Before We Die

Summary:

Ed finds himself in a dungeon. And he knows, he is about to die.

Notes:

This drabble is part of the Kiss Challenge. I am sorry for the spam. But it felt more right to upload them seperately. (Also, yes, you can sent in more asks/requests.)

The prompt for this one was A Kiss, because they are running out of time for Ed/Xenk and came from Udaberri.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Admittedly, this was not good.

Ed had made a lot of plans, when it came to getting to the loot at the end of the freaking dungeon, but none of it had involved lava slowly rising up, while they could to nothing but try and find higher ground.

“Do something!” he howled at Xenk, because they had gotten separated from everyone else.

“I do not know, what I am supposed to do,” Xenk replied, matter-of-factly.

Once more Edgin was forced to climb up to a higher rock, literally clinging to a wall. “Well, you are the big paladin hero. Think of something.”

“I have tried and failed to think of something.” Xenk reached out to pull him onto a larger rock, that allowed them both to stand, while the lava was maybe two yards underneath them.

Ed could already feel the heat nearly melting his clothing, his skin.

This was not how he had imagined to die. Not at all, considering how close they were standing. He looked at Xenk, who seemed surprisingly unphased by the promise of a quickly nearing and certainly rather painful death. Because he was this stupid Mister Perfect, of course, unphased by anything. Other than Ed, who really, really wanted not to die.

But Ed’s heart hated him as well – or maybe it was his mind or something. Because standing here like this, he realized, how he had never been quite so close to the other man. Well, they were going to die anyway, he thought, and pressed his lips onto Xenk’s lips.

For once, it seemed, that the perfect paladin had no idea how to react. He did not get around to it, either, as a moment later the lava hardened.

“You alright?” Doric’s voice echoed from somewhere far away. “Simon found the switch!”
