“ I didn't think it would end this way, there was this little part of me that thought you could stay with me, no matter what, but I guess I was never enough for you, right?.” Yelena was asking Kate while crying without being able to hold in it anymore. “Answer me Kate! You could at least do that!.”
“Every night, for the past 3 days the same nightmare, me leaving Yelena, and I know it's a nightmare, because I'll never leave her, not in this world or any other.” Kate was talking to Wanda, while drinking coffee at her and Natasha's house.
“Have you talked to Lena about it? She needs to know that you cant even sleep anymore, that you have been struggling so badly lately, and I know, trust me, I know how the Romanoff’s sisters are, but she is your person right? The one?.” Wanda asks Kate while looking her in the eye. She doesn't need the confirmation because she can see the love in both of their eyes every time they are together.
Since the moment Kate met Yelena no one could deny that there was something more than just friendship. Nathasa introduced them when Clint told her about a new apprentice. Using Clint´s words ¨This girl is way better than I was, she is THE next Hawkeye¨. At that moment none of them thought that anything was gonna happen other than just teamwork.
“She is, she is my everything. Maybe it's just that you know? I never had this kind of relationship with anyone before, she makes me want to be more. She never tells me that I can't do stuff, no matter how crazy, dumb or annoying my ideas are. She is my friend, my best friend, and I'm beyond terrified of losing her, of losing all of this.” Kate was shaking, about to start crying and Wanda noticed. That dream had become more and more frequent. Always the same thing, always the same outcome, Lena leaving her.
¨Just for right now, think about the good things that are coming, or are you having second doubts of the surprise?¨ Wanda asked her, looking more than a little excited.
¨God no! I am more than ready, I have it all ready, the music, the place, although what should have me more than freaking out is asking Melina and Alexi their blessing¨. She had this idea well printed in her mind, on how she was gonna propose to Yelena. She had pictures, notes, and had a rehearsal with a few of the team members at the compound. Something that made it more fun than romantic but they all helped and she was grateful for it.
But the part where she was gonna ask her in inlaws for her daughter was something that terrified her but everything that could happen was worth it, as long as she could call Yelena her wife.
At that moment Kate realice for the first time, she was gonna ask Yelena to marry her, yes, after all this time, and after all the good and very bad things they went through, she knew in her mind, heart and soul that all belonged to Yelena. ¨I can't wait to ask her to marry me¨ Kate said it not loud but Wanda did hear her and gave her a very big smile.
She was about to start talking about the preparations when the backyard door opened.
“Aunty Kate!.” Billy was rushing to Kate, he looked a little upset about something.
Kate turned to see him, and got down to her nes to be close to him, “Hey sweet boy, what happened?.” He was about to cry when Wanda lowered to talk to him.
“Aunty Yelena tripped me when I was about to win the race! I was running faster than Tommy and she tripped me!” While Billy was explaining what happened Tommy and Yelena came running towards us.
“Did you actually help Tommy cheat and trip my other boy?” Wanda wasn't upset, or not that upset all hoped, but Kate could see a little bit of red in the witch's hand.
“It was totally an accident, there was a stick right in front of Billy and I was trying to move it but he fell right there!” Yelena was visibly nervous, since she probably also saw the red magic.
“There was no stick! They agreed on it, and made a bet of it!” Billy who was now on the top of the counter with Kate next to him checking his leg and cleaning the tinny scratch that he had.
“That is not true! Nothing like that happen” Yelena replied but there was not an ounce of security behind her words and also Tommy was getting more nervous by the minute.
“Baby you do remember that Billy has almost the same powers as Wanda right?” Kate tried very hard not to start laughing at Yelena but she was not gonna make it.
“I might have forgotten that for a minute… Wanda look” She didn't even finish talking when Wanda already had it a few inches from the ground.
“What is going on here?!” They all turn around to see Natasha, Melina and Alexei entering the house.
“Sestra help me!” Yelena screams towards Natasha.
“Look Lena if you are up there then you must have done something” Nata was moving the suitcases inside the living room not actually looking in her direction.
“Mommy Aunty Yelena made me fall in the backyard!” That made Natasha stop what she was doing and look up to see Billy at the counter, Kate cleaning the scratch, Tommy looking so guilty and Yelena hanging from Wanda's magic.
She rushed to Billy to hug him and kiss him on the top of his head. “ You are my brave boy, pain only makes us stronger my boy” Melina heard her say those words and could help falling more proud of her daughters even the one that was still acting like a little child, but nothing could ever make her love them less.
“You brought this on your own, how could you put my two kinds against each other?” Nat was now talking to Yelena. Everyone knew that she liked to prank anyone that came her way, that's who she was. After the Red Room and not having a normal childhood Yelena had learned through Kate what are things that people her age do. Most of the time they don't actually do what young people do, but it's nice to have hobbies.
“Wanda, please look at me” Kate put herself in front of her and Yelena, making the now angry mom acknowledge her.
“Do it for me? Please? Just this time? “ Then Kate pointed to her ring finger so she could tell Wanda what she meant without using words.
Wanda looked down and noticed what Kate was doing and blinked very fast and released Yelena from her magic.
“You are so lucky Lena, and please don't use my kids anymore? Try and play with them without hurting them physically or psychologically” She was now facing Nat and giving her a side hug.
“Count your blessing sestra, cause I don't think you are getting out of another one that easy” Nat was now hugging Wanda properly. “Hello my love” She kisses Wanda sweetly. “Besides Yelena driving you crazy, how is your day going?” She couldn't stop looking at her wife, couldn't stop kissing her, hugging her because she almost lost her forever trying to bring her back. When they finally found a way to do it and she was back, she swore that she would never let her out of her sight .
“So much better now that you are back, I miss you” Wanda was looking into those beautiful eyes that drove her crazy. This woman as well as her two boys were her whole life. There was nothing on heaven or earth she wouldn't do for them. She loves them beyond words.
“God, you are so cheesy! Get a room for god sake!” Yelena screams at them.
“Come on baby that's not nice” Kate was now next to Yelena helping her get up from the floor. “You seem to have a short memory, since you just forgot where you were a few minutes ago. Please don't make Wanda angry again, because I don't think she will listen to me next time.” But Kate would do that again and again if needed to. She was certain that she was gonna spend the rest of her life with Lena. No matter if it was just to get her out of troubles with Wanda or make her as much Mac and Cheese as she wanted, she was gonna be with her forever.
“I haven't forgotten baby hawk, but I have you to help me out with them”. The way Yelena felt when she was near Kate was hard to explain for her. Feelings were never part of her training in the Red Room. But being with Kate has made her see everything differently, with more color than just red around her. She was completely in love with her and she wanted to speed every single minute with her; every day of every month of every year of her life. She decided at that moment to let Kate know exactly that, but she needed a plant to make it worth it.
“I will always help you in anything you need me, my little black widow” She leaned in and kissed Yelena, not a passionate kiss, but one that was filled with all the love she had for her.
“Now who should get a room now?. She keeps making fun of us but you don't see yourself when you are with Kate, you are a different person Lena”. Natasha and everyone at the house was looking at them.
“Alright you too, it's time to stop making fun of each other and let us finally say hi to my grandbabies and my two gorgeous daughters in law!” Melina started walking towards Wanda and Kate and they let go of their respective partners and closed the distance to the hug.
“So mom comes to town and we become after thoughts” Yelena was talking to Nat.
“I mean we still have dad, he would pay attention to us” Natahsa was sure of it.
“Where are my two boys?!” Alexie screams from the living room.
“Grandpa! Grandpa!” Billy and Tommy rush towards him passing between the sisters that were now frowning.
“Yeah, so much for having dad on our side. We have been officially replaced for a younger model” She was smiling while telling Nat that, a little loud too so the other could listen to it.
“Stop with the jealousy, come here my little girl” Melina was now stretching her arms to Yelena. “You too my big girl, I have enough arms for the both of you”. The way their life had started was not what she would have once upon a time wished for as a family, but deep down she won't change it for anything, because it led to this moment.
“Now that everyone has now hugged each other, I just want everyone to know that I’m very happy that you could make the trip to New York. We all know that is not something that you do very often, so I want to really thank you for being here”. Kate was struggling with words more than any other day. Thinking that anything can go wrong at any moment was messing with her mind, words, all of her.
Wanda started to notice Kate playing with her fingers, something that she does every time she gets anxious. She walks towards Kate and hugs her from her waist to reassure her.
“I can also thank you from Nat and our boys, we all miss you so much and we are very glad you are here to finally see our new home” Wanda was still hugging Kate and everyone continued talking.
“Honey, you need to breathe, everything is going to be alright” Kate was now facing her while Kate’s back was towards everyone else.
“I swear I'm trying my best but what if something goes wrong? With the food, with the music, or even worse, what if Lena says no!”.
“Say no to what? Did you ask me something baby hawk? I'm sorry I was with the boys. I didn't hear you” Without them, Yelena had approached them and she looked a little confused.
“No!” Kate was now almost screaming at Lena.
Wanda intervene once again to save her, “No sweaty, she was telling me that we have dinner reservations, and since you don't like to go out that much maybe you won't feel conf trouble” Wanda was trying to stay calm for the both of them, more for Kate than her own, but she did remember how she felt when Nat ask her to get married not that long ago.
“I'm sorry Yeliben, I wanted to surprise you and all of you” Kate raised her voice a little so they could hear her.
“I took the liberty to make a dinner reservation for all of us at the River Cafe. It is a very nice place next to the Broklyn bridge, is the perfect place” she was not looking straight into Yelena’s eyes trying with all her might not to pop the question right there. No, not there. Yelena deserved more, so she could wait. She will wait. But tonight is the night. Tonight she will finally ask Yelena to marry her.
