Chapter Text

Dream gazed down at the school of psychedelic fish that swam around his throne room.

“My sister?” he queried. The fish swirled more and more tightly, as if they were going down a drain. As they reached the floor, they coalesced into a young woman, dressed in layers of colourful clothing, whose hair colour cycled slowly through the rainbow as her green and blue eyes stared back at him.

“I have a thing that I made. But it is not mine. I think it belongs to you, Brother.” Suddenly she was holding the hand of a surly preteen, pulling them out from behind her to show to Dream. Their hair was two-toned blue, and their clothing looked as hodge-podge, if not as colourful, as her own. They scowled up at Dream.

The embodiment of the collective unconscious looked down on the embodiment of the collective consciousness. This was going to be interesting.

“Yes, I believe you are correct. What are they called?”

“Well, I called them Social Media. I was just playing around, you know, it wasn’t supposed to happen. But they got to a certain size and then this happened!” she gestured at the young person standing between them. “And you know I can’t take care of a child. It’s terrible. I have such a headache. But I think they belong to you.”

“Come here, then.” Dream reached out to his colourful shadow, his young opposite number, his new surly ward, and wondered how he was going to explain this to Hob.
