Senior dances are something that you don’t wanna miss out on. It’s supposed to be one of the best nights of your life, but Mina doesn’t know if she should go or not? She doesn’t have anyone to go with so.. what’s the point? Her two best friends Momo and Sana are going together, but they’re dating and she’d rather not be a third wheel. Of course she does have other friends, but they don’t interact with each other much.
Why would she approach someone she barely even talks to just to ask to go to a dance? That’s a huge no.
“Class dismissed, please keep an eye out for your homework tonight.” her teacher says, “Have a good day.”
Mina gets up and walks out the classroom, still absorbed in thought as she makes her way down the hallway. She didn’t notice as the popular girl, Son Chaeyoung, walked next to her.
“What are you thinking so hard about?” she questioned after a few minutes of walking in silence, “I’m not even sure if you noticed me walking next to you..”
“Oh! Chaeyoung!” Mina smiled at her, “Sorry, sorry. Just worried about the dance next week.”
“Oh? What’s up? Why are you worried about it?” Chaeyoung questions.
“I have nobody to go with, thinking about staying home.” Mina explained shortly.
Chaeyoung thought for a moment, “You wouldn’t wanna miss out on something as big as this! Well.. my friend Jeongyeon is going with her girlfriend.. Nayeon, my cousin Dahyun wants to ask Tzuyu.. and my other friend Jihyo is going with Wendy.. so, I have nobody to go with either.”
“Maybe.. we could go together?” she asked hopefully.
Mina stared at her, “R-Really?”
“Yeah! It’ll be fun! And we can get to know each other!” Chaeyoung nodded, “Here’s my number, text me so we can discuss some details! I’ll see you later! Bye~!”
Mina internally squealed as she watched Chaeyoung run off in the distance to her next class. She pulled out her phone and made a new contact, setting the name as “Chae <3”.
"Over here!" Chaeyoung shouted and waved.
Mina happily greeted Chaeyoung, "Chaeyoung! Hey!"
"Minari! It's nice to see you," Chaeyoung smiled, "Oh wait, is it okay if I call you Minari?"
"Yeah! That's fine!" Mina nodded, "What store do you wanna go to first?"
"Mmm.. well.. I don't really go shopping much.. so I'm not too sure of what has the best dresses.." Chaeyoung thought for a moment, "Do you have any ideas?"
"Why don't we try this one? One of my best friends always goes there, she recommended it to me before but I never really checked it out." Mina replied.
Chaeyoung agreed, "Sounds good!"
The two entered the store and strolled around the aisles, picking out several dresses from the racks to try on. It took them around an hour before they finally went into the changing rooms to try on their outfits. While trying on their dresses, they were just tossing compliments at each other.
"I feel like that one looks amazing.. but you still have like, half the pile left.." Mina told her, "Just.. keep that one on the side, it's a huge consideration."
"Mina.." Chaeyoung started, "You've said that for every single dress I tried on."
"Oh. Whoops."
"I'm gonna be completely honest with you Mina," Chaeyoung begins, "You look absolutely stunning in every single one of them."
"CHAENG!" Mina shouted, furiously blushing at the younger girl's comment.
Chaeyoung laughs, "Am I lying? You should see yourself right now! You're so pretty."
It got to the point where they had to call their friends and ask them..
"Okay, so this is outfit number 21..." Mina twirled in the camera, "What do you think?"
"I think at this point you should pick a random number." Momo replied.
"No seriously, because why did you call two indecisive people to help you make a decision?" Sana questioned.
"You're right, I'll talk to you guys later." Mina hung up the phone, "Your friends?"
"I feel like my friends are just as bad as yours.." Chaeyoung responds, "Actually.."
"That one is way too flashy, it hurts my eyes." Tzuyu complained, "And Chaeyoung, that dress looks like you're on your way to a funeral. That's a terrible combination."
"So then, what do you suggest we do?" she asked.
"You need to find colors that compliment each other.. Mina, try on that purple dress again.. and Chae, you try on that yellow." Tzuyu instructed.
The two nodded and went back into the dressing rooms putting on the dresses, when they came out, Tzuyu nodded.
"Mm.. okay, now stand next to each other?"
"Ooo, okay, okay.. now.. hug each other?"
"Perfect. Absolutely perfect."
"Mina! Your friend is here!" her mother shouted from downstairs.
"Coming!"
Mina quickly put in her earrings and picked up her purse. She made her way down the stairs and saw Chaeyoung in the doorway.
"Lookin' good, Chae!" Mina complimented.
Chaeyoung smiled, "You too. You look absolutely stunning."
"Thanks!" Mina giggled, "Let's go?"
Chaeyoung nodded at her and the two left her home.
They were walking silently, side by side when Mina spoke.
"Thanks for coming with me today, Chae."
Chaeyoung shook her head, "No, thank you. I actually wanted to ask you for a while.."
"Oh?" Mina looked at her, "Really?"
"Yeah, you seemed like a really cool person so I wanted to get to know you better." Chaeyoung explained, "My judgement was right."
Mina giggled, "Well, thank you."
They drifted back into a comfortable silence, both having small smiles present on their faces. As the school got in view, Mina silently intertwined their hands, causing Chaeyoung's smile to widen.
"Mina?" Chaeyoung broke the silence.
Mina looked at her, "Yeah?"
"Let's dance the night away."
