“Oh, no, no, no!” Ed was panting, as he ran down the street. He knew he was already out of time. He knew it. But he had at least to try.
Being the idiot, that he was, he had not even thought of saddling a horse. Instead, he was running down the cobble stone road, in a desperate attempt to somehow still make it. He was an idiot. And absolute idiot to allow it to come this far!
Where was he? Where was that stupid, perfect paladin now? Ed looked around, hoping to catch a gaze on that white steed the guy was riding. Because of course that man needed a perfect white horse and all of that.
Oh, it did not matter. It was already too late. Edgin knew it. He had waited to long with his reply and now Xenk was gone.
Breathless, he stopped. Leaning forward, his hands on his knees as he tried to clear his mind. Why, oh, why had he waited so darn long? Why had he not come up with an answer before?
Because he was a coward. Of course. He knew he was a coward. Too afraid to allow something new to come from this. Too afraid to face his own silly feelings. What a great bard he was, not even really honest with himself.
He jerked, when a strong hand grabbed his shoulder.
“Edgin.” As always, the man was just pure perfection. His cloth and hair so orderly.
“What… What are you still doing here?” Ed asked and stared.
A gentle smile. “I got… delayed. For just a bit. Were you looking for me?”
“I was.” Ed drew in a deep breath, before standing up properly. “I have your answer.”
“You do?” the paladin asked.
Ed just nodded and kissed him.
