Chapter Text

A long long time ago, there lived a powerful clan called the Ubuyashiki Clan.

The clan had always been blessed, acted honorably and was well respected.

But then, it all went down hill, one day, when the next heir, a weak sickly child demon had been born.

The child was born sick and pale, his own heart stopped beating multiple times while he was in mother's womb.

I t was almost as if the heavens themselves were against the existence of the child.

By some miracle however, the child survived into a vicious and ill-tempered young man.

He still had that sickly pale skin, and low strength as a constant reminder of how weak mortal he was.

The man loathed it, and wished to be cured of such wretched illness.

Then one day, after multiple attempts made by various renowned healers and doctors alike, a strange man came.

He brought with him a strange concoction, made from the essence of a rare flower, that bloomed merely for three days before wilting away.

The man was arrogant, but Muzan was truly desperate, and so, he agreed.

And of course, Muzan was cured of his previous illness, except he had contracted a new much more dangerous illness this time.

He had become a demon.

The gods, angered by this offense, cursed the Ubuyashiki family.

From that day forward, the Ubuyashiki family was never the same. They were cursed with unfortunate luck, suffering from bad health and facing hard times.

A strange curse ran in the family, he men would never see the light of day after they reached 30 years of age, and the women had to be married off young.

It was a sad day indeed.

Then, one day, a prophecy was spoken from the heavens.

It said that a child would be born from the Ubuyashiki family, born of part human and part demon.

The gods saw this as a chance for redemption and a way to balance the scales of the sin committed by the Ubuyashiki family's past.

But soon, words of the prophecy reached the Progenitor of Sin's ears.

He soon grew fearful, and tried to eliminate the Ubuyashikis, of course the cunning Ubuyashiki family always stayed a step or two before the Demon King.

And so, as the centuries rolled by, the Progenitor doubled his efforts, he recruited more vile Demons to his cause.

Multiple times the Ubuyashiki family were almost wiped out, and so, the gods decided to send help, once more.

It was a divine act; Heaven sent down two lesser Angels; a 10 year old girl and her baby brother, to rid the Earth of Demons.

Yet, the Girl knew not what to do, for she was simply a Child, all she could remember before the fall was a kind old man, with a strange flame like mark from his right side of the face.

He said something about following her gut and protecting Giyuu, and so, without even getting to say bye to her flock, she was cruely ripped away, and thrust upon the strange and dangerous world below the clouds.

Fortunately, a kind couple found her and Giyuu and adopted them, after finding the little girl and her brother wandering around the forest aimlessly.

The Couple raised the two with tender love and care, teaching them to walk, talk, and live, until only 4 years later, one fateful night, they died in their line of duty, they were doctors, searching for a cure for a virus, unfortunately, they too contacted it, and left the world.

So, left without parents, Tsukatso took on the mantle of Guardianship for Giyuu, vowing to keep him safe and secure. She fed him, bathe him, and taught the little one how to preen his wings.

She spoke of how people were scared of what they did not understand, therefore, Giyuu had to keep his wings hidden. Giyuu being the loyal child he is, never disobeyed her.

And soon, happiness came in the form of a lovely man proposing to Tsukatso. And so, preparations for her wedding was made. But their happiness would not last long.

For unfortunately, before the day of her Wedding, a Demon killed Tsukatso , killing her while Giyuu watched in terror - hidden away, safeguarded from harm in the closet.

He was blamed for it of course, as mo one believed him when he spoke of a creature that looked human, but with razor sharp teeth, and knife like claws, with a foul odour and a dead skin.

They called HIM a monster!

They then tried to send him away to a treatment facility for the mentally unwell.

The little one did not take to the news well, and so, he ran.

He took his sister's haori and ran, h e ran and never looked back.

Then, he reached Mt.Sanigiri, his second home until tragedy would strike again, in a distant future.

But for now, he was safe in his Best friend Sabito and Father Sensei's arms.

Location :- Ubuyashiki Estate #1

It was a chilly day today, the wind cold as it can be, blowing away any warmth one could feel. 

Animals were hibernating, the birds had left for warmer skies, yet one little bird was still here, chained by his ankle, bundled under thick and warm blankets.  

The children of course, were studying, for being heirs of such a respected clan was not a small matter.  

Amane-Sama was performing her daily rituals of peace and prosperity, for even the mighty winds of mighty January. 

And of course, the patriarch of the family, Ubuyashiki Kagaya himself was tending to his newest child. 

His hands were gentle and soft as he softly and silently swept some strands away from Giyuu's face. Giyuu, who was still in a deep drug induced haze, grumbled quietly and turned his head away. Kagaya crooned, before gently reaching out and turning Giyuu's head towards him, he simply wanted to look at his child more.  

"My my, i wonder what i did im past life to have received such a wonderful child" said Kagaya softly, reminiscing of how he actually got the child.  

The previous day :-

The meeting had just begun to finish, with the hashira hurrying off to their newest to their newest missions, but not before wishing Oyakata-sama well, went off. Then, Kagaya called Giyuu. 

"Giyuu, my sweet child, would you like to have some tea with me? Im afraid I have something serious to talk to you about". Giyuu, who was not suprised, simply responded with a quiet 'Of course, Oyakata-sama'.  

The 'serious talk' of course, was simply Oyakata-sama asking Giyuu, about how he had been, how his missions were going, whether he was eating properly or not, and other mundane things.

   Giyuu, as always, responded in simple one worded answers or at least a whole sentence. Giyuu always felt guilty about it, since Ubuyashiki was already sickly and weak, and he was managing a whole buisness while simultaneously handling a secret organization and a family. He was supposed to be resting, not wasting time with someone like him.  

Of course, Ubuyashiki always seemed to know when Giyuu was being 'self-depreciative' and so, resorted to talking about lighter things such as how the weather was etc. Giyuu took a sip of his tea, which filled him with warmth, he simply couldn't understand why Oyakata-sama seemed so stubborn in making Giyuu come out of his 'shell'. 

  "Giyuu, my child, you look quite tired today, are you sure you shouldn't be resting?" Asked Oyakata-sama, with concern in his voice. And suddenly, Giyuu did notice how much more tired he suddenly felt. His eyes seemed a little droopy, and his back was hunched a little.   Giyuu shook his head, "I am fine Oyakata-sama, I shall go to Kochou if something happens", Oyakata-sama nodded approving, before Giyuu suddenly experienced a sudden rush of vertigo. 

Giyuu lurched forward with a ''Hnngh-!!!", immediately, Ubuyashiki rushed to his side, his warm hands on Giyuu's back, worriedly asking him questions. "Oh dear! Are you alright my child? You said you were fine earlier!" 

Giyuu nodded weakly, his fave scrunched up in confusion, "Ugh..I think..I might need to go to Kochou Oyakata-sama..." said Giyuu tiredly, and hunched more in pain as his back, where his pair of secrets laid hidden, twitched a little.  

"Hmm", hummed Ubuyashiki sadly, before he said "Perhaps you should stop binding your wings dear Child, I think it's unhealthy". As soon as those words left Ubuyashiki's mouth, Giyuu's eyes widened in suprise and fear.     

"W-what?!?! How?!!?" Immediately, he tried to bolt, key word being tried because the drugs in the tea he had been drinking, had affected him a lot.  

As Giyuu fell down, eyes clouding in black spots, his head filled with sadness at how Kochou had betrayed him. She was his doctor, of course she had probably told Oyakata-sama how a creature was in the corps.  

He didn't register what Oyakata-sama was saying, he could only make out the words 'Kochou' and 'drugs' and Giyuu felt like a fool, for trusting Kochou.The last thing he saw was a truly monstrous smile, on Ubuyashiki's face. 

Week 1 / Day 1

Location :-Ubuyashiki Estate #1

                   (The Basement)       

Giyuu slept away the whole day.

Shinobu, his other brilliant child did not question him when he sent such an un-usual request to brew a medicationfor inducing deep sleep. He knew his brilliant and smart child had found it suspicious that he all of a sudden needed such strong doses of sleep medication but she would understand, soon enough.  

He had plans to rescue ALL his children of course, but he knew the first child he should get should be Giyuu. Since sadly, the other hashira except a few weren't too fond of Giyuu, which Kagaya would seek to rectify as soon as possible of course!  He wanted ALL his children to get allong with eachother.

But for now, Giyuu would have to be asleep in the basement, ah yes, the basement was of course, made in the western style. It was a wide and spacious area, which was well furnished with it's own restroom.

Giyuu was sleeping in a comfortable futon in the corner, with a dresser beside him. The room had only one little window at the top, which allowed ventilation and proper sunlight in.

The chances of someone discovering Giyuu was low as the basement and window were located near the private gardens of the Ubuyashiki family. No one, not even the Kakushi were allowed there.

It was perfect, but it was unfortunately only Giyuu here currently, if only the other children were also here. He knew, that not all of his beloved children were fond of Giyuu.

Giyuu wouldn't be missed too much by the other hahsira.  Kagaya knew, that with Giyuu gone, his other children would have to work twice as much in dealing with the demons.

Ah yes, the Demons.

Kagaya had forgotten about the pests ever since the sudden euphoria of gaining a new child.

Demons,of course, are selfish creatures. 

They have no regard for other's lives, and only seek to gorge their almost un-ending hunger for flesh and to quench their thirst for violence. So many people, innocent or otherwise had lost their lives to Demons and their vices. 

Ubuyashiki Kagaya however, often felt pity for them despite being one himself.

In a childhood, long ago, before he was the new Oyakata-sama, he only had anger and fear towards them, for those creatures were the ones who created the disease in his family, and when his poor poor father, killed himself, the anger turned into wrath and the fear had been extinguished. 

However, as the years passed, the wrath wilted away, and slowly, only pity remained. Demons truly were pitiful creatures, however, let it be known that the old wrath and fear he had buried within him was crawling back up, at the sight of pale marred skin, with numerous scars. 

His poor child, he lost both his parents to a plague and his noble sister to demon. 

Kagaya truly respected Tsukatso Tomioka. That brave girl was the reason that today, Kagaya was able to have another son, whether his own or not didn't matter.

Week 1 / Day 2

Location :- (The Basement)

Giyuu felt a voice in his head speaking.

The voice sounded somewhat familiar, it was like a distant memory in his life. The voice sounded a mixture of fearful and scared...for him? It had been a long while since someone had been scared for him.

Giyuu groggily woke up and tiredly rubbed at his eyes. His vision was a little blurry, so he rubbed them. After a while, his vision slowly cleared up little by little. He looked around the...room?

The room seemed to be some odd sort of basement, with only a single western style door at the front. There was a drawer beside him and a small window which allowed a little light in.

There was also a faint smell of flowers in the air.

Giyuu looked around, more dazed, and just as he attempted to sit up, he heard the clink of...chains? Giyuu heard a clink of chains near his legs as he attempted to stand up again,and looked down at his foot, and screamed because he was chained up, wait why was he chained up?!?!(GIYUU?!?)

No no no oh god the memories were coming back again- no no NO no no not this again he was not a criminal he did not kill Tsukatso it was a demon he swears it on his miserable life it was a demon not an animal PLEASE HELP- wait(AMANE THE CHAINS QUICK-)-

HIS WINGS HIS WINGS ARE ALSO CHAINED OH GOD- (Giyuu,my child whats wrong?!?)they were- they were surely going to sell him now oh god probably to a freak show or- or They would cut his wings off NO NO NO NOT HIS WINGS

Onii-san had told him not to show his wings oh god he had- he had been careful he swears it he does! He- oh god he won't let them! Onii-san used to carefully preen his feathers and downs he would not let them undo her hard work no no no these were HIS wings no no go away go away GO AWAY-(Child calm down-)

Giyuu began hyperventilating, the stress before, the drugs in his system and the sudden traumatic memory causing a panic attack. He began kicking and flailing around screaming.

Amane and Kagaya rushed to the basement, expecting the worst when they heard Giyuu scream. Was Giyuu having another nightmare? Did he hurt himself on he chains? Had he woken up? They told the children to stay put of course.

They were quite shocked when they reached the basement, ans saw Giyuu screaming bloody murder at no one, yelling something about letting him go and how he did noting wrong.

Kagaya felt his weak heart squeeze. How could someone hurt a child so much? Despicable.

Immediately Amane and Kagaya tried to calm him down, un-successfull in their task. And that was when he suddenly felt the presence of his children. Kagaya told his children telling them not to worry.

And so, half a hour later, Giyuu had fallen asleep.

The children had already been sent to their rooms, for such young minds did not need to see their elder brother crying and screaming,looking like he was being tortured. Amane looked sad but determined, Amane, the love of his life, was not one to give up. 

And so, loosening the chains a little, both he and his dear wife tucked Giyuu back into the soft and warm futon. Amane wiped the tears from Giyuu's eyes softly swept back some hair from his face.

 "How long until he gets used to us?" 

"I dont know my dear, but however long it takes, we must remain patient, and not let the other hashira know..."

Location :- Ubuyashiki Estate #1

                    (The Basement)

Giyuu was currently facing away from Ubuyashiki, the man was trying to get Giyuu eat some food. It was a simple meal of rice, soup and fish, it smelled wonderful to him and his hungry stomach but he would not give in.

He will not listen.

His hands were covering his ears, as he tried to tune out whatever Ubuyashiki was saying, and trying to make sense of whatever had happened the past few days.

He couldn't remember much, all he remembered was the meeting, the brief panic attack he had, and how betrayed he felt when he heard Ubuyashiki speak of his wings.

Tthough he did reveal that Shinobu hadn't been the one to reveal it, and that a little bribery made anonymously, had made a Kakushi member steal his medical files.

It made him feel better that Kochou was not at fault and did not betray him and was still a part of his flock.

At least Kochou was still on his side, if he could somehow manage to contact her, he could escape!

But for now, he was stuck here, against his will with Ubuyashiki.

Giyuu however, felt a little weird, not referring to Ubuyashiki by his title of Oyakata-sama and instead calling him by his last name, it oddly felt disrespectful even if it was deserved since the man had literally drugged and kidnapped him.

Again, when he woke up, and Ubuyashiki had calmly explained to him, as though he were a child throwing a tantrum, of how he would have to stay in the basement chained up like a wild animal, he had obviously not taken it well.

He tried everything he could to irritate the man, but who was he kidding? Ubuyashiki was literally the most patient man there was.

After all, he was patient when Shinazungawa had insulted him, when he had so many things to deal with, like the organization, his buisness, and his family....and...talking with Giyuu for so many years, bothering to learn his interests and trying to get him to mingle with the others.

Was it all a lie? But what would he gain from doing this? Any idea he had for what purpose Ubuyashiki wanted him for sounded somewhat ridiculous to his own ears, the most logical reason Ubuyashiki was acting like this might have been a rare type of Blood Demon Art.

Although with the amount of Wisteria around, and how well hidden the Ubuyashiki Estates were, the chance of a demon, one with a Blood Demon Art like this...even coming near the Estate was low.

It all seemed to bizarre! Like a fever dream!

And Ubuyashiki wasn't helping at all! He kept prattling on and on about how he couldn't bare to see more of his children getting hurt, or worse killed, he wanted to save his children from further and so on.

It made no sense to Giyuu.

So, Giyuu turned around to see his usually(Though with how bizzare everything was, currently) calm and passive faced Master, have a desperate look in his eyes.

He was kneeled down, with his white looking eyes filled with desperation, with a pleading look on his face.

"Ubuya- I mean, Oyakata-sama, I feel like...you are-"

Ubuyashiki, cutting off whatever Giyuu was about to say, pleaded with Giyuu to eat.

"Giyuu, my child, I know you havent eaten for 3 days, I'mbeggingyou dear child, just eat a little? I didnt mean to hurt you, i swear ill make it all right!"

"Here, ill even take a bite to prove it's not laced with anything this time!" 

Huh, what a fancy way of saying he didn't drug anything this time...

Ubuyashiki then took a bite out of his food, looked at Giyuu, expecting him to do the same.

Giyuu, felt a small voice in the back of his mind, suggesting him to listen, and to eat the food, that it was safe.

Giyuu, gave a quiet sigh and began to slowly eat.

The food had gotten a little cold by now, losing its earlier warmth, but it was still no less delicious, as he expected.

Kagaya encouraged him more, and even offered to reheat the food.

Giyuu couldn't explain it but he felt...loved in the moment.

It was not a romantic love, or the type of sibling relationship he had with Shinobu.

It was a parental love, one he used to feel when Urokodaki-Sensei comforted him when he had another nightmare about Tsukatso.

Giyuu hoped he wouldn't get used to it.

                    (Kochou Shinobu's office)

Currently, the Insect Hashira was stressed out of her mind. 

Her mind was plagued with thoughts about Giyuu, the increased workload, and about what happened to Giyuu. 

And speaking of Giyuu...

Giyuu was, of course, not a human, courtesy of the wings on his back. Pretty, though they were, it brought up a lot of questions and implications.

Shinobu in the past had often contemplated, when she first discovered his wings. Her mind was filled with questions about Giyuu's strange anatomy.

Questions had plagued her for a week when she found outabout them.

'Is Giyuu a human? Or a demon? A combo of both? Is it a new long-term blood demon art's effect? What is this Mutation? Can he fly? Are the wings hollow? What would happen if a demon ate Giyuu? Would it have similar effects of Marechi? Would the demon gain wings?' 

Such serious questions they were, but when Shinobu asked Giyuu, apparently even he had no idea about them.

And so, Shinobu found a new way to tease Giyuu.

Whenever he came for a check up, Shinobu would often ask him silly questions in a serious tone. 

For example, she would ask Giyuu If one of Giyuu's parents a bird? And if yes, was Giyuu hatched out an egg? Can Giyuu now legally be called a birdbrain? Is this a new evolutionary trait? Oh shit, can Giyuu even eat eggs? What about chicken? Or was some supernatural trickery afoot? No, impossible!'

Shinobu shook her head, musing about the past would not help her now...

And yet, it felt as though she was missing something...

Kochou Shinobu was a doctor, a reasearcher and a being whose job depends on her exploring various effects of blood demon arts. So surely you can imagine her frustration when she is not able to find a solution to her problem. 

Aside from that, it did not bode well for any of the Corp's members that a HASHIRA of all people, had disappeared without a trace, not even a speck of blood was found...

sigh

"If only I had clue on what happened...even a small one would help immensely..." she thought.

Hmm, perhaps she should take a break-

*tap tap*

Caw!

 ....

"Kanzaburou?"

*tap tap tap*

Caw! Open up! Open up!

Shinobu hurried over to the latched window and opened it, allowing the crow inside.

Giyuu's crow, Kanzabarou flew in and landed on her desk, nearly knocking over a vase.

Giyuu sent me! Caw! Important message! Giyuu is trapped!

"WHAT?"
