Work Text:
Not many people knew that Mr Fell had a cosy bedroom in his bookshop. What's more, it wasn't there for him. It was there for his sleeping snake that from time to time used to fall asleep on a sofa at the back of the bookshop. Aziraphale couldn't allow Crowley sleeping on such an uncomfortable piece of furniture so when one day the demon woke up in a brand new bed with tartan duvet he was shocked but also his demonic heart melted a little bit knowing that the angel cared about his comfort that much. Of course, Crowley used to complain a lot about the sofa but that's just a little detail.
Truth be told, the bed was mostly occupied by the demon. He loved sleeping, napping. It was a great way of avoiding all these annoying humans walking in and out of the bookshop. Crowley was shocked with the angel's patience when he had to deal with all these customers. That's why, the demon was most of the time alone in the bed. The only situation when he wasn't was when Aziraphale was reading a book on the bed as his demon was sleeping peacefully next to him or occasionally on him. These were very lovely nights which Crowley liked the most. The bed without Aziraphale was just too empty to have a good rest.
One day, to the demon's surprise, the angel decided to sleep with his lover. The suggestion itself was really odd since Aziraphale was always the one to say that sleeping was a waste of time and potential. Crowley could never understand that but he was very happy when he heard the angel's offer. That's why, the following day they started preparing to go to bed.
When Crowley entered the bookshop it was already dark downstairs and the only source of light came from upstairs, from the bedroom. Aziraphale had already put on his tartan pyjamas and sat on the bed, waiting for the demon to teach him step by step how to sleep.
"Tartan?" Crowley raised his eyebrows as he walked into the bedroom.
"Tartan's stylish, I've already told you, Crowley." Aziraphale frowned.
"A'ight, angel. Let's go to sleep. It's really not a big deal, you'll get it immediately," the demon said with confidence and with a snap of his fingers he changed his black suit into a pair of black boxers and a plain black undershirt.
Since he was getting cold really fast he jumped under the duvet and rubbed his feet against one another to warm them up. The smell and fabric of the duvet already made him feel sleepy but tonight he had a mission to complete.
"Come on, angel, get under this tartan monstrosity."
Aziraphale carefully put the duvet over him and rolled on his side to face the demon who had already been half asleep. Crowley's sleeping abilities were really impressive.
"And now what?" the angel asked helpless. He hardly ever just stayed in one position like this. Most of his time was spent on doing various things and switching between them so being so steady was something new for him.
"Erm, you close your eyes and wait." Turned out that teaching somebody how to sleep was tricky. For Crowley it was happening automatically, how was he supposed to explain this.
"Alright." Aziraphale rolled on his back and closed his eyes as he was told. However, he couldn't stop thinking about his day. The amount of customer, chats he had with them. It was all so exciting and successfully kept him awake.
"I think it's not working, Crowley," he whispered but realized that his companion had already been asleep. The angel couldn't force himself to wake his precious snake up but he was so helpless that it seemed to be the only way to get some help.
The demon felt gentle shaking and when he opened his eyes he was met with the angel's plump face. The prettiest face Crowley had ever seen.
"I have a problem. I can't quiet my thoughts." The demon sighed and thought for a while.
"Try counting sheep."
Aziraphale frowned and looked around. "I'm afraid there are no sheep here, dear boy."
Crowley groaned. "Imagine them, angel."
After that, the demon closed his eyes again and was ready to go back to sleep.
"One sheep, two sheep, three sheep-"
"In your head, angel."
"Oh!" Aziraphale blushed but fortunately Crowley wasn't able to hear this.
After two minutes the angel reached the sheep no. 78 but he was not getting sleepy at all. A this counting made him ever more alert and awake and caused him tossing and wiggling in the bed, trying to find the most comfortable position.
"Angel..." He heard a raspy voice on his left.
"I'm terribly sorry, Crowley. I knew it was a bad idea. I shall leave you to sleep," the angel explained himself and was ready to get up until a slim arm didn't wrap itself around his waist. "Crowley?"
"Stay," the demon said sleepily and crawled on the angel's chest putting on it some very comforting weight.
Aziraphale's cheek were bright red when he saw the demon's body casually laying on his chest. It was oddly comfortable to be so close to him. This intimacy was the best one the angel could think about. He loved how Crowley trusted him and let himself to be this close.
Their legs were tangled together as the demon was sleepily unbuttoning Aziraphale's shirt. Before the angel noticed that their bare chests were pressed against each other and it was just lovely. The demon adored every time when he could cuddle to the angel's plump tummy that always made him feel butterflies in his stomach. It felt so safe to cuddle like this. Amazing way to sleep.
Crowley felt Aziraphale's fingers brushing gently his ginger hair as the other hand was moving up and down his pale back making him have goosebumps. He let himself be lulled to sleep with this touch.
He woke up after a while when his body subconsciously realized that the hands had stopped moving. Without any rushed moves Crowley opened his eye and smiled when he finally say the angel's face fully relaxed, letting itself sleep and rest.
