What Would I Do?

Work Text:

“Are you still here with me, Noah?” A soft voice echoed through the brunette’s ears. The sound of buzzing reduced the boy’s attention from his partner. Everything his eyes landed on, it blurred. “Noah, honey? What did I tell you about the drinking..” his partner said with a disappointed tone. Noah’s focus went to the familiar face. “What made you drink again?” The text messages. A choked cry escaped his throat, remembering what his brother messaged him.

Stay by my side, eternally

Nancy swept her partner into an embrace. The other sobbed onto her shoulder, almost calming down by the whiff of her soft scent of her perfume. “Please..don’t leave me alone.” Noah sobbed out to her, his hands grasping onto her coat as his glassy eyes stared into hers. “I can’t be alone with my thoughts. You..help me through it.” Nancy stared at him, lost at words. What to say? She can’t skip days from her job, and she definitely also can’t let her boyfriend drink himself to death. Worry drowns upon her face. Maybe nothing should be said.

All she could do was hold him close, letting him cry his heart out, even if she has no clue what about. Still, her heart aches for his pain, alcohol lets out his fear and sadness, the things she doesn’t see nor hear when he’s sober.

Noah clings harder onto her sleeves, his emotions getting him down to his lowest. All he wanted to do was fix things between his brother and himself. So much can be said, but his words gets pushed away every time. Motivation and determination was drained out from the moment he tried. He will never be forgiven by his own brother, never. After all the apologies he gave out, all the hard work he wanted to do to fix their relationship, none of it was good enough to even bandage the wounds that were done. Alex was still hurting, he should’ve waited more.

Nancy took his partner to their room and onto their bed. Noah wanted her next to him. She wanted to shower, but she put him first. In his fragile state, she needs to be there for him, she never sees this side of him. As she makes her way beside him, Noah is already reaching for her waist, squishing his face to her hip. Nancy chuckled at his clingy-self. She takes off her boots and her layered clothing, leaving her body with just her casual clothes. “You’re so clingy, Noah. Want me to read you a bedtime story or what?” She jokes to her boyfriend, her hands running through his soft, brown hair. “Don’t tease me, Nanceeee…!” He whines like a child, as if he wasn’t just a mess a minute ago.

Nancy closes her eyes and rubs her partner’s shoulder to sleep.
