Work Text:

Bobby was slain by Husk

Jaiden could not stop staring at the sentence in front of him, wide-eyed, she felt like her heart stopped– no, it was like her heart was ripped out of her chest. Bobby just lost a life, her son has one single life left, all because she didn't put her foot down and say no.

Roier: NOOO

Roier: BOBBY

Roier: JAIDEN YOU DIED NEAR THE COORDS?

Jaidenhere: yes

A thought said she has spoilt him too much. Jaiden knew that it was her fault because she could not save Bobby when he was surrounded by monsters on that airship. She was not skilled enough, and did not have strong armor because her stupid fucking self didn't have any Iron, which she couldn't even find, for the love of the Gods on that stupid island!

Weak. She was too weak to save even herself as she fell from that ship, her life taken by the zombies. Leaving Bobby on the ground, waiting to be revived by his mother, the one he could only hope for at the moment. And Jaiden failed him. She failed herself. She failed Roier.

Oh, Roier would be pissed off by this.

That guy has done a better job than Jaiden at this parenting a dragon egg stuff. He had more health, a better armor suit than her, a better fighter and was a good father to Bobby. She had no doubt leaving Bobby with Roier, Bobby could even survive on himself most of the time. All in all, Roier was a perfect parent. And Jaiden was a failure because Bobby lost one life.

Roier: JAIDEN YOU KNOW WHERE IS BOBBY?

Jaiden blinked her eyes multiple times and was brought back to reality. Stupid. She still hasn't found Bobby, it's not the time to be emotional.

Jaidenhere: he was on the airship

Jaidenhere: like really DEEP in the ship

Jaiden wiped her face to get rid of the tears and ran downstairs quickly that she almost tripped on her feet, got some bread, made some toasts, and crafted a boat. If she's gonna row back 2000 meters back to the ship with little food and no armor, she would fucking do it. All for Bobby. All for her son.

Jaidenhere: im on my way

Roier: OKOK

She died again, in the middle of the sea, slain by a...

"A SKELEWAG?" Jaiden watched her corpse on the boat. "Fuck you Skelewag, you bitch."

Bobby wandered near the wall, not feeling sure where he should go. He was feeling a little lost and dizzy a bit, maybe it was the effect of getting revived by Quackity. He wasn't sure, and didn't want to care about it now because he wanted to find his mom first.

"BOBBY?"

The egg turned to see Jaiden standing in shock before him. He ran to her and gave her the tightest hug on her legs, not hearing the words she was saying at the moment. His mind too scrambled up to come up with a single thought right now.

He was just relieved that his mom is safe now.

"It's okay now, Bobby. You're safe."

Bobby eventually told Jaiden about his extra life and he couldn't even be more happier to see how relieved Jaiden was. "Oh, thank God, Bobby! Fuck, I was so devastated when- The monsters- Everything was a nightmare!"

It was an awful night for everyone.

Jaidenhere: Bobby is here with me

Jaidenhere: back at the house

They both decided to go to Roier instead, back where they also died on the airship. Bobby took out his motorboat so they could use it to arrive there faster and Jaiden let him drive. "You are always a good driver, Bobby. I trust you."

It was reassuring, Bobby liked that his mom could rely on an egg like him.

They passed Jaiden's corpse on a boat in the middle of the ocean, and Jaiden spoke up when she noticed his frown. "The sea is a dangerous place, Bobby. Make sure you take care of yourself."

Bobby wanted to ask his mom if she was okay after all that.

"Me? I'm fine, Bobby. I'm doing good, no need to worry."

There was a flicker of uncertainty in her eyes, Bobby could see it through the crack of his eggshell. "We need to meet Roier and save him as soon as we can!"

Mama is a bad liar.

Roier ran back beneath the airship to see Jaiden on the ground, injured.

"JAIDEN!" He charged his sword toward the wither skeleton and revived back Jaiden on the ground. "Fuck! Fuck! Jaiden, are you okay???"

"I- I- I'm fine–"

"Run now, run! Up on the ship first!"

He swam beneath Jaiden, just so he could keep her safe from here. Fuck, he just wanted her to stay safe. "You good, Jaiden? You okay???"

"Yeah, I'm just hungry," Jaiden chuckled. Roier shuffled through his inventory and his backpack, "Here here, I have some more food."

"Gracias," Jaiden said quietly while munching up the toasts she grabbed from her other corpse's inventory. Roier watched her, kept his eyes on her as he was panting for air as he too regenerate his health. Bobby came to them, good as new, and Roier couldn't be more grateful to Quackity for the extra life for his son.

Fuck, that was horrible. He hated that nightmare.

"Oh, fuck. Fuck. That was shit!" Roier looked at Jaiden again, eyes frowning deep. "Jaiden, what was that?!!" He exploded without realizing it. Well, the panic got to him and his anxiety level was at maximum. "You died three times!"

"Hah, yeah. This sucks, dude," Jaiden seemed okay about that fact. Actually, no. Roier knew she was pretending to be okay. They've lived together for a month and he's seen the way she act. He could see right through Jaiden, now.

"And- And Bobby died once but that's fine, he still has two lives."

"Wait, what?"

"It doesn't matter, Bobby is fine now! But you, Jaiden! You died THREE times in a few hours. You died twice yesterday– also burned yourself alive. Bobby was so worried about you, Jaiden!" Roier closed his eyes to pause and inhaled slowly, before looking back at Jaiden, "And I was also worried about you."

Jaiden's head hung low. Roier felt a pang of guilt for blowing up and letting his emotions take him over. He sighed and kneeled behind Jaiden to inspect her almost broken wings. The left one, the feathers are mostly gone, was because of the explosion of the wall. The right one which was previously alright and functioning, looked the same as the second one because of the fire the other day. "I was worried because I wasn't there to save you," His eyes took a glimpse of the burned scar on Jaiden's neck and he was sure the scar went down her back as well.

He gently cradled Jaiden's wings to which the woman winced in pain. "I- I think I also broke my wings..." There was a murmur.

"Oh, Jaiden..." Roier let them go and went to sit in front of Jaiden now, whose head still facing her feet. He watched Bobby slowly climbing onto Jaiden's lap, trying to comfort her. He could hear sniffles and see her sobbing. "Jaiden, look at me."

Jaiden's head was raised and Roier stared at the tears streaming down her face. "Oh, shit. Jaiden. Jaiden, it's okay. Hey, it's okay.. You're okay now, Bobby is here, I am here. We are all good now. Jaiden, I-" Great, now Roier could feel himself crying too. He tried putting his hands on Jaiden's knees as he leaned in to comfort her further, "Please, stop crying. I'm sorry I was mad at you. I was just worried, you know? Bobby was so broken when you were badly hurt. And I was too, Jaiden. My heart, is- is- is broken, you know? But- But you are safe now and, me and Bobby are happy for you!" Roier wiped Jaiden's tears with his hand when Jaiden laughed a bit. "Jaiden?"

"I am such a burden, aren't I?"

"Ey! Ey! No! No no no no," Roier shook Jaiden's shoulders, "Jaiden! No, you are wrong!"

Bobby put down a sign: "You're a great mom Jaiden :)"

Roier nodded, "Si! Bobby is correct! You're the best mom for Bobby!"

"I am the only mom on this island, I believe."

"Ey! Still you're the best!" Roier gave her a thumbs up with his toothy grin. Jaiden smiled sadly and sighed heavily, "Still, I failed you guys... And I'm- I'm sorry," Her voice broke again and she sensed another breakdown coming too soon. "Shit, Bobby didn't deserve that. I'm terribly sorry, Bobby."

Their son hugged Jaiden who hugged him back, muttering words to comfort the baby egg. Roier rubbed Jaiden's back soothingly as Jaiden sobbed again with Bobby. "It's okay, Jaiden. We are all safe here. Bobby still has two lives. And I am right here for you, for us," Roier kept telling her. Then, when Bobby was done, Roier patiently waited before asking, "Do you want my hug as well?"

Jaiden teared up again when she felt Roier's strong arms surround her for the biggest hug she's ever received since being on this island. It felt so warm... and she felt safe for a moment. She felt so small like this.. This family was such a happy place for her and she's more than glad to have both Roier and Bobby in her life.

"From now on, Jaiden." Roier began saying, "I will take care of you and make sure you are always safe. I will find a cure for your wings, make the best armor for you, and give you extra health so you won't die easily. And Bobby won't lose you again. I will make sure of that, Jaiden. I promise."

Jaiden buried her head in Roier's neck and sniffled, "Thank you, Roier."

"Anything for my family."

A few minutes later, Bobby put down a sign where both parents could see it that wrote: "When can we go home?"
