Chapter Text
Tranquil. That would be the word to describe the Kingswood. It was like a scene from a fairytale. Birdsong filled the air and cute little bunnies were curled up just waiting for a beautiful princess or prince to come skipping into the clearing with their own song filling the air. Shame a scream filled the air instead.
‘What the seven hells is that?’
What followed was long suffering sighs and ‘It’s a squirrel, Uncle Egg. Just a squirrel.’
Still clinging to Jace Aegon let out a nervous chuckle.
‘I knew that. Just wanted to see what you three would do.’
‘Um, Aegon I think it’s safe to let go of me now’ said Jace, whose face was getting increasingly red the longer the older prince held on to his doublet. With another nervous chuckle Aegon let go.
‘So this is our punishment’, walking around the clearing Aemond Targaryen was a striking figure turning the fairytale aesthetic of the woods into something darker especially when he stopped next to his younger nephew. Lucerys was already crouched on the floor trying to coax a baby rabbit to him with coos. ‘What is father thinking?’
‘I don’t think Grandsire meant it as a punishment more us bonding. He did say he hoped this experience would mend what has been broken between us’ Jace answered as he searched through the packs that one of the Cargyll twins had just laid down. ‘We got along as children’, then meeting Aemond’s glare, ‘Some of the time.’
‘What about poison ivy, bears, bandits, hm?’
‘Don’t be a worrywort brother. We have the Cargylls, and you and our nephew can handle a sword. We’re going to be fine.’
‘They’re not going to be fine’
‘Baela! Don’t me so negative. They may surprise us. What do you think Helaena?’
The older princess looked up from her embroidery with a smile, ‘Oh they will certainly surprise us.’
