them from him gently.

“You picked these for me?” Stiles asked him, voice awed as he looked between the flowers and Derek. “There’s gotta be a million of them!”

Derek preened. “I picked them all for you, to prove how much I like you. Now you gotta give me a kiss thank you.”

Stiles looked over at him, eyes wide. “Really?”

Derek shrugged. “That’s what Mom does when Dad brings her flowers. She kisses him thank you. And gives him a big hug.” Derek scooted closer to Stiles, eager. “And I brought you flowers, so you hafta say thank you.”

Stiles nodded, taking the situation as seriously as a little boy could. “Of course. Thank you.” He leaned in to kiss Derek innocently on the lips before throwing his arms around Derek’s shoulders in a hug. Derek’s wolf was ecstatic as he hugged back, nose buried in Stiles’s neck, deciding in that moment that Stiles was perfect.
