Drunk Walk Home

Summary:

Donnie took in a deep breath.
Inhaling the smooth air.
Filling their lungs with oxygen so sweet.

They were never going to take existing fully and wholly for granted ever again.

Not after what she did.

Not after that fateful night.

Or

I got pissed at canon for not addressing the fact that Donnie literally DIED at the hands of someone they loved.

Chapter 1: Chiquitita pt. 1

Chapter Text

Chiquitita tell me what’s wrong

Leo padded though the dark lair’s living room towards Donnie’s lab.

Her feet touching the cold stone floor in neat little steps.

You’ve been enchained by your own sorrow.

It had been three days since Donnie had last come out of their lab and Leo had just about enough. Opting in a last ditch effort to pry her brother out of his lab, kicking and screaming if needed.

In your eyes there’s no hope for tomorrow

Leo opened the garage door to find her brother sitting in a chair, curled up into a ball , staring at nothing. Their once bright, intelligent eyes were now dull and empty, void of anything that was there before.

How I hate to see you like this

How Leo hated to see them like this.

Lost.

Scared.

Alone.

Broken.

Anger filled Leo’s senses, drowning her heart and her mind in twisted rage. It was all her  fault. She   was the one who did this.

There’s no way you can deny it

There was no way Leo could deny it.

April had broken Leo’s little brother.

She had torn his heart and soul to shreds, both literally and figuratively, until there was nothing but a hollow shell left.

I can see that you’re oh, so sad so quiet

Leo took a tentative step towards Donatello. “Hey Donnie…” Leo said.

Silence.

Leo swallowed dryly and opened her mouth. Her next sentence jumbled out in a sloppy mess of mixed emotions. “I- I got you some food. Pizza, actually. Hawaiian, y-your favorite….!”

There was a moment of silence before Donnie shifted in their chair, turning to look at Leo. “I’m not hungry.” They said quietly, their rust colored eyes lacking the light of brilliant genius Leo was accustomed to seeing.

It sent a pang of sadness to Leo’s heart.

Chiquitita tell me the truth, I’m a shoulder you can cry on

Leo walked over to her brother and put a hand on his shoulder. “Do you want to talk about it?” She asked gently.

Donnie looked up at her. Leo moved her steady hand from his shoulder to his cheek.

That was all it took for them to break.

He rushed forward, nearly knocking over his chair in the process, and latched onto  his sister and sobbed. Leo wrapped her arms around Donnie and they sunk to the cold stone floor. Donnie only clinging tighter as Leo rubbed soothing circles on his carapace.

“Sh-she w-was my b-best friend!” Donnie wailed. “H-how could sh-she- how could she do th-th-that?”

Your best friend, I’m the one you can rely on

“I don’t know Dee…It’s- it’s complicated, she was being controlled by the crystal. You know that.” Leo said, not really sure she should be defending the bitch.

You were always sure of yourself

It’s- it’s because of me, is-isnt it?” Donnie said between gulping sobs. “I was too annoying….sh-she didn’t like m-me- didn’t like me ha-having a crush on her. She h-ha-hated me because of that.”

If it were possible, Leo’s heart would’ve broken further. “Oh, no, Donnie, it’s not because of you. It- you’re the most perfect turtle in the world.” Leo said.

Donnie didn’t respond, they just sobbed further into Leo’s shoulder. Their tears turning their mask into an uncomfortable wet mess.
Leo didn’t mind, as long as she could hold her little brother close, she was fine.

Now I see you’ve broken a feather.

April did more than scatter Donnie’s body, she outright shattered all the confidence that Donnie had been accumulating over the years. All the self-doubt, all the lingering self hatred, all the resentment towards being a mutant came rushing back. Stronger than ever.

I hope we can patch it up together

Leo hoped she could help Donnie put the broken pieces of them back together.

That she could- she could fix them.

Chiquitita, you and I know

Leo could fix them. Leo would fix them.

No matter what it took.

How the heartaches come and they go and the scars they're leaving

She would heal him with slow mantras and healing hands and kind words and careful movements. She would wipe away the scars in Donnie’s head and heart.

You'll be dancing once again and the pain will end
You will have no time for grieving

She would make sure that Donnie would have no contact with the damned ginger, and she would make sure that Donnie would recover and go back to their old self.
Donnie will be building their silly little machines once again and their pain will end. And they will have no time for sadness.

Leo will fix her brother.
