the stars have aligned, and now you are mine, forever and ever

Summary:

Craig and Tweek get married, pretty much on a whim. That's it, that's the summary.

Notes:

this is the result of me doing way too much research on marriage and the legal stuff behind it. it is ridiculously easy to get married in colorado, like you don't need any witnesses or an officiant, and there's no waiting period to get the license.

i'm like 80% sure i got everything correct in this fic regarding the marriage license, but everything i learned i got from the internet so who knows.

anyways enjoy this oneshot :)

Work Text:

“Let’s get married.”

They had been lying in bed, cuddled as close as can be. Craig had one arm wrapped around Tweek, while slowly running his hand through Tweek’s messy blond hair. By now, Tweek had sworn Craig had fallen asleep as his hand had slowly stopped, and he could feel as his chest slowly rose and fell. The room felt calm. The only light came from the glow in the dark stars that had been on the ceiling ever since they moved to this apartment. It was one of the very rare times Tweek felt truly at peace.

That is, until, Craig broke the silence.

Tweek shot his head up from where it had been on his chest, looking directly into Craig’s now open eyes. “W-What?!”

It wasn’t like they hadn’t discussed getting married before. It was just they had been together all this time, ever since fourth grade. Getting married was pretty much inevitable for them, and they left it at that. They were inseparable throughout the end of elementary school to the end of high school. After graduation, they got the hell out of South Park as soon as they could, and were now living in their very own apartment off of their college campus.

Tweek did think of their future quite often, his mind wandering to all possibilities they could find themselves in. From living a happy life with just the two of them, to all of the guinea pigs they might own one day, to a fight that causes them to never see each other again. He had never felt happier than when he was with his boyfriend, and the last thing he wanted was for this to end. Honestly, he would be fine with staying boyfriends for the rest of their lives if it meant never having to lose Craig. But, he definitely wasn’t opposed to marriage either. This was just.. so out of the blue!

Craig simply gave him a soft smile. “Let’s get married,” he repeated.

“What? Why?”

“Because, I want to marry you.”

“But, we aren’t even engaged!” Tweek replied, his hands slowly beginning to shake. “And, and, we can’t just get married right away, there’s so much we’d have to do!”

“Tweek–”

“When would we do it? Where would we do it? Who would we even invite? What if they say no?? What if there’s too much to do and we don’t get it done in time and the whole wedding is ruined?? Oh God!”

“Tweek!”

Tweek finally paused as Craig placed his hands on Tweek’s face.

“Tweek, honey, I know it can feel like a lot of pressure..” Craig reassured. “But trust me on this, alright?”

He pulled Tweek in close for a quick kiss, but it only left Tweek with even more confusion as Craig got off the bed to leave the room. Tweek sat still in their bed, wondering what the hell his boyfriend was up to. Fortunately, Craig returned just a moment later, one hand behind his back. He sat back down next to Tweek, and took his hand in his, holding it tight. He revealed his hand from behind his back, and in it was a ring. Like, a ring ring. Gold in color, with stars engraved all around it.

Tweek’s eyes widened.

Holy shit.

Craig squeezed his hand, giving him a smile only Tweek was allowed to see. “Tweek, will you marry me?”

Holy shit, oh my god, this was really happening. This was really, really happening. Tweek was grinning from ear to ear. Never had he been so sure of an answer before. “Yes!”

Craig’s smile only widened. “Really?”

“Yes, asshole, it took you long enough!”

The smile on Craig’s face could not get any big as they shared a kiss. Their first kiss as fiancés.

As Craig slid the ring on Tweek’s finger, he could only think about one thing: he knew he’d never be able to stop staring at his hand. It would serve as a constant reminder that this really was for real. Craig really did want to spend the rest of his life with him. They really were going to be together, forever. Tweek was overwhelmed with the feeling of pure happiness, and couldn’t help but start to laugh.

When they shared a couple more kisses, Tweek could barely kiss back because he was laughing too much, which only caused Craig to start laughing too.

Once they were able to calm down, Craig looked at him with the most lovesick smile Tweek had ever seen (and that was saying a lot).

“I love you, honey,” Craig said.

Tweek smiled right back at him. “I love you too,”

A few minutes later, they were back in their original position before Craig mentioned the whole getting married thing. Craig was laying back on the bed, an arm wrapped around Tweek’s shoulders. Tweek’s eyes were on the ring on his finger, he still could barely believe this was really happening.

But soon, the worry returned about the actual getting marriage part. He began to twist the ring, his eyebrows furrowing.

“Craig?”

“Yeah?”

“What about the wedding? What would we even do?”

All Craig did was shrug. “We don’t have to do anything, honey,”

Tweek looked up at him. Why wouldn’t they have to do anything? It was their wedding. “What? Why not?”

“We could just get the license ourselves and get married that way. No proper wedding, just the two of us.”

It seemed their whole relationship, eyes were always on them. They even got together initially, even if it was fake, because the town wanted them to. And once they were back together for good, the eyes didn’t stop being on them. Tweek’s father even used their relationship as a way to boost business. That’s probably just the thing with being one of the only gay couples in a small town, especially in a town like South Park, but still. Besides, the stress of a whole wedding was probably a lot for just a normal couple. There were so many things that could go wrong! So, yeah, it would be nice to have a moment just to themselves for once, and leave the stress behind.

“Really? We could do that?” Tweek said.

“Babe, we don’t even need an officiant to sign. It can be just the two of us, and our guinea pigs.”

Tweek laughed. Of course, how could they get married without the most important guests?

“Okay, let’s do it.” he said with a smile. “Let’s get married.”

With a marriage license in hand, and cute tux outfits for their guinea pigs, they decided to spend a night under the stars at Craig’s favorite place to look at them before making anything official. It was like a wedding, of sorts, just without the people, and the decorations, and the extensive planning.. Tweek really wouldn’t have it any other way. Hand-in-hand, they walked up the same path they had on so many other dates. But, this time, it was for a whole different purpose.

It was a cool night, but nothing they couldn’t handle. Their clothes were not anything fancy, just simple things they had in their closet. Their guinea pigs were clearly the best dressed ones here. Craig even had on the same hat he’s had for years and years. Sure, they could’ve gotten dressed up, but neither of them really cared. It was supposed to be a night for just them, anyways. No crazy expectations, no watchful eyes, just them.

Craig never once let go of Tweek’s hand, even as he draped the blanket across the grass and they both sat down. He did eventually let go, but only to wrap his arm around Tweek’s shoulders and hold him as close as he could. Even though Craig would never admit to it (no matter how many years they’ve been dating), Tweek knew just how clingy he could get. Usually, Tweek didn’t mind it at all, he thought it was sweet just how much he cared for him. Though, sometimes, sweet could only go so far when Tweek has to leave the bed to get ready for work, and Craig will not let go of his waist. But, whatever. None of that mattered right now. He snuggled up to Craig (his soon-to-be husband!!!), resting his head on his chest, and wrapped his arms around him too.

The view above them was something Tweek has seen countless times before. Stars scattering the sky, the moon shining brightly, the mountains in the distance. Yet, somehow, it became better with each time he saw it.

“Do you remember the first time we came up here?” Craig asked, his eyes on the stars.

Tweek nodded. “What was that, the night after we moved here?”

“It almost feels like yesterday.. but I’m glad not much has changed since,” Craig replied.

“Me too,” Tweek replied, a soft smile on his face.

It returned to a quiet moment between them. Tweek’s eyes went from the sky, to their two guinea pigs that were laying in their laps, and then back over to the ring on his finger. He was right, he truly could not look away from it. Sure, he would never be able to shake the worry of it ending tragically away, but, god, did he have the hope of their marriage lasting forever.

Eventually, Craig did pull away. He took Tweek’s hands in his, and stared right into his eyes. Tweek could feel the smile on his face grow, he might as well just combust right then and there.

“Tweek, you were the last person I ever thought I’d fall in love with. But once I did, I quickly realized how much I needed you, and how I never wanted to say goodbye. No matter how many years go by, that feeling will never change. Honey, I love you so much, so much more than you’d ever know.. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you as your husband..”

They shared a short kiss, and when they pulled away, Tweek noticed some tears forming in Craig’s eyes. He put both his hands on his cheeks to better wipe them away with his thumbs.

“Oh, Craig.. there aren’t enough words to describe just how I feel, or even to say how grateful I am for sticking by me all these years.. I never dreamed I would fall in love with you, either, but, you know.. those Asian girls were right all along.”

Craig chuckled, taking Tweek’s hands off his face to hold them in his hands again. “How could we ever forget about that?”

Tweek squeezed his hands before continuing. “There’s no one else I’d want to spend the rest of my life with. I’m sorry, but you’ve stuck with me for this long, it’s going to be hard as hell to get rid of me. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you too, to have a house of our own, with all of our guinea pigs all over the place, to watch us grow old together and see your hair turn out just like your father’s.. I love you, Craig Tucker, forever and ever..”

That same lovesick smile appeared again on his beloved’s face. “You know what this means?” Craig asked, holding his hands tight.

“What?” Tweek asked.

“You may now kiss the bride.”

Tweek burst out laughing. His hands returned to Craig’s face, pulling him into a passionate kiss. Craig kissed him right back, and soon, that kiss turned into ten more.

Craig reluctantly pulled away, and said, “Okay, okay, let’s get that license signed..”

With the license in front of them, they got their two guinea pigs to stamp their little feet on the witness lines with some ink. Then, Craig and Tweek signed their own names.

Craig Tucker

Tweek Tucker

They spent the rest of the night discussing past memories, and Craig sharing his vast knowledge about the stars. Tweek had heard the spiel a million times by this point, but he would never stop listening. It was one of the things he loved about his husband (his husband!!! Holy shit!!!), and he always loved seeing the sparkle and joy in Craig’s eyes as he talked for as long as he could about the stars and space. Now, he was going to hear it for the rest of his life. Tweek couldn’t wait.

They ended their ceremony of sorts with a dance– their first dance as husbands. Their hands intertwined, Craig’s hand on Tweek’s waist, Tweek’s hand on his shoulder. They seemed to be spinning for ages. Tweek rested his head on Craig’s chest, signing in content. Craig began to softly hum a lullaby he would sing whenever Tweek had trouble sleeping (as often as that was).

This was really reality. They were really together, forever. Craig was his, forever. And Tweek couldn’t ask for a better way for his life to turn out, for he had everything he wanted, right here in his arms.

///

It wasn’t long before their marriage license was filed, and they were handed a copy of their marriage certificate. Okay, now they were actually legally married.

Only thing was, they were the only ones who knew they had gotten married. Luckily, they had planned a trip to see Craig’s family weeks before this, so what better chance to tell them the news? Tweek was nervous, not that that was a surprise. But, the Tuckers had told him countless times before that he was family, so how would a ring on his finger and a new label change anything?

Once they had arrived, they were instantly greeted by Craig’s parents, and his younger sister.

Suddenly, Craig pulled away from everyone, and held Tweek’s hand tight in his.

“I would like to introduce everyone to Tweek..” Craig said, and lifted Tweek’s hand to show off the ring. “My husband.”

“WHAT?!”

Notes:

i thought it was so cute you can have your animals "sign" as witnesses because you don't actually need witnesses, so of course i had to include the guinea pigs.

also, i don't know if you can sign the license with the name you're taking after marriage, i couldn't really get a simple straight answer on that, so i just went with something.
