Wizard Only Spaces

Summary:

"My name is Salazar Slytherin and contrary to the propaganda that's been used to blacken my name I am not a bigot. I simply do not believe that mudbloods should be allowed into Wizard only spaces. Why is that such a controversial idea?"

Notes:

The idea for this came to me while watching the Contrapoints video "The witch trials of J.k Rowling". I've made no attempt to be accurate to how someone from Salazar's day would speak. For the purposes of this fanfiction the term Wizard is a gender neutral term.

Work Text:

My name is Salazar Slytherin and contrary to the propaganda that’s been used to blacken my name I am not a bigot, I simply do not believe that mudbloods should be allowed into Wizard Only spaces. Why is that such a controversial position? My fellow founders refuse to accept the fact that these so called “muggleborn wizards” are just muggles trying to invade Wizard Spaces. Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff want to put your precious pureblood children at risk by allowing these filthy mudbloods into our school and treating them like real wizards.

Godric Gryffindor keeps insisting that “muggleborn wizards are wizards” and like a coward has refused to debate the issue with me, claiming their rights are not up for debate. He always the politically correct term “muggleborn wizard” as though they were something other than muggles in wizards clothes who have usurped the magic of real wizards. Yes I believe they have usurped the magic of real wizards. Magic is naturally biological and hereditary, muggles having it makes no sense is an obvious perversion of the natural order. Helga Hufflepuff says it is natural and that “muggleborn wizards have always existed", but I call bullshit on her obvious historical revisionism. I don't remember there being any mudbloods around when I was growing up, this is clearly a recent phenomenon. Hufflepuff suggested I might have met some and not realized "maybe people you thought were muggles just hiding magic and passing as such, or maybe some wizards you met just didn't tell you they had muggle parents.". The whole idea of "passing" is a joke, I'm insulted she thinks someone as cunning as me wouldn't be able to sniff out a mudblood.

I expected much better of my good friend Godric Gryffindor. He’s felt my pain but still chose to betray me. I’ve known him since I was 11 years old, both of us recently orphaned, just like me his parents were killed by witch hunters. We’ve spent the hardest years of our lives together, fleeing from angry mobs and narrowly escaping being burned at the stake. He’s been a victim of anti-magic violence so why is he willing to let these predatory infiltrators from the muggle world into Hogwarts? I don’t understand how he could go through all of that and come out the other side not understanding the importance of young wizards having a place to grow up and learn in peace.

I hoped that Rowena Ravenclaw must be wise enough to see my point. I'd hoped she'd be wise enough to see the folly in letting mudbloods into our school and that she'd be able to talk some sense into Gryffindor, but agrees with the idea and claimed “statistically speaking, muggleborn wizards are the ones most at risk of being victims of anti-magic violence”. I don’t believe that for a second and even if I did it’s still not relevant. Even if they need to come here to survive, why should that mean they deserve to be let in? The existence of mudbloods is a perversion of the natural order and the sooner that error is corrected the better.

I wish the other founders would take my concerns seriously. Won’t somebody please think of the children?
