“This is so incredibly stupid. I’m never going to find a boyfriend here!”
“Well not with that kind of attitude you’re not,”
Buck rolls his eyes, and he looks over at his best friend, Josh. “I didn’t even want to come, you’re the one who dragged me out here in the first place, thank you very much,”
“Because,” Josh begins, pointing a finger at Buck. “You have been complaining to me for weeks about how no one on Grindr catches your attention, that all guys want is sex. So, I thought that it’d be a good idea to bring you to a gay bar to meet someone. I’m just being a good best friend, and you know it.” He sticks his tongue out at Buck.
“Stick your tongue out at me again and I’ll pull it out of your mouth,” Buck warns, glaring at Josh.
“Ooh, we’re getting feisty now. I love feisty Buck,” Josh says with a grin.
“Oh my God. You are so annoying. Why am I even friends with you?” Buck whines.
“Because no one else at dispatch wants to put up with your high maintenance ass,” Josh says, and he looks over at Buck. “I’m just kidding. You know I love you.”
Buck scoffs, before glancing around the room. “So, how do I even find someone? I mean, you’re the expert here. You go to gay bars all the time. I’ve never been to a gay bar to look for dates.”
“I’m not an expert , you big oaf,” Josh huffs. “I just, you gotta look around…”
“Look around? That’s your big advice?” Buck whines. “You are no help whatsoever.”
“I dragged you out of the house, didn’t I?” Josh retorts.
“I was much happier and less stressed at my house,” Buck argues. “Now I’m stressed and panicked.”
“Then have a drink and calm yourself down, and then go out and dance for a bit. Someone will come up to you eventually,” Josh says with a shrug of his shoulders. “You’ve got this, Buck. I have faith in you.”
“Well, I’m glad one of us does,” Buck mumbles. He heads over to the bar, ignoring Josh’s cheers. Buck orders himself a beer. He looks over once he has his beer, and finds Josh has already made it onto the dancefloor. Buck chuckles, shaking his head as he watches his best friend act a fool.
Buck’s definitely more shyer, and he can’t seem himself acting like that until he’s had a few drinks.
After nearly an hour of sitting around, waiting, and slowly losing hope, Buck finally gets up to leave. He has no idea where Josh is at this point, and he’s honestly upset that his friend would abandon him when he’s the one who dragged Buck out in the first place. Buck doesn’t even want to be here.
“Have a good night, lovely,”
Buck looks over at the bartender, and gives the woman a polite smile. “Thanks,” he says, and he’s about to turn around to leave, but he stops when his eyes land on a man. Buck blinks, because that is one of the most gorgeous men Buck has ever laid his eyes on, and Buck wants him.
“What are you waiting for?” Buck startles at the sudden voice, and then he looks over at the bartender. She chuckles. “Go get him, cowboy.” Buck looks over to where the man was, and his eyes widen when he sees that the man is no longer in the same spot. Buck looks frantically around, and is instantly relieved when he sees the man heading towards the bathroom.
Buck instantly starts heading towards the bathroom, and is about to follow him in, but he stops. “No, Buck. That would be weird. Definitely weird. You can’t just- or can I?” He bites his lip as he stands there, silently debating to himself if he wants to walk into the bathroom. He’s never been brave when it comes to dating, but maybe Josh is right. Maybe it’s time Buck stops sitting around and doing nothing about it.
Buck finally shakes his head and walks into the bathroom, just as one of the bathroom doors opens, and out walks the man Buck previously had his eyes on. Buck’s eyes widen in surprise. “Hi,” he squeaks out.
The man looks up, and he raises his eyebrows at Buck. “Hi?” He replies back in confusion, before walking over to the sink to wash his hands. Buck doesn’t move an inch, only watching the man. So when the man turns around again and faces Buck, the man still seems confused. “Uhm, may I help you?”
“What?” Buck asks, frowning slightly.
“You’re kind of staring at me, dude, and it’s kind of creepy. Do you want something?”
“I’m Buck.” Buck spits out, before cursing out loud to himself. “Shit. I mean, uh… damnit, look, I’m really bad at this. My best friend dragged me here against my will and I don’t really know what I’m doing but you're really hot and I- I probably blew it now so I’m just gonna… I’m gonna go,” Buck mumbles, turning to exit the bathroom, but he stops when he’s suddenly pulled back by his wrist. “Uhm…?”
“You are kind of bad at this,” the man chuckles.
“Thanks. That really boosted my confidence, dude,” Buck groans.
“But, I think you’re cute so I’ll let it slide this time. My name’s Eddie,” he introduces himself, slowly letting go of Buck’s wrist. “So, your friend dragged you here, huh?”
Buck sighs, and crosses his arms against his chest. “He must have gotten tired of me complaining about my non-existent love life, so he finally dragged me here and then just left me on my own,”
“Is he still here?” Eddie asks curiously.
“Uh, I think so? I saw him a little while ago, but I-” Buck stops when suddenly Eddie’s lips are on his, and before he pulls away, Eddie is pulling away. Buck blinks, stunned. “I-”
“We should give your friend a show then, shouldn’t we?” Eddie asks. “I mean, at least show him that your love life isn’t completely non-existent, yeah?”
“Is this your way of trying to ask if I wanna go home with you?” Buck asks, raising his eyebrows.
“Hey, I never said I was good at this either,” Eddie retorts. “So?”
Buck huffs out a laugh, before nodding. “Yeah, yeah… that would be, yeah. Let’s go,”
“Excellent, come with me,” Eddie says, before quickly grabbing Buck’s hand, and leading the way out of the bathroom. He leads Buck across the bar, and as they’re about to leave, Buck hears a ‘Woo, go Buck!’ from somewhere, and his eyes widen in horror.
“Oh my God, hurry,” Buck says, shoving Eddie out of the building.
Eddie laughs, nearly stumbling out of his own feet. “That your friend?”
“Yes, so let’s go before he comes to find me and embarrasses me even more,” Buck says, panicked.
“Fine with me,” Eddie says, smirking, before leading the way over to his car.
Eventually, they make it to Eddie’s house. Buck is on Eddie before they’re even into the house. Buck’s kissing him roughly as he’s kicking the door shut with his feet, and then he’s leading Buck to the bedroom.
“Off,” Eddie grunts as he tugs at Buck’s shirt. He grins once Buck’s shirt is off, and then he’s pushing Buck down on the bed, climbing on top of him. “I think you’re really hot too, by the way.”
Buck grins as he looks up at Eddie. “Thanks. Can you shut up and kiss me?”
“Don’t have to tell me twice,” Eddie says, before leaning down and capturing Buck’s lips with his own.
Buck didn’t think that he’d actually meet anyone when Josh told him that they were going to a gay bar, and he thought it would be a total bust. Buck’s glad to be wrong for once.
When Buck is woken up in the morning, it’s because of a little kid shouting.
“Dad! Wake up dad!”
Eddie gasps as he sits up, and he looks over at Buck with wide eyes, who’s just now waking up, tired, and probably has a hangover from last night. “Shit. Shit, this is not good,”
“Wha’s goin’ on?” Buck asks tiredly, rubbing his eyes.
“Fuck, you’re so cute. Shit. I can’t do this right now. I can’t- you have to go,” Eddie says.
Buck blinks, and he looks up at Eddie. “Go?” He asks, and he frowns. “Go where?”
“I- I don’t know… you just can’t be here! My kid doesn’t know I have-”
“Dad!”
“I’m coming Christopher!” Eddie shouts, and he looks down at Buck with wide eyes. “I’d hate to be a dick and kick you out so early, but…” He bites his lip.
“Dude, I can’t leave, even if I wanted to. My car is still at the bar, remember?” Buck asks, slowly pushing himself up. “So, you’re just going to have to go out there and just face your kid or whatever, and take me to the bar so I can get my car, and go home. Besides, I love kids-”
Eddie sighs, and runs a hand through his hair. “Fine. Get dressed. We’ll go get your car,”
“You’re not even going to offer me breakfast? How rude,” Buck grumbles as he slides off the bed.
Eddie chuckles, before standing up from the bed as well. He pulls on a random pair of sweatpants, and then grabs the shirt he was wearing from last night. He’s definitely looked better, but he’s got no time, because Christopher is home. Eddie walks out into the kitchen, and sees Christopher sitting at the table, while Carla is with him. “Christopher, hey bud. Give me a couple minutes. I’ve gotta clean up-”
Carla looks up, and raises her eyebrows when she sees Buck walking out of Eddie’s bedroom. “Oh, you’ve got a friend with you this morning? Care to introduce us?”
Eddie hesitates, and he looks over at Buck, before looking back at Carla. “Uh, this is Buck,”
“Hi,” Buck says, waving shyly to Carla.
Eddie turns to look at Buck. “Give me a minute? I’ll be right back-”
“Dude, it’s fine. I’m in no rush. Luckily, I don’t have to work today,” Buck says.
“Thanks,” Eddie says, before rushing to the bathroom.
Buck stands there awkwardly as Carla and Christopher stare at him.
“Are you and Eddie… new?”
“What?” Buck asks, blinking. “No, we uh-” He glances at the kid, and he’s not sure what he’s allowed to say in front of the kid. He doesn’t want to cause any unnecessary drama. “We just met.”
“I can see that. I’m Carla, I help Eddie with his son. This is Christopher,” she says.
“Nice to meet you,” Buck says, and he looks at Christopher. “And you too, Christopher. Sick shirt.”
“Thanks! Do you like dinosaurs too?” Christopher asks, looking up at Buck.
Buck chuckles, and he slowly walks forward. “Do I like dinosaurs? What kind of silly question is that?”
“Christopher loves dinosaurs. His favorite movie is Jurassic Park,” Carla says, smiling, and then she looks up at Buck. “You said you have a job. Anything interesting?”
“I’m uh, I’m a firefighter,” Buck says.
Christopher gasps. “Whoa, cool! You’re a firefighter?”
Buck smiles proudly, and nods, and he bends down so that he can look at Christopher better. “Yeah, that’s right, I sure am. Are you a fan of firefighters, bud?”
“Yeah, they’re awesome! You ride on the big trucks?” Christopher asks.
“I do ride on the big trucks. Have you ever seen one before?”
“Yeah, they’re big… and… and really loud,” Christopher says, covering his ears playfully.
“They are really loud,” Buck says, chuckling.
“Okay, sorry about that,” Eddie says, walking back into the kitchen. “Carla, can you stick around for like twenty minutes? I’ve gotta take Buck back to his car.”
“That’s fine, Eddie. I won’t mind sitting with Christopher a while longer,” Carla says.
“Thanks. I’ll be right back, Christopher,” Eddie says, walking over to the little boy and bending down to press a kiss to Christopher’s forehead. “Be good for Carla.”
“I always am,” Christopher says, sticking his tongue out at Eddie.
Eddie shakes his head, before turning to look at Buck. “Ready to go?”
“Yeah, I-”
“Can Buck come over again soon?” Christopher asks.
Eddie freezes, and he looks over at Christopher. “Christopher, I don’t know, bud…”
“I wouldn’t mind,” Buck whispers, looking over at Eddie. “If it’s okay with you, then it’s okay with me.”
Eddie looks back over at Buck, and takes a deep breath, before a small smile forms on his face. “Okay,” he says. “Yeah, that’d be great, Buck. You know, Christopher never really likes my… friends.”
“I told you,” Buck says with a mischievous grin. “I love kids.”
