Work Text:
An angel and a demon were sitting on the bench in the middle of the night. They shared a bottle of wine, not knowing what to really do. Everything seemed so quiet now... they didn't like it. For the past few days they'd been busy all the time.
"Well, I think I should be going to my shop," the angel said being about to get up.
"Um, Aziraphale... Your bookshop... it... burned down..." Crowley really didn't want to say these things but he also couldn't lie to his best friend. However, the growing sadness on his face made his heart break into many little pieces.
The angel tried to stay strong but the knowledge about his bookshop... his home being taken away from him was too much. After a few seconds he felt tears falling down his cheeks as he was remembering all the days and night spent in that building. One would say that it was just a bookshop but the amount of great memories Aziraphale had with it was enough for him to get very emotional at the littlest thought about it.
Crowley, seeing his friend in such a state, smoothly moved next to him and cuddled him to his side, rubbing his shoulder gently. He didn't really know what to say or do. He'd already tried to miracle the bookshop back but the problem was that the whole building was an eternal one and it wasn't so easy to just bring it back.
The demon wasn't the most emotional one but he also had some memories with that place. The late evenings with Aziraphale mostly which he adored. The cosy feeling and warmth that overwhelmed him each time he entered it and accidentally fell asleep on the soft sofa being wrapped in a tartan blanket. It was a great place, indeed, and if he could he would go to Heaven and throw Gabriel in the Hellfire and then go straight to Hell and drown Beelzebub in a bath full of Holy Water. They were the ones responsible for all of this. They were the ones responsible of Aziraphale's sadness.
"I am so sorry, Crowley, I shouldn't have got so emotional," the angel sobbed, trying to even his breath. "I know it was nothing, just... the memories... this bookshop was my life."
"You don't have to apologize, angel, I... well I wish I could help more but... ngk... we can try to make new memories, you know, together," the demon suggested a little shy. He wasn't sure whether it was okay to say in such situation but he was hopeless now.
The angelic eyes looked up at him with a sudden hope in them. "We? You mean as... you and me?" Crowley was almost sure that he'd seen a small smile appearing on the angel's face.
"Yes." He nodded. "You can stay at my place, if you'd like. My flat is big enough to have you in it as well. And I have the plant, they'll love you. And... you'll have me," he added with a hopeful smile. "We're on our side, remember, angel. It's ineffable."
Aziraphale chuckled. "You hate this word." Crowley's body relaxed as soon as he heard that soft noise coming out of the angel's mouth.
"That's the only way to describe what I feel right now. It's ineffable."
The blond blushed and looked down embarrassed. Crowley was always the good one with words. He was, in fact, very romantic as humans would say.
As he was thinking about the offer, he felt gentle, smooth fingers moving his chin up and soon soft, thin lips connected with his in a sudden kiss. It was knew for Aziraphale, he'd never done and of those things. He'd been too afraid. But now, with Crowley, it was different. He realized that maybe, just maybe, his bookshop... his home was still in this one surprisingly good demon that was sitting right next to him.
"I've waited six thousand years to do it, angel," the demon whispered as if he was afraid somebody would hear him. "I didn't want to wait any longer."
"I'm glad you don't," Aziraphale said still embarrassed but more relaxed now.
He then held Crowley's hand and they both made their way to the demon's flat. The first chapter might have just closed but the next one was being just about to start.
